Waterbed Mattress to Regular Mattress

My current waterbed king mattress has developed a slow leak. We are in the process of emptying it. I would like to buy a regular pillowtop mattress, but keep the same waterbed box frame.
Has anyone converted from waterbed to regular? and could you recommend a good site or vendor.

We converted our waterbed to regular mattress. Used our waterbed frame. It is a Queen size bedframe (Oak) with sides on drawer pedestal. I didn't want to give up my storage. I did have to do without the box spring cause that just made the bed WAY too tall!!! even with the low profile box spring. Ours is a Simmons. Very much like the heavenly beds at Dolphin
I love our new bed. Used to say I would never have anything but a waterbed.... NOw I will never go back!

we have been in a water bed for 26 years this month and I dont' know if I could do without it.......this is our second bladder and hubby and I love it...but wonder how old us old foggies can do with this type......please let me know how the transition is.....not that I am ready to get rid of it

We had a waterbed almost that long too. Had the traditional bladder kind first, then the waveless kind. When DD and I went to WDW a couple of years ago and stayed at the Dolphin, I told DH when the waterbed went we were getting a heavenly bed! It was the best nights sleep I had ever had!! A couple nights after I got home, waterbed sprung a leak!! So I got a heavenly bed (like).
There was no transition. I loved it from the first night. Still love it two years later. DH too. Best change we ever made!

I'm still awake. We are slowly emptying the leaking waterbed mattress. It should be done in about another hour.
I guess we go mattress shopping tomorrow.

We made the switch just a few months ago (not by choice).

DH was hanging new curtains on the bedroom windows and was standing on the back of the waterbed (window is directly behind bed)......next thing we know the base crumbles and the mattress is hanging in limbo. It was only a chipboard base and that is what gave way under his weight...

We had to empty it regardless of what we decided to do, be it get a new base built or get a new bed. With our strict water restrictions here, we decided it would be best to go for a new bed (not water). We are still getting used to it.....some nights we sleep like babies and others hardly a wink. We miss our waterbed of 21 years, but do like our new bed, just taking longer than expected to get used to.

we switched when dd was born 12 years ago....switching made my neck pain go away.......we lived in Indy when we first got our water bed, we were loading it into the truck another couple had bought a bed too and the lady says"does it come with water in it?" we laughed all the way home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We switched from a water bed to a Select Comfort air bed. It feels very much like the waterbed (but minus the waves and the chance of a leak). That was about 8 years ago after having a water bed for, like 17 years. No transition. It was comfortable the first night.
My BIL and SIL made the switch from a waterbed to a mattress with a box spring. They practically needed a ladder to get into the bed. The mattress people (air or otherwise) will try to talk you into the need for a box spring. Cover your ears and don't listen to that part.

This is SO true. My salesperson told me the warranty would be voided if we didn't use the box spring (it is in the spare room ).

About a year ago we bought a mattress for our California King waterbed frame (no box spring!). We are extremely happy with it (well, sheets can be hard to locate). We, too, did not want to waste the storage drawers the frame had. Interesting to see how many of us did this!

I still miss sleeping on a waterbed and it's been ~ 10 years . Sleeping on it started bothering DH's back (getting old is hard ) so we first switched to a Select Comfort bed and HATED it - way too hard for us. Ended up with a pillowtop bed and have been relatively happy sleeping on it since. The hardest thing for me is getting in a cold bed at night, but we have big dogs who occasionally jump on the bed so an electric blanket or mattress pad isn't practical.... Did I say how much I miss the waterbed?!
