I'm guessing, but want to double check, that a ride on the water taxis is calm. If someone usually gets sea sick, is it better to walk or would the taxi be ok? I'm guessing they are like the friendship boats at WDW? Is it faster to walk or take the boats?

We found the boats to be faster. It's very calm, you would have to be able to get seasick in a bathtub to get seasick on one of the boats.

The only time I felt "out of sync" was the 3 seconds on the dock at City Walk. The people loading all at once made the dock move an inch or so. That feeling literally lasted only a split second though and once I was on the boat I was fine!

A car moves more than the water taxi.

Lol........that's true..........

We always find it quicker to walk to the parks. If we are going to the Studios and there is a boat there we sometimes get it but usually we beat it there anyway.

If you are going to IOA it is Definetely quicker to walk. For us it is anyway.

How's the wait? Are you often waiting and gave to wait for another boat to arrive because it's full?

We do wait 10-15 minutes once when coming back from the parks.......and we only had to wait a few minutes once for a second boat from RP to parks when one was full. It was early evening though and everyone was heading to citywalk.

They are very regular though. The walk is so pretty so don't miss it :thumbsup2

I have vertigo and get motion sick and seasick, and I have never had issue with the water taxis

They seem to have 2 boats running a lot, even last weekend. So, the wait would only be 10 minutes or so. So, it didn't take any more time, and save a LOT of steps, from the Studios. From IOA, by the time you walk to the dock, and then walk from the RPR dock to your room, it probably doesn't save a lot of walking.

We seemed to just miss the damn thing every time, but did run to get on one the last day, and they did wait. Even with two boats running, they were always full.

It depends on your hotel. PBH is a bit of a walk, so we usually take the boat. It's very calm and we think it's relaxing. HRH you can basically crawl to the park and the walk from RPR is pretty short.

Yeah, PBH is well beyond my "walking distance". And others' too, since it was the only one that always had a more than one boat line waiting for it. I'd hope they run more than 2 to there, especially since it's the premium hotel.

I am not sure how many water taxis that there are, but it seems like there might be only two. I was staying at Portofino Bay for a conference in late September, and only went to the parks area one day. When I was returning to the resorts, I just missed one of the boats, as in almost first in line for the next boat. When that boat left, I noticed that there was still a crowd of people on the dock, including security type people and several employees. When the next boat arrived, only some of the people in the crowd on the dock were allowed to board. We were allowed on the third boat; when we got to the Portofino Bay Resort, the boat with the couple of people from the group on the dock were still at the dock at Portofino Bay, waiting for wheelchair assistance. So, we had to wait to disembark.

I was at Portofino Bay for a medical conference and will speak as a physician observing what I presume was the response to some type of medical emergency. I am surprised that the crowd on the dock didn't summon some type of paramedical/medical assistance for the injured/ill guest. I presume that the person thought that they could take care of themself. But I only saw the two boats on the route.

All three are deluxe hotels. They run in the busy times 2 boats per hotel for a total of 6 at a time. If it slows during the day sometimes will go down to 1 per hotel. In very busy times once in a blue moon will you see an extra boat for 3.

They also have the shuttle busses too.

The shuttle busses are only for the new hotel, aren't they? Or does PBH have them? The bus drop-off is so far away, it would hardly make sense if you were staying at HRH or RPR. Heck, I'd guess US is farther from the bus stop than HRH.

There is a shuttle bus for the three deluxe hotels also. It makes a round trip to all three and CW parking garage. If there is bad weather the boats stop. Then you have 3 options.

Walk
Rickshaw
Shuttle bus

Wow, they sure don't make the bus known. I never heard anything about it, or saw it, in 3 stays at HRH and RPR combined.

Lol, we have 10+ stays in the past year.

It's not really used that much. When it becomes inclement weather than the boat captains will tell you about it. Here is a map I found online.

I definitely agree that the stop at citywalk makes it ridiculous. The stop used to be over near hrh. Then it moved.

The written info given and/or in the room mentions them. Noticed that after the day after finding out about them an hour after I could have used the info.

Captains aren't always there when weather happens. When weather happens (and we are talking about lightning inside of something like 3 miles) the captains might be elsewhere.

When I found out about shuttles there was a whole group waiting and waiting under the boat shelter. After ages a tm came by and yelled at us for being there with lighting around. (Because it's the responsibility of guests to know what things are made of!) told us all to move elsewhere. We wet to a store and froze in the ac as it rained and rained. Rain stopped, we went back out to check. Tm came by again and finally told us about the shuttle. Soaking wet and freezing, we walked there. That's when it was on the hrh of citywalk though. Now we would just walk to the hotel.

Yep, old drop off used to be by US in the circle.

If the captains are not there there normally is sandwich boards up explaining the weather and shuttle busses. Normally when it's going to be a crappy day they are out all day long.
