I’m about to experience the culmination of 18 months of planning, saving, waiting and dreaming. We, all 12 of us, leave in 8 days for Disney World Family Vacation 2007….8 fun filled nights at the CBR, dining plan and silly hats.
The Cast: (names have been changed to protect the seemingly innocent)
I’ll start with me. I’m a 27 year old Math major at the U of Arkansas. Only one more year until I actually have a college degree! The scary thing is that I was only a sophomore when I started planning this trip. My DH31, is a graphic designer, 8-5 kind of guy…loves art and is a wonderful dad. Which brings me to DD4, our only child/princess/diva. She’s excited about staying in a “hotel room” again. We’ll be celebrating her 5th birthday a couple weeks early with a new Cinderella dress, a visit to the Bibbidy Bobbidy Boutique, and dinner with Cinderella at 1900 Park Faire. She likes Cinderella, can you tell?
Next there are the Burk‘s. DSis32 is my partner in crime. It was her idea for us to do a family trip to WDW. She is my “Tour Guide Mike”. She also made all the reservations and planned the itinerary, my Disney World hero. Her hubby, DBil36, is also an 8-5 guy and loves wine and golf. Their son, Dneph6, is my DD’s best friend. He loves art and Lightning McQueen…..her SERIOUSLY loves Lightning McQueen.
Now for the Gar‘s. There is my DBro30 and his wife DSil35. They have 3 kids, my niece 13, my nephew 11, and niece 2. DSil and family signed on to the “big family trip” about a year ago. She’s as disney obsessed as Dsis and I. They were so determined to go on this trip they had garage sales in the rain. Now that’s commitment.
Then, lastly, there is my mom. This will be her second trip to WDW, but first time flying. By that I mean the first time flying on an airplane EVER. She is 66 years old and still works 8 hours a day, on her feet, with arthritis in her knee and back. She raised us by herself, and could never afford to take us on a real vacation. When I’ve asked her if she could have any wish, what would it be, she’s always said it would be to go on a nice vacation with her whole family. Well, three out of five of her kids will be going on this trip as well numerous grandkids and in-laws, so I hope this trip will be a bit like that wish. If anyone should have a dream come true, it should be her. She’s had a rough life but raised us so well.
So you got it? There’s me, DH, DD4, Dsis, Dbil and Lightning McQueen, Dbro, Dsil and their 3 kids, and don’t forget our matriarch Mom. That’s 12! I’ll apologize now to anyone subjected to my family’s, shall we say, wrath.
The Plot:
So we leave in 8 days. I have so much stuff to do. We live in NW Arkansas, the hub of Tyson Foods, Walmart, and the Arkansas Razorbacks. There’s an airport here, but is so expensive we are driving almost two hours to Tulsa, Oklahoma and flying out there. So besides packing and shopping for the trip, I have two tests next week, DD’s gymnastics and 2 soccer games, and Lightning McQueen has his first kindergarten play. He’s been practicing his line all week. My Dsis baby sits DD for me while I go to school so we are very close and see each other everyday. I can’t fathom how many hours we spent talking about Disney stuff. Sometimes we call each other just to say how many days to go and talk about what we will eat on the dining plan and what we‘ve read on the DIS. We’ve been planning this so long, I never thought it would get here. We are so excited, even the guys are getting excited. To think that in 8 days I will be in sunny (hopefully!) Orlando, and meeting the mouse for the first time…it blows my mind. I can feel the magic stirring up inside me already.
NEXT EPISODE:
Getting to WDW--Mom’s first plane ride and the Garner’s drive to Orlando.
