Watching labor on TV...

Does anyone else get totally grossed out watching women give birth on TV? Whenever I watch 16 and Pregnant or any other show involving pregnant women I have to change the channel during delivery. It makes me feel nauseous and makes my toes curl .

Nope, not at all! My Mom is a Midwife, so I grew up around stuff like that. I used to help out at their birthing class when I was younger, so I've seen many birthing videos and am used to it by now!

Doesn't bother me. TV gives you the pretty and sanitized version. I went through almost 30 hours of labor and over 2 hours of pushing with both my children. Twenty seconds on television is nothing!

Nope, I think it's pretty neat. Even though I have 2 kids of my own, I love watching babies born cause it's just such a miracle. Even though they come out all bloody, slimy, and scrunched up, it's just an amazing process.

Nope, I don't feel uncomfortable, but for some reason, it does make me have to pee. Whenever I see a 'birth' on TV, I always start to feel like I have to pee. I clearly remember watching animal 'births' in elementary school classes and human 'births' in Jr. high and feeling SOOOO uncomfortable because I needed to 'go' badly. I wonder what that, psychologically, means about me. Ha!

Watching it? No, it doesn't really gross me out. Then again, I can eat and watch a surgery at the same time.

The thought of having to go through it one day is what scares me. I can handle pretty much any other pain, but the thought of labor scares the daylights out of me!

It doesn't bother me at all.

However, your reaction is quite normal for a portion of the population. There are just some folks who do get grossed out or nauseous or whatever. So I don't feel it is my place to tell you your reaction is incorrect, b/c it really isn't.

That said, I've had all my deliveries taped (no shots "down there"). However--my last birth was completely drug free. He was born 2 years ago and to this day, I can't bring myself to watch it. I wasn't traumatized--but let's just say...it hurt and I let everyone know it.

Makes me not want to have kids.

(And for those of you who would like to comment that it's natural and all that, I know, and I'll have kids, I just don't like to watch it on TV!)

Oh, and I am still totally and completely drawn to those shows - haha!

Nope, doesn't gross me out at all. Just saw a movie of it last week at DD's Childbirth classes. We'll be seeing it in real life very soon!!

I'm intrigued by it even though I've gone through delivery twice myself. Watching deliveries on tv gave me ideas on how I wanted my deliveries to be. For instance, I didn't want anyone cheering me on or yelling at me to push, I wanted it to be quiet, I wanted the lights dimmed & I wanted to stand or squat when possible. If I hadn't watched deliveries on tv, I would not have known what was possible and what I wanted or didn't want.

it did me too and I waited a long time to have kids, when the time comes you just do it, so not to worry yourself over it in advance

I am drawn like a moth to flame and watch those shows, but I do have some empathy pain in the bottom of my feet during any of the painful parts

DD was addicted to the show "Baby Story" for about two seasons when she was 8 and 9 years old. She has seen every version of birth there is I think I always wanted to be a doula or midwife, maybe she'll live my dream!

I had a kid and I don't want to watch it. I don't find it entertaining or interesting.

Luckily, when you're in labor yourself, you don't really have the best view to see what's happening unless you make arrangements for a mirror or something. I chose to skip the mirror.

I doesn't bother me. I actually usually get teared up when the baby is actually delivered.

DD9 loves "A Baby Story." Patsgirl, glad to hear my DD is not the only one.

NO WAY! I feel the oppostie. I watch those shows all the time. It's just amazing. Then after I had my DD, I watch those shows even more and cry a little. It's just so crazy and amazing.

It grosses me out and I popped out a 10 pounder myself. What REALLY gags me is watching the dad or whoever cut the cord. A friend of ours did it with their last child and he said it felt like cutting through a slab of raw bacon with scissors. Vomit!

Me too! That noise that it makes . I don't think it's the gooey part of the delivery that makes me sick to my stomach. It's watching a lady with a sweaty, purple, scrunched up face and crazy hair pushing with her legs spread in the air while 4-5 people are staring at her, constantly talking to her and the look on the husband/boyfriend's face is always like "What the hell did I get myself into?!"

My poor kids were tortured with these shows every time I was pregnant. Hopefully, it will help dd12 get through The Miracle of Life movie she has to watch next year in health class!
