We hope to do TL and maybe also BB in Sept. I have 2 daughters-- a very tall for her age 10 yr old and a normal sized 6 yr. old. I am taking them by myself so we will have to stay together the entire time. I WILL NOT allow dd10 to go off by herself--Please don't even suggest it (and no flames--you parent your way and I will parent mine! :goodvibes )

The 6 yr old is really not much into the slides and stuff, I will have to divide our time between stuff each can enjoy. I see the info for the "kiddie" areas say they are for kids 48 inches and under (with parents though). Will my over 48in daughter be allowed to be around as long as she is near me? She won't be running wild, splashing and bothering the little ones. I know she can't do things like the little slides and such, but can she be in the water and wading around and playing with her sister in these areas????

If they CM's are going to make her leave, or sit on the side then there is really no reason for us to even go to the water parks. I won't make her sit off to the side while her sister plays--we may as well stay at the hotel pool.

Hi lovetoscrap. I think you'll find that the kiddie areas at Typhoon Lagoon (Ketchakiddee Creek) and Blizzard Beach (Tike's Peak) are too young, even for your younger DD. Our daughter showed absolutely no interest in them when she was 4; they're really aimed at toddlers and preschoolers.

Probably your best bet is to head to the Ski Patrol Training Camp area of Blizzard Beach, which is aimed at kids between about 5 and 12. Both dds should be happy there for a while. The family raft ride (Teamboat Springs), lazy river ride (Cross Country Creek) and wave pool (Melt Away Bay) will probably appeal to both of them, too. If you're looking for a slide to try together, Runoff Rapids allows two people to share a tube, so your older DD could go alone on the tube in front of you, and you could follow on a tube with your younger DD.

There isn't any place like the Ski Patrol Training Camp at Typhoon Lagoon, so I really think Blizzard Beach is better for kids in this age range. We love Blizzard Beach so much that we extended our December/January trip by 2 days to be there for its re-opening in January. However, Typhoon Lagoon is still a great water park, and also has a family raft ride (much shorter), lazy river ride, and wave pool (much larger). Typhoon Lagoon's Shark Reef is also appealing to lots of kids.

My two are now dd 10 and ds 13, and no arguments here - my 10yo won't be on her own at a water park either.

Hope you have a terrific time!

I had the same concern last Sept. My dd's were 5 and the smaller one was barely 44". Ds was 12 and over 5'. He was able to do anything he wanted in the Ski Patrol area, never told he was to big for anything. He chose not to try the smaller slides, but he was fine with the zip line thing and playing in the water with the "ice bergs". He was not the biggest kid in there, not even close to being the biggest. I did allow him to go off on his own a bit, but I wouldn't have if he was only 10.
My dd's agree with CindyAnn, they hated the kids area at TL. They said it was for babies. They also refused to do the shark tank swim. All they heard was the word "sharks" and they refused to get in the water! Ds did it and had to be dragged out of the tank. The girls insisted on watching their brother in the tank, wouldn't budge until he was out. I think they were hoping he'd be somebody's dinner!

I agree with the previous posters!! My DD's loved TL at 7 and 9 but they both liked all the slides and the shark swim. The kiddie areas seemed to be for very very small kids. We did BB last year when the girls were 9 and 11 and they LOVED it. The ski patrol area should please both and the family raft is really fun. Both DD's like tube rides over body slides and they had a blast! And, no, I would never suggest you let your 10-yr-old go off on her own...my 12-year-old doesn't even do that in situations such as that!! :)

We went last year with our then ds4 and dd9. He loved TL kid area and had a ball. DD liked it too, but couldn't do much. She had fun with DH in the wave pool.

This August we are going to go to BB and hit the Ski Patrol, I think both my 5 & 10 year old will like that more then TL.

Have fun!!
