Are you allowed to wear water shoes on the slides at the Disney waterparks?

Last year we stayed at the Beach Club and when I went on the slide I had to take off my water shoes. I had to hold them in my lap. I'd never heard of such a thing before.

I think you need to take them off. I've never been to a water park that will let you wear water shoes on the slides.

One thing to note: at the water parks, your shoes will be completely full of sand in about 90 seconds. I prefer to just go barefoot, but if you really want to wear some kind of shoe, I recommend flip flops.

Yes, you have to take them off. That's true at pretty much every water park I've been to.

I am very much a barefoot person too, I could never wear water shoes. But note that the pavement does get hot in spots, so be ready to run or tip toe quickly at times.

I've used water shoes before just because the concrete gets very hot and can be rough on the feet. You do have to take the shoes off ond put them on your hands to go on the slides.

You actually can wear them on a slide that you use a tube on, but I'd advise against it. The reason you can't wear them is because they will grip the slide surface, slowing you down. My experience was on one of the tube slides, I turned a little and my water shoe hit the wall and caught, which made me spin more but also jammed my leg pretty good. I wasn't injured or anything but it was a little sore for a while. I do recommend bringing something like water shoes for walking, but hold them in close for a ride.

I don’t ride body slides so didn’t ride any of those but I was able to wear my Tevas on every slide i went on. At my home water parks you aren’t aloud to tho.

I have never heard of not being allowed to wear shoes on water slides! One of the largest water parks (Water World) in the US is located in my state. I haven’t been there in a couple of years, but as of my last trip there, water shoes were allowed on the slides. I didn’t do any of the really tall, scary-looking slides, but on the tamer ones, at least, it was allowed. My DD and I have worn water shoes on the lava slide at the Poly. The lifeguards didn’t say anything to us (but there wasn’t one at the top of the slide). What are people supposed to do about not burning the bottoms of their feet on hot pavement, especially waiting in line, if water shoes aren’t allowed?

They are allowed, you just can't wear them on your feet when going down a body slide. Tube slides are okay, but as I mentioned above, I had an issue with that. If you were to wear the shoes on a high-speed body slide and the rubber sole were to contact the fiberglass surface, it would act like a brake, which would reduce your speed and possibly make you spin or tumble. I'm sure not all water shoes are the same, but mine sure gripped the surface pretty good! All you have to do is take them off, and put them on your hands, and cross your arms over your chest, which is how you should ride the fast slides anyway.

Either take them off and hold them or leave them at the bottom of the slide.

That is a good option as well. People leave them at the bottom. I had a lifeguard tell me I could leave them at the top, but I was like, "How would I get them back?" She said I'd have to come back up, but if I climb the stairs again, I'm going down the slide. I dunno. Sometimes you'll see some water shoes come down on their own, but then someone is trying to fish them out of the pool and holding everybody up. It's not really that hard to just hold them.

That's common practice on waterslides. The Disney waterparks (& most other waterparks) will also require you to remove your water shoes on water slides & hold them. On raft/innertube rides, you can leave them on.

This is a requirement at Sea World's Aquatica, at Schlitterbahn water parks, at Castaway Cay's Pelican Plunge, and also at small local water parks in our area (Texas). I've never heard of being allowed to keep them on while sliding down a bodyslide. As a PP said, it could be dangerous. Imagine tumbling down Summit Plummet.

Yep, it would be very dangerous on a body slide. I can easily see tearing up a knee or hip.

Many (not all) of the lines for the slides actually have water sprayed on them by sprinklers, so it keeps the pavement cool. Where it can get hot most is in the unshaded walkways between slides.

I tend not to do most body slides because I must wear water shoes and they don't allow them anywhere I've been including Six Flags Hurricane Harbor in NJ. I'm diabetic and need to protect my feet at all times, so it's wear the shoes and choose your rides carefully.

I guess I should have read the whole thread! I’ve never tried wearing my shoes on the tall body slides (because I’ve never tried those slides) but what you’re saying makes sense. If I’m ever brave enough for it, I’ll keep this in mind!
