Hi,

In 2003 I decided to rent a WaterMouse boat at the Port Orleans Riverside Hotel. I read in various sites that these boats go 22 mph. The one I rented barely did 5 mph and the heat on the open water was stifling. Do they have faster ones at other resorts?

The faster ones are located at the marinas that are on the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake. Due to their speed you have to be a licensed driver to drive one.

zero to 60 in 2.8 seconds...oh, that is RR. :confused3

The speed of the water sprites are greatly affected by onboard weight. Two people will go a lot slower than one person.

Understood, but I hope this doesn't mean a boat geared to 22 mph goes 5 mph with two people...lol

According to the guy at the dock, the speed is much more a factor of the boats engine then really the weight in it. he said "well some boats are better than others". on our first outing my husband could run circles around my son and I, when we came in, a women tested the boated and said that I was right it was too slow and I should have brought it back in. On our next outing, my dh was way faster than us again so i took it back. They gave me a different boat in which my ds and I were running circles around my dh. the difference between the slow (and hot!!) ride in the 1st boat and the zippy breezy ride in the new one was night and day. I think the boats are getting old!. I probably would have complained but since the marina only managed to charge me for one of the 4 boats we rented, i figured that i came out ahead.

Hi kids,

My dbf says the new boats can get up and plane, but the older ones just putt putt putt, after the engines get clogged up over a year and a half or so.

He had to return a boat to Ft. W's dock last month, because it wouldn't plane, and the second one they gave him was better but not by much.

He said the next time, we're only renting from the Poly where they seem to get the newer boats first. I may actually call the Contemp, the Poly and the GF docks next time, and quiz them on how long they've had their current fleet in operation. If it's more than a year, they're probably all pretty much shot.

That's our theory!

One way to accellerate the speed of your boat more quickly is to sit as far forward as possible. Legs under the wheel, lean forward. If you don't achieve a comfortable speed then return to the marina and get another boat. You need to get the back of the boat up out of the water a bit to get some momentum. Once you achieve the speed you desire, you can sit back in your seat.
