Last night was a beautiful night, the air was off and we had a fan on to bring in the cool night air. I woke up at 4:30 to use the facilities. When I went into the bathroom I thought I could smell paint fumes. That was weird and I thought I heard the dishwasher running. I have 4 hour delay so the dishwasher usually runs when we are asleep but this just sounded strange. I went downstairs and I could hear water running. I did what any person in my position would do, I woke up my DH! He went to the basement and found a pipe burst and HOT water running out of the ceiling and onto the floor of the basement. The paint fumes were from a paint brush sitting in paint thinner that was sitting next to the utility sink. After my DH shut off the hot water! We found that a little pipe that hooks up my ice maker had burst, he shut that valve off and we went back to bed.
I don't think that the water had run for very long, there is not much water in the basement, I had laundry sitting on the floor next to the utility sink and it wasn't even wet.
I can't believe that I woke up, something must have told me something was wrong. Thankfully we were home and not away, I can only imagine what could have happened. We are going on vacation in a week, I will be sure to shut off the water before we go.
