Water in Checked Luggage How much is Too Much?

If you're going to go through all that trouble to bring 300lbs of liquid, you might as well make it beer :)

One Drop at a time. and I use Space Bags the Great way to store more in each bag by removing all of the air. When you take the O from H20 you reduce its volume by 2/3.

300lbs of water in checked baggage = a great way to piss off the baggage handlers.....

I wonder if your luggage will be gently placed on the belt and into the plane... or will the baggage handlers be not so nice...

when I worked for UPS unloading trucks.... if I got a bunch of packages that were super heavy, I just grabbed the stack and let them tumble down... I didn't care if someone's computer was on top of the stack... down it went.... BAMM!

Have a good time! :rotfl:

Staples is a very Good idea. And one i would have used last time had i thought of it. For this trip i am still un-decieded since we have the watter allready and it is allready packed. But if i do take it, and their is a problem with TSA, then i know a quick call to staples can get it fixed. Or maybey just use staples and forget about any problems at all.
Well, but water doesn't go bad - you can drink it at home. Yeah, Staples is a really great idea.

I have noticed alot of you think that i am crazy,
Crazy? No. A little obsessive? Maybe. As others have pointed out, Florida DOES have water.

RE: - Packing water in your checked luggage. I just wouldn't go through the hassle. Why not just bring some empty water bottles and a fresh Brita pitcher? Lighter AND cheaper
BRILLIANT!!! That takes up MUCH less room (and weight!) than 300 pounds of water AND it filters the water!

You mentioned earlier that you brought a great deal of water before, so my question is why did you even bother to ask if you've carried water in your luggage before? Seems like a long thread to discuss something that has been done (not quite as much, but still more than most would bother with). To me personally, it seems like waste of time, space and potentially money if you aren't accurate in your luggage weight. Water just isn't a budget breaker. You'd be better of bringing a pitcher w/filter and a few bottles to refill. :)

OP wanted to know if the restrictions on liquids (carry on) would cause the TSA to be suspicious if someone was packing that much liquid. THEY MIGHT. I also think the OP better be very careful with the weight. I don't think any airline will be flexible if you're maxing out your baggage allowance with water. Combine that with the risk of breakage and I wouldn't bother.

Join staples reward program(for free) and have H2O sent to your room. Very reasonable. A friend flew resently with Delta and was over his 50lbs and paid a $26 fee for his bag. I would go with staples-I know we are. :wizard:

And that overweight fee is charged even it a bag is a pound over (yeah, I know, sometimes Agents make exceptions - but many people don't take the weight of the luggage into account)

As someone who once had their belongings soaked and ruined by liquids that leaked during a flight, I ask you to please not do this. I wasn't so smart that time, I didn't get the name of the person whose bag leaked. I won't make that mistake again, and the next time there will be a lawsuit for not only replacement of my belongings, but also my time and effort to do so.

The savings of packing the water in checked luggage will be negated by the cost of defending such a lawsuit.

Regardless of "how well" it's packed, it's still enough liquid to cause a HUGE mess if it leaks.

As far as getting the name of your fellow passenger with the leaky luggage... Unfortunately, even dummies who pack excess liquids in their luggage are entitled to privacy. You can always file a claim with the airline, though. It would be nice if people packed appropriately, but as you can see on these boards, it appears to be up for debate what that really means...

To aviod the overcharge we pre weigh all of our bags to 48lb. then we arrive early before the check in opens at our airport. and re-weigh each bag on their digital scales the same one that will be use to check the weight. and make sure we are at 48lb so as to no go over.

That's smart packing! We all (I think) still strongly recommend that you order water from Staples - I think delivery is really quick - for all the reasons listed; but it may well be accepted by the TSA

I think the brita pitcher idea is great...will use that next time. We brought a 24 pack with us last June and it was no trouble...packed in 3's in large zip lock bags. (At first I had them in one suitcase with our beach towels but it was too heavy for me to lift...so I spread them around)

The last day we were checking out of AKL and had four left..so we each took a bottle for the ride home. When bell services came to our room to get our bags guess what they brought for our "safari" trip home...water!

If I had to do it again I'd go w/the brita pitcher or ordering from staples.
