Watching fireworks from our room tonight, and they stopped abruptly. Any idea why?

Most likely winds at higher elevations.

It happens when winds get too high for them to continue. Even when the show starts there's no guarantee it will go through all the way.

If the winds start causing the fallout to land closer to I-5, it will shut down.

We went to DL in February 2016, for a week, and they cancelled the fireworks every night for wind. It was a bummer. It would usually not even feel windy, but apparently there was more wind higher up in the atmosphere from us at ground level.

I do not question the wisdom of the cancellations, of course. A few times we were on Main St, waiting and hoping, they wait until last minute to cancel, hoping to get them off.

I watch the clouds. If the clouds are moving much I don't anticipate fireworks.

As a pilot I can tell ya that that winds at the surface and even as low as 800' where most fireworks go off can be dramatically different. There are very tight allowances if the winds are at all blowing to the west or north which affects the fallout area.

Thanks! I had no idea they cancel mid-show. We've visited and had them cancel beforehand due to wind, but never during! Learned something new!
