OK, so we have this wonderful new baby boy in our family now (recently adopted from Russia) and are planning for our next trip in May. We plan on spending lots of time at the pools (SAB at BC/YC/BCV) and I was wondering which water diapers work best and where can we get them?

Any other advice with these things??

He's going to be about 11 months old when we are at WDW so any advice is much appreciated.

Our two boys are past the swim diaper stage, but I will let you know what we have done. One is 10 so they didn't have such a thing, but with the five year old we have used both the cloth swim diapers (required by the pool we use for swimming lessons) as well as the Huggies brand when we were at public pools or traveling. Both work well. The Huggies were nice because we could just rip them off when done swimming, didn't need to be washed and are found almost everywhere.

On the other hand, the cloth swim diapers could be washed and used again (might not want those when you are traveling just in case there is an accident). They come in cute colors and lots of sizes. Our pool sells them, but I have found them in other children's stores as well.

Have fun with your new addition!

We have used the huggies little swimmers for both of our children. I really like them because they are not bulky like a diaper is when it gets wet and I love that you can just toss them in the trash when you are done and not have to carry them around. Most places that carry Huggies Diapers will usually carry the Little Swimmers. Wonderful to hear about your adoption.

Another vote for Huggies Little Swimmers. You can get them at Target, Walmart, etc. and some supermarkets. They don't swell up like regular diapers and they do hold in the smelly stuff pretty well...I'm on my 3rd baby in 5 years so sometimes I get distracted and I don't always "notice" right away so we've tested them!!!

Congratulations on your new addition!!

Huggies Little Swimmers for us too! In fact I just packed them for our 2 1/2 year old! Congrats on your adoption!:D

Count us in also for the Huggies! I don't think that anyone else makes them. At least ones that aren't cloth. Huggies is the only brand of swim diapers that I have ever seen in the stores in my area.

We have used both the Huggies Little Swimmers and the Cloth Speedo style. Flap Happy makes one that you can get the little hats to match. Both work equally well.

It's unanimous, Huggies Little Swimmers it is. We have our own pool so they get used all the time and we've never had a problem.

We have used both the Little Swimmers and the reusable type that are like a rubber pants lined spedo. Our neighborhood pool now requires the reusable ones so we've bought those this year. They take up less room when packing but you can't just toss them if they are messy (never had that happen yet....knock on wood! ;) )

I've found swim trunks with the rubber pants type built right in them as well.

CONGRATS on your adoption!

Here's a tip: use the disposable swim diapers with the cloth re-usable OVER it (buy the next size up so it fits).

The disposables are great to toss when you are done or if they get "messy" but are NOT good at holding everything in, if need be. Ugh.

With the cloth swim diaper on the outside, you can almost always just rinse it after a swim and hang to dry, like all your other swimsuits.

We use the little swimmers for the most part, though I keep finding really cute little suits for Belle and now she's got one heck of a collection.

I found some little swimmers at Babies R Us yesterday, the girls ones had Ariel on them and they had Nemo and Pooh ones too. Very cute!!

Little Swimmers here! But here's a strange one for ya. When we went in Nov 2002 we had planned to purchase them on our grocery stop because they were no longer available here in Central PA. Well, they were no longer available at the grocery store in Florida either! (I think we went to Publix). We asked the clerk and she said they only sell them in the summer. Didn't make sense to me, only selling swimmers in the summer in a place that is pretty much warm all year. But luckily the CR had a 2 pack for sale. Of course we paid as much for 2 as we would for 12.

Most Central/Northern Floridians consider 70 degree weather to be "cool," and don't swim if the temps drop below 80 degrees. We moved here from MN almost 3 years ago, and were amused to hear people complaining about it being "cold" when the temps were in the 60's. Now, however, we find ourselves doing the same! LOL!

I have always used the Huggies Little Swimmers because they worked well and there wasn't any others to pick from at the stores. I found some yesterday at Shaws. They were Clifford and were 11 for $4.99. Seemed like a good deal so I grabbed some and will try them out this summer.

Hey - thanks for the tips so far. I did pick up some little swimmers last night at Target (6.99 for 12).

Do any of you also use the washable cloth swim pants over the diapers? A friend of mine says she uses the little swimmers, then a washable cloth pair, then the poor kids' swim trunks. Images of the little boy in that more "A Christmas Story" come to mind.

Any info is once again appreciated.

Thanks,

AWTY

For my 7 month old DD, we go to the Y once a week for swim class and I use the Little Swimmers, plus her bathing suit has one of those swim diapers built in (Gymboree) which apparently can be used alone without the disposable ones. Personally, I think three layers is torturing for a little one, and those disposables seem to work pretty well.

If you have a Big Lots discount store near you, you might be able to find some. This week I was in there and I saw some Luv's brand swim diapers for about half the price of the Huggies ones I already had bought for our trip (so about $3.50 vs $7.) Wish I had waited. Tempted to buy more for this summer. :)
