My DS and I plan on finally getting to a water park (or both of them) this August. I usually get water shoes for him every summer and I got myself a pair in preparation for our trip. Someone on another thread mentioned water socks and, since I never heard of them, I googled it.

So - my question - are water shoes ok to use at the water parks? Will we be able to go down the slides/tubes wearing them or will I need to get water socks?

I used dollar-store Croc's and had no problems riding anything, but this was a few years ago. I would think water shoes would be perfectly acceptable.

Yeah, I agree, never had problems riding wearing water shoes, but I think you have to remove them on any verticaldrop rides.....I'm too much of a wuss to ride those anyway! Never really fancied having water jetted up my nose and other places!

Thank you both for the reassurance.

And Matt - I'm a wuss, too. No Summit Plummit for me. I like my bathing suit to remain on the outside of my body! :thumbsup2

My dh and I were having this discussion just Saturday!
I have found that I like cheap rubber flip flops. The water shoes are to confining and hot.
Dh likes the water shoes.
Do not walk around the water parks in your bare feet! Typhoon Lagoon has lots of prickly wood , Blizzard Beach will have hot cement and lots of walking!
Good luck!

That's exactly why I got water shoes. :) We went to a local water park a few years ago and, without any shoes on, our feet were burning (we didn't do that too long, let me tell you!) when we tried walking from ride to ride. But we weren't allowed to wear the water shoes onto the rides there and it was quite a walk from the shoe cubbies to the line entrance. :confused3 I wasn't thrilled with the layout of the place. I'm glad to hear that we can wear the shoes onto the rides at Disney!

Lol, yeah, not a great look for anyone that ;)
Itswdw4me is right, the concrete burns!!! Dunno about cooking an egg, I'd bet you could do a steak!

I'm glad to see this. I wore my crocs in the ocean for the first time recently and found that they work much better than water shoes. I'd love to be able to wear them at the WPs.

Just a caution about water socks, (they look weird IMO) but they are actually quite thin. That ground gets pretty hot in the sun and I am not sure that they would save your feet if you stood in a line for any length of time. Crocs or similar shoes work well for us. I just slip my wrists into them if I have to take them with on anything and then I can put them back on later.

But you do need something. I thought I could hot foot it over to get a soda without my shoes. Luckily I had a towel around my waist. I ended up having to shuffle on the towel on the ground to get back to my shoes. Agony!

Question for those who have done the water socks - do they have protection so you don't get scraped up on the bottoms, like at TL? My brother can't walk but we put water shoes on him when we sit in the waves on the TL bottom so his heels won't get scraped. His feet are quite twisted and the shoes are hard to fit on, but socks would be great! Just wondering if they might be too thin for this purpose? TIA!
