Wasn't charged for parking for our one night

Here is a cool but true story! We almost always fly. Last time...We drove. While checking in..the CM thanked me for my military service and waved all parking fees. So it happens.
she said to mention that. I think there is some leeway as to charging. Also, A co worker went (im a professional firefighter) He got his waived also. So, interesting. The one thing ive learned with WDW or DLR, If you are say a Veteran or Police/Fire (professional) It does have some perks.

DVC can still pay for rooms with cash and then they do pay for parking.
A dually, of you are staying at a DVC resort, DVC member do not get charged for parking, even if they are paying cash. Basically the only way they are supposed to be charged for parking is if paying with cash at a resort with no DVC rooms according to the official rules.

Sorry, yeah, that was supposed to be assumed but I guess I shouldn't have assumed people realized that.
And I went on to explain in further details
DVC member through DVC, not the resort.
If you pay cash through Disney you will pay for parking. It's just like a traditional resort reservation in the end.
For instance, if you rent via cash through Disney, you get daily housekeeping. DVC stays on points do not (without paying extra that is)

My comment was more towards DVC members who opt to rent rooms at nonDVC resorts. Such as the OP did. They paid cash to stay at POR at the start of their stay. This would normally incur a parking charge. However, DVC can also use points to stay in a nonDVC resort. I would assume (though don't know for sure) that they would NOT incur a parking fee in this case. But am not certain on this.

You are correct they would not pay for parking if they are using points to stay in a non DVC resort.

So ways DVC members avoid parking charges:
  • Stay at a resort with DVC rooms and book through DVC with cash or points. (Sometimes parking will get waived no matter how they booked at these resorts)
  • Stay at a DVC only resort and pay with cash or points, booked through DVC or through Disney
  • Stay at a non DVC resort on points booked through DVC (Bad use of points by the way)
  • Have a handicap placard
There are other times the parking fees will get waived as well, but these are the primary ways.
