I'm staying at the Polynesian for the 1st time in 13 days (whoohoo :cool1: ) Anyways, I was thinking my bf and I would probably have fun renting a water mouse or two. How far can you actually go in these? Just in the Seven Seas Lagoon or can you take it over to Bay Lake? Can you see the Wilderness Lodge, or anything else of interest the water? I was thinking we could get some nice photos of the resorts from the water. How long do you like to rent them for 30 mins/45 mins/an hour? Does 30 minutes seem too short? Thanks!! -Stephanie

You are free to go all over Seven Seas Lagoon as well as Bay Lake. You can not get too close to the MK or to the docks for the resort boats. It is lots of fun.

How long is such a personal thing...can't help you there.

Have a great stay at the Polynesian! :boat: :boat:

We rented from Fort Wilderness and started out in Bay Lake but came and went from there to Seven Seas Lagoon, so I see no reason why you couldn't do just the opposite. You basically pay when you get back, so you're charged for how long you were gone. Just go play until you're done - then come back. We stayed out for 45 minutes.

My sister and I just did this a few weeks ago from the Polynesian marina. We had a great time! Yes, you can go all over Seven Seas Lagoon and cross the man made "bridge" over to Bay Lake.

When you are on the monorail, near the Contemporary, you can see this water bridge that has a road going underneath it. However, I was disappointed that when we crossed on this water bridge in the Sea Raycers, you can't tell you are going over anything and that there is a road underneath you. You have to really slow down in this "no wake" area.

The old Discovery Island is over on Bay Lake and you go right by the Contemporary. You can also see the Wilderness Lodge but aren't suppose to go in too close unless heading for their marina.

You have to be careful to watch out for all the other Sea Raycers, the smaller water launches that take resort guests from MK, GF, Poly and back. Also, the larger ferries that run between the TTC and the MK. There may also be larger pleasure boats that guests have rented. And of course, the marina patrol boats that go FAST! It's alot to look out for so you have to be careful.

For those reasons we found Seven Seas Lagoon to be busier with water traffic than Bay Lake. But not unworkable.

You also have to go slowly around the other boats and keep your distance. And there are areas near each resort and the MK that you aren't allowed into unless you are docking at a resort marina.

I'm sure some wild drivers would like to skip across the wake left by other boats but you really aren't suppose to take big chances this way. If you drive in a manner they've instructed you not to, they will make you get off the lakes and take away any future watercraft privileges. You can tip these boats. They said it happens all the time but usually because someone was intentionally driving crazy.

We found it a bit frightening to hit some of the larger wakes head on, you could most definitely tip your boat if you don't 1) slow down and 2) turn into the direction of the wake rather than trying to cross the waves head on.

I found you can really go full speed better over in areas of Bay Lake. That was FUN!

We stayed out 45 minutes and felt that was a good amount of time. I might have stayed out for an hour but my sister wanted to come in. After awhile, there is nowhere else to go - I kind of wish you could go into even more lakes and further afield.

People on these boards have said it is faster with only one person and that may be so. However, we found it to be fine with two. They instruct that if you are in two boats, you aren't suppose to stop or slow down close to each other to talk. Although I did see a man and his son in two boats doing this.

We liked being in the same boat to talk to each other.

I would highly recommend this activity. It was a blast!

My son rented one while we were at POR and he was able to go almost anywhere but not near the major downtown disney water area-which was fine with me-he had a blast and felt so grown up- he was about 14 then

We do the length of stay rental. We would go out everyday and there was no time limit. Great break when the parks are packed. Seven Sea/Bay have the fast mouse's and the most area to boat. Epcot resort is a small lake and the mouse's are very slow. :earseek: :moped: :rockband:

I'm a big fan of Water Sprites / Water Mice / Sea Raycers. But one thing I noticed on my last visit, that I had never noticed before - before going out on the water, you sign a release form, agreeing to be a good boy. One thing explicitly mentioned on this form is no photography. The CMs said it was because they don't want the boats to stop on the lake. They want you to keep moving all the time. And they don't want to deal with cameras being dropped in the water.

I guess I'm a law breaker. We had 3 boats for the 4 of us and I took my camera and took many pictures of the group, WL, CR, GF Poly, MK and they were great pictures. I had my camera case in plain sight when we were getting in the boats and CM's never said a word.

Yes, I didn't like the "no photos" requirement but we obeyed. We did ask the CM at the marina to take a photo of us in the boat - of course, it was when we docked, not out on the water as I would have liked. Oh well.

PS - Not sure if it was clear but POR is a totally different waterway from Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake, they don't connect. Where can you go from POR? I never thought to inquire since we knew we were going to do this at the Poly.

The resorts with marinas on Seven Seas Lagoon/Bay Lake are: GF, Poly, Contemporary and Wilderness Lodge.

If I recall correctly, the POR waterway goes to DTD, and up to the old Dixe Landings part of POR. Beautiful area!

DS and I rented a mouseboat at DTD last month and they were reallllyy slow there. Just as slow as the YC boats. Maybe it's because it's a smaller area. I know the boats at the GF were zippy and I had a lot of fun with those. I don't recommend the DTD ones at all and passing through the small canal areas with the larger boats made me quite nervous.

Fort Wilderness, too.

The length of stay plans included unlimited rentals at one marina during your length of stay (and I think some were later modified to one week?) for 4/5 in your party depending on resort. At the GF and Polynesian you needed to be a guest of the hotel to sign up. If you plan to use the boats a lot, they are/were a great deal. We were at the Polynesian in October and didn't see the sign for the plan however. I didn't ask as the desk at the marina was busy and we would not have made good use of the plan this trip anyway.

I don't remember seeing the no photograph rule before. Do you think it could have been added for security reasons?

Anyone have any idea if the Length of Stay perk is still available, and the cost associated with this?

I went on one last year at the Polynesian, with a camera in plain view, no one ever said anything about not bringing it.

And the water mice were stopped allover the lagoon... hmm....

I've never seen the no photo requirement. Guess I wasn't looking at what I signed. We always take pics while out in the boats and will continue to do so. I always make sure there are no boats around us and we don't stop too long. That is pretty much the only reason I rent these boats is for the great views to take pics of. The boats are too slow for us so we don't get them for that part.

Do you think if there are 8 of us renting 6 Sea Racers at one time there will be enough boats available? We usually rent at the Contemporary but needed just 3-4 boats for a smaller group. I suppose if necessary we could have some go to the Poly and some to Contemporary, but that would be more of an inconvenience.

I guess I'm just a chicken, those little boats scared me to death, and DS loves them. DH is already talking about how much fun it will be to go out on them again, With the weight limit, if DS wants to ride, I have to be in the boat with him. UGHHHH!

So when you go over those waves, do you turn and go the direction the waves are going? I'm sweating already.

Well if you rent a water mouse you'll definitely have fun! I loved those things! Also do you like to just sit out on lakes and relax? Or are you the type of person who would love to take a boat out on the water and just drive the whole time? If your the later I'd say 30 minutes was good but if your doing it for relaxation rather than fun then you might want a bit longer. Also, I was never the one to actually rent it, but just came along, and we always stopped on the water and never were in trouble for that, and took lots of pictures as well. I didn't even realize that that was breaking the rules however because like another poster I had my camera in plain sight, actually slung around my neck! Anyways however long you go be sure to have fun!
