When standing in line for Printing and Engraving Tickets -- can you pick the time you want to tour? If you stand in line on Monday - are the tickets available just for Monday or can you get tickets for a different day?

Any other places in DC that we need to get tickets to see before going? I think I remember Ford's Theater. Anything else?

Do they do public tours at the Pentagon?

The only VIP Congressman tour we were able to book was the Capitol.

I'm not sure about the Engraving tour question, but my Congressman's office is setting us up with many tours for the fall and I was told that the Pentagon tour is a big snooze fest for kids. Even one of the adults who work with him said it was a snooze fest for her also.

We are going to DC later this month. I had my Representative's office to arrange our Bureau of Engraving & Printing tour. We have an assigned tour time, so we won't have to wait in lines there. I was also able to get our Washington Monument tickets in advance, as well as arrange our tour of the Capitol building. You can also get your tickets for the National Archives online and for the Library of Congress. I decided to wait on the last two. I'm afraid if I had too many timed entrance tickets, we would be slaves to the clock.

We are planning a full day at Mt. Vernon, and I did purchase those tickets online in advance. They strongly recommend that so that you may bypass the line at the entrance.

Have fun planning!

I would get all the tour tickets I could before you go. If you have to wait there, you need to get in line at like 6am for some of those places. The tickets go sooo very fast. We took a quick unexpected trip in the spring and DH was up and in line that early and still did not get tickets one day. Not fun!

at my agency,Voice of America, they offer free tour at 11am and 3pm i think. no ticket needed. Its across from the Amerian Indian Museum.

You can get tickets ahead of time for the Wahington Monument, Ford's theater, Holocaust museum, Mount Vernon and discounted tickets for a tour of the city if you plan to do that.

Im pretty sure the Pentagon tour isn't that awesome from what I hear. You only see a few rooms and security is a pain. I highly recommend doing the tram tour around Arlington if you plan to do Arlington. Some of the monuments inside the cemetary are gorgeous and alot of history there.

I use my D.C. Guide for Dummies. It's been very helpful since the move here with metro stops and listings of places to eat and helps according to expense as well as listing the various activities that usually occur during the month you are planning to come to town.

The National Archive Tour was so interesting and well worth it. You enter before it opens to the public and get a tour of the Charters of Freedom area and a chance to look at the documents plus a tour of other areas. It was one of the best tours. We arranged for tours of the Capitol and White House through our senator's office. We arranged tours of the National Archive and got tickets to the Washington Monument and Holocaust Museum in advance on our own. We went to the Bureau of Engraving & Printing the day of at 7:30 to get tickets and had our choice of time.

Make sure you find out what days/hours tours are available for everything in which you are interested before you book anything. Some places like the Washington Monument have longer hours and are open 7 days a week. Other places like the National Archives have very limited times/days for tours.
