Ok, I thought I'd thought of "everything" (LOL) regarding
WDW w/our rambunctious 2 year old DS.
But....

Just thought about what we'd do with him during
the campfire & movie after the sing-a-long with Chip & Dale??
He's usually enthralled with a favorite movie here at home,
but also likes to get up & run around while watching.
As a parent, I could care less if other children are active
and noisy during an outside film, but that's just me.
Do other parents feel the same?

Should we expect him to stay in his stroller
(which I highly doubt will happen),
or at least not run around/talk during the movie?
Should we be prepared (as always) to leave if he's noisy?

TIA! :)

We took my then 2 and 4 year old sons to the sing along and movie this past Christmas. The area has a lot of gravel and to be honest, even though my sons ADORE Chip and Dale and the movie was a favorite of thiers, they were more interested in picking up and tossing rocks from the gravel than anything else. We didn't stay long for that very reason.

Yep, that's what I was afraid of!

Honestly? I get upset when kids are running around and being loud in the movies or at restaurants. I realize that disney is a kid place, so I'm sure I'd be more tolerant. But if a kid was constantly running back and forth and being loud, I"d be distracted and then get aggravated. But a litlte quiet running around is to be expected.

Hi Christina,
Thanks for your honest comment,
I can certainly understand.
We've never taken DS to a regular movie
because of his vocal & physical energy at this age.
I just wondered if others that had been to the campfire
noticed some noise, & if it was acceptable, etc.
It's a tough call for me on this end
because it's an outdoor movie, with a lot of fun beforehand,
so that tells me some kids are probably wound up.

Blessings :earsgirl:

Speaking of the movie and campfire, I would love to know everyones thoughts on it. We have never been before but are planning to make that our first night event. We will have 5 children, ages: 2,3,7,8, and 12. Is this something that will be fun for everyone? What can we expect? Thanks for all the help, cause I need it. :confused3 ;)

We went with our DS, 2 1/2 yo this past February. We missed Chip & Dale, for we arrived just as the movie started. We were eating at the Concourse Steakhouse and decided to boat over. We were delayed by watching Wishes from the boat dock and therefore missing a boat. After a long day and a long, dark walk in his stroller to reach the movie DS was almost asleep. The movie was Cindy II and we stayed for about a half hour. There was some rock kicking, constant seat moving and concession traffic-but less than we see at our state parks campground's movies here in the summertime.

He had never been to movie either, it worked out good that Cindy II seemed to have more than one short movie/story to it so we left after the first. Since we have been home we have taken him to see Pooh's Heffalump Movie. At 63 minutes the length was perfect for him. The storyline did not feature the big 4 (his favorites), but caught up with the 4 often enough to keep his interest going. Once Roo and Lumpy found his mother our DS's interest in that part of the storyline picked up as well. If this is still at a theatre, I recommend it.

The campfire program and movie is a lot of fun! The sing-along with Chip and Dale is great, and the campfire is fun, too. After the sing-along there is a short break before the movie and during this time many people will drift off. It is a little quieter during the movie but there is still enough activity going on that little ones with the wiggles won't be a bother.

Just stay as long as you can and then leave. For your DS's first movie I can't imagine a better setting! Just be sure you have your camera and remember--Chip loves cookies!!

:umbrella: Oh, yeah, if it is raining there is a sing-along only on the Meadows porch--without Chip and Dale.

Thanks, campingcorgi! :wave2:
We'll definitely be trying it,
& if all goes well we'll do more than one night.

We stayed at FW and went to the campfire activities several times. Being so close, it was perfect for us to relax and still experience Disney magic. We didn't always stay for everything - sometimes just the sing a long and a few marshmellows, sometimes for some or all of the movie only. Everything is pretty casual - there's lots of people walking around going from the seats to campfire, to concession stand etc. It's not like a movie theatre obviously, so don't worry about a little movement or noise. Of course complete mayhem would be distracting! We brought glow sticks from home and my kids 3,5 liked these a lot. We had people asking us where we bought them! You can buy all kinds of night light gadgets at the parks, but if you can bring anything you can save lots of $$. Definitely go - maybe you won't want to stay for the whole program, but it's not like you pay admission to this! I heard Chip and Dale especially like chocolate chip cookies! We asked them and got big head nods!

Does anyone know what time this kicks off in the evening or does it vary according to time of year? Everytime I think I have the itinerary set something else pops up. I knew about the movie and sing along but hadn't thought about doing it. But a fellow mom from dance class takes her DDs all the time when they go. She loves it. Now I'm thinking about doing this too. I need more hours in the day. :hourglass

striker3636: thanks - that's what I was hoping to hear!

Eeyore'sthebest: I saw it reported a while back that in
the winter/spring the movie generally starts around 7:00 pm,
and in the summer/early fall it's about an hour later.
I guess to take the light/lack of it, into consideration?

Anyone know for sure?

The campfire is a casual thing with people walking around all the time. I wouldn't worry about an active 2 year old. He will probably watch the movie for a few minutes, then want to run around. There is a playground you can take him to, and a store you can walk around. There's also the wagon ride which was VERY fun for my young children.

For the family with 5 children, you should bring along hotdogs and buns for a cookout. We saw a large family there cooking hotdogs at the campfire. The mom had buns, ketchup, mustard, etc. for the family. That would probably be fun for your children.

Thanks so much Alicenwonder99. Bringing our own hot dogs is a great idea. I know the kids will love it!!

Thanks for the great advice & encouragement, everyone!
It's very much appreciated.
