watermelon ???

Im on here lurking mostly some posting so thought I would throw this out there. My 4 year old planted watermelon seeds in the flower bed...We did not know where she planted them until they started growing Needless to say it has taken over the entire front of the house and we dont have the heart to get rid of it. We have so far picked 3 large watermelon thinking they were ready...well they were all white on the inside. If we can get just one good one we can restore our flower bed....Any dis gardeners available?

Would like to help but our garden is at KROGERS or MEIJERS and my idea of a perfect lawn is concrete painted green.

Did you ever thump a watermelon at Kroger to find a good ripe one ? Do the same to your watermelons. it needs to have that real deep, hollow thump.

I'm sorry I can't help, but I would love to see a picture of your front yard overrun with watermelons.

First of all - thump it to see if it sounds hollow. Additionally, there is a smaller curly-que vine (about the size of spagetti)on the feeder vine going to the watermelon - if this curly-que is dried up, there's a good chance your watermelon is ripe. And if this is wrong - it's my husband's fault.

Thanks everyone I will try to figure out how to post a picture. It looks really bad, but when it comes to my DD 4 its amazing I am for sure going to plant a small garden next year she has been amazed at what came from her little seeds. We planted flowers also, exception I new where we planted the flower seeds. The watermelon planting was unsupervised.

Cant wait to visit the Fort in Nov.

The watermelon should break of the vine very easy when the melon is ripe
