Just returned from an 8 day stay at WDW (oct 25- nov 1) and we had a great time!

We stayed at the all star Movies and while there our maid (housekeeping) stole 2 checks from my fiancee's purse in the room and we just realized when we got home that one of the checks had already been written..... for $2500.00!!!!!! and they still have one more to go also! anyways, we got the bank to stop payment before the check cashed but still.. remember to watch your stuff closely.... Even Disney isn't safe place anymore :furious:

OMGosh!!! That's terrible! I would notify Disney (if you haven't already.) Certainly a lesson to put everything in the safe. Hope everything turns out for you.

You MUST alert Disney ASAP. This is terrible!

That's awful! That's so sad that someone would do that.. did you tell someone at Disney?

yes we have contacted Disney and are in the process right now of figuring something out? We'll just have to wait and see

I always put anything like that in the safe and you would be surprised how much you can stuff into it. :thumbsup2 I hope Disney does something in regards to your issue.

I figure Disney is like any other place...if I don't want it stolen I don't leave it out. On our trip 2 weeks ago we left a bag in the bottom of our stroller while we checked in for dinner at Hollywood and Vine. We were seated outside with our pager and DH was watching the stroller...suddenly he gets up. I'm like "What's going on???". He SAW the bag under our stroller disappear into a crowd of people. He tried to see who did it, but the crowd was thick and there was no way to tell who took it...and a lot of them were carrying the Disney bags. He reported it to Guest Services as a "just so you know"...and much to our surprise they replaced everything that was in the bag for free! I never expected that since it really was our fault for leaving it in the stroller to start with. It was pics from the Tower of Terror and a small basketball from Rockin' Rollarcoaster...but it meant a lot that they replaced it for us.

Did your fiancee leave her purse in the room while you were out?

Were you tipping this maid? If so, that would make me even more angry, if I were you. I mean the nerve of some people!

What makes a person like me never even DREAM of stealing someone else's posession and make another person OK with it?!

No place is ever safe. You take the risk when you leave your belongings behind in an accesable location.

Most hotels I check in to--it is written somewhere, be it my check in slip or glued to the door in the room...to not leave valuable belongings behind.

It is a risk you take and one persons wrong doing is not characteristic of every single employee.

I'm sorry that happened to you--but WDW or anyplace else I have gone or stayed at hasn't been a "safe place anymore" for a couple of decades at least. :(

yes she left her purse in there all week long. also, i was leaving a 5.00 tip every day for 7 nights!!!

we got the employees name and disney has already admitted she/he works there and will continue with investigation.

Did you at least get towel animals?

Sorry but I have to ask. How did you get the employees name? Did she actually write the check out to herself? Some things just never seem to amaze me.

Deanna :bored: :cat:

I am so sorry this happened to you.....probably the reason why I lock my suitcases in my room and anything of value goes into the safe....everything else is locked in my suitcase. I even lock my medications, it is only regular stuff allergies etc, but I lock it up. I hate leaving my cosmetics out....This is what happens when you have been brought up by a policeman and have policemen in your family.......temptation and opportunity are a dangerous mix..

I hope Disney handles this appropriately and this person is prosecuted...

sorry to hear this happened to you, but I agree -- no where is safe anymore and safes should be used. Also, if not enough room in that safe some resorts have larger safes at guest relations so I have heard. I travel with only what I need to try to not encounter anything like that.

best wishes to you and your situation...........

There is something that I'm puzzled about... How do you know the check was written for $2500 if it hasn't been cashed?

I just reread what was written in reference to Rita Z.'s question.....I am wondering if it went like this.. they noticed that two checks were missing, immediately contacted their bank to stop payment on any checks coming through for cashing with those numbers, so when the check was presented for cashing, it was not cashed????????????because there was a stop payment.. Can that be done????

Another question: How does the OP know it was the WDW maid who stole the check?

Didn't you know?
