Water Parks for a Non-Swimmer?

DBF and I are going to WDW next month, complete with the park hopper that will let us go to Disney Quest, Pleasure Island, Wide World of Sports, and unfortunately, the water parks. DBF cannot wait to go to Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. I, on the other hand, am less than thrilled. It's DBF's big birthday trip, though, so I want to please him - is it possible for a non-swimmer to enjoy the water parks? Keep in mind, I am a bit afraid of the water and have a few minor near-drowning experiences. What could I try out at the water parks that I won't be absolutely frightened by? Slides are pretty much out of the question, as I never have liked regular slides, let alone water slides. Teamboat springs at Blizzard Beach does not seem to bad, any thoughts?

TIA! pirate:

At TL you could do the lazy river, you can just ride an inner tube around or walk around if you can't get a tube. Otherwise most of it is slides and I think it is that way at BB as well.

I think you'd still have lots of opportunity for fun.

The "lazy river" rides in both parks are about 4 feet deep, so unless you're a VERY short adult, you should have no problems there.

The wave pools are both zero entry. You can just sit down around the 8 inch mark and enjoy the waves (kind of like at a beach :) ). And if the slide issue is a fear of the water, many of the slides end up in just inches of water, not over your head. If it's the feeling of actually sliding, I would encourage you to skip them.

Typhoon Lagoon also has several very nice beach areas if you are a sun worshipper.

Think of the water park day as a beach day with a little added plus (lazy river rides).

Now me personally? I'm not a beach person. If I didn't like the slides, the water parks would do NOTHING for me. Thankfully, I like the slides, so they're fun for me.

I can keep myself afloat but I am definitely not a 'swimmer'. I LOVE Blizzard Beach. I have never done any of the slides except Teamboat Springs. I can spend hours on a tube in Cross Country Creek and the wave pool is a better place for non swimmers than the pool at Typhoon Lagoon. My son, who is a real wimp when it comes to many rides in the parks, loves BB as well. This year I intend to try some of the other tube slides.

As the others have said, you can do most of the things at the waterparks. Even the slides that don't end in inches of water, only end in about three feet of water.

Would anyone know if either of Disney's water parks are closed in October 2007? Yes 2007! We are planning a trip there already ... almost an entire year away. We are so excited.

BB is closed this year from Oct 29 through January 6. TL will be closed from January 7 through March 10, This year the closings will be for nine weeks each, last year the closings were for eight weeks each.

For next year I don't know, but each park will be closed for about the same length of time, with the first closing on either October 28 or November 4th.
