Are we crazy to even think about going to one of the water parks during the 2nd week of August? We will be there 8/7-12. Just dh and I. Or are the water parks going to be so crowded that we won't enjoy ourselves?

Thanks!

Hi,

Just get there when it opens. If you like the slides do them early beore the lines get unbearable.

We usually go at opening and stay until after lunch. But the slides will have VERY long lines after about 10 or so, and there are no Fastpasses!

I agree we go early do the big slides and then wave pool after 11. We laeve around 1 and have no problems.

You know I've been on these boards every day and I've been trying to gauge how busy that week will be. We're going Aug. 5-12, and I don't see a lot of people going at that time. I have a feeling that people that were planning that week or the week before have opted to push it back to take advantage of free dining. Or at least it seems that way to me. Now there may be a lot of locals taking advantage of park time but I'm not so sure.

Here's hoping for lighter than usual crowds for that time. :wizard:

Thanks for all of the advice. I guess that we will just have to play it by ear.

I too am finding the same thing! I hope that this is not giving us a false sense of hope. Wouldn't it be nice though!?!?!?!?!

We were there during that time period in August 04 and went to Blizzard Beach one morning. It was great for the first hour, but crowds quickly swelled. Park reached gridlock by 11 a.m. and we beat it out of there.

My advice: If you're going to a water park, get there at opening and get in as much as you can because the "fun factor" decreases substantially as the day goes on. They need FASTPASS for Summit Plummet. :teeth:

BTW, we'll be there during that time period, too. :cool1: We're skipping the water parks this time, but hope you have a great time!

 I just wanted to say "hi" to everyone on this thread because we will be in WDW 8/6-8/12! We won't bother you at the water parks. We didn't get the "pluses" on our tickets. It's just DH and I for our 20th wedding anniversary and we booked GF figuring we'd spend more time than usual in the room and pool :rolleyes1

I too am hoping that the free dining the following week changed a lot of people's plans but it was too difficult to change my vacation week and airfare. And we really want to spend our anniversary there anyway so we're forking over the dough to pay for dining. I still think it's a good deal for us!

Have a great time everyone! See you there in 19 days!!! :yay:

Hey, great point! We'll be in the World Aug 4-13, and I felt bad because I found out about the free dining AFTER I booked our trip (and we couldn't change the dates because of my stupid work).

Yay, here's to hoping there will be fewer people! Even a little! :goodvibes :woohoo:

Which reminds me, we have a day at the water parks planned...need to have DD pick which one...:earsgirl:

For what it's worth, the local schools start back August 7th so that'll be just that many locals to not have to worry about!

And we'll be there from August 4 - 12, there seem to be a few of us beating out the free dining onslaught. We're also celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary on the 9th, vsimeone. Congratulations!

We're there that week as well and plan on going to TL on TH. I intend to go during morning EMH and hopefully try to beat some of the crowds. We have dinner ADRs for Boma that night so will be out of the park early afternoon at the latest.

Hopefully you guys are on to something and crowds will not be too bad. We couldn't go for free dining because of band camp.

Hey Madge! The 9th is our anniversary as well! Where will you be that day? We're dining at V&A's that night. I can't wait!

Happy Anniversary to you too!

Have a WONDERFUL trip!

Wow, I wasn't aware that schools in the local area start back that soon. That's great. I'm not sure about the crowds, but in reading these boards, I noticed some people having a hard time getting dining at places like HDDR during free dining. We are bringing my son's girlfriend on this trip and he wanted to take here there for dinner, I called over the weekend and he had a choice of times, so maybe it won't be so bad. BTW, I also had no problem getting all my dining at places like LeCellier, California Grill, Raglan Rd., etc. and we have a fairly large party. :Pinkbounc

The 9th is our anniversary, too! Our 9th, actually. We're going to Boma.

We actually did the opposite....instead of going first thing in the morning, we went around 2:00. It seems like the crowds had thinned out a little, and by closing there weren't that many people there. However, it was our first time there so I don't have anything to compare it to. Have fun! I wish I was going back!

We are going Aug 10-23 and I am hoping the crowds lighten due to back to school time down there. One positive sign is my kids just decided this weekend that they wanted to go to the spirit of Aloha dinner show. So I phoned expecting no time available. We got our first request of Sat Aug 12 @ 5:15. Hopefully this means crowds aren't bad ( and the show is better than some of the reviews I've read. But it's the kids choice!)
