My youngest DS4 is wc bound due to CP. We are planning to be at WDW in June and are thinking that we might try a water park. He loves to get in water and play (bath or pool he doesnt discriminate;) ) I was wondering if I am crazy in even thinking of trying this or if anyone can tell me how accessible they are. We can move him into the pools with ease. He only weighs in a 27 lbs. I wont try any rides with him and will have an extra adult other than DH and me so we can trade off so that we can both do rides with DS7. Any info will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Both water parks have special areas with children's slides and a "lazy river" as well as the bigger and family slides.

Water Wings and Life Vests are permitted, including swim suits with built-in floatation. Life vest may be borrowed from various locations. With one exception, no other floatation devices are permitted. For an infant or very smalll toddler you can have a float ring which has a bottom accross the center with leg holes so the child can sit upright; thisa is allowed in the lazy river only.

I just wanted to say hi! We are about to do the same thing!

My daughter is 4, with Escobar Syndrome. She is also in a wheelchair. We are going to Typhoon Lagoon the first week of June. We will be taking her power wheelchair and just taking her out to go to the pools and play areas. She is 26 lbs. Oh and I also havea 7 yr old :).

I do have a ? about the lazy river? Do the smaller children have to ride in the infant toddler ring seat? Will she be permitted to ride with me? She will have a fit riding in a "baby" ring.... so if this is required I need to do some serious prep work. Momma wants to go in the lazy river! :)

Thanks!

when my son was 4 we took him to typhoon lagoon and he was ok in a tubre on the lazy river. we put his bottom into the hole in the tube with his legs and head dangling over the tube. he was comfortable and we were able to have our own tubes, held on to his to stop him drifting off :)
(he's w/c bound due to cp)
we also took him on the family raft ride, just had to carry him to the Q.:)

Other than the special child tubes I described above, the only tubes Disney will allow in any of the water in the parks are the ones they provide.

I think the main reason is the same as why we do not allow balloons in the water parks. They know the strength of the Disney tubes. If a person uses a "flimsy" tube and it breaks and sinks it can cause a filter to get blocked and possibly damage (seriously) pumps. If it is a special infant tube it is expected that a parent (or other responsible individual) will be within an arms length.

My son also has cp but is now 8.. but his first trip to Disney was when he was 4 and we did Blizzard Beach. He is in a wheelchair/convaid stroller but can walk with assistance. at the time when he was 4 at Blizzard Beach he spent most of the time in the sand and in the wave pool under the waterfall.. .. he loved it. we didnt get water tickets the last 2 times we have gone.. he was 5 and 6 but are getting them this year.. we are hoping to go downt he family water raft with him... and the lazy river.. Good Luck!!!!

Thaks to everyone. Sounds like it wont be a wasted day after all.
To mykidsintow: May name is also Beth;)

Oh yeah one more ? Is there a safe place to park the WC. Not that anyone would want to steal it. Or will we need to take it with us all day?

I have never heard of a personal wheelchair being stolen at WDW.

What you may want to do, as a precaution, is bring a lock that will clamp over a wheel or a cable to lock a wheel to the frame. Either of these precautions (also can be done with a stroller) will prevent someone from taking off with it but will not prevent a CM from straightening up an area. The one thing you are not permitted to do is lock the wheelchair or stroller to anything such as a tree, fence, lamppost or signpost. If you do, the lock and/or cable will be cut.

The wave pool is zero-depth entry, and if you can transfer easily, it's very fun to sit in the shallow end (at least I thought so!). Also, the lazy river had double tubes when we were there, that two people can sit in. You might be able to prop your young one in the front of the tube and then sit in the back. If you're worried about them tipping over, you could sit them in the front and then just put your head and arms through the hole and support your child with your arms (so your legs are floating behind you). That keeps you (and your passenger) from flipping the tube over. Anyway, DD and I had tons of fun! Good luck.
