DH is out on the road delivering groceries to the stores. It took him 3 1/2 hours to go to his first store where it should have taken him no more than 1 1/2 hours. His travel routes are I-81 , I-70, I-270, I-495, I-95. Nothing has been plowed. He just went through approx 1 foot of sleet on the I-95 onramp. Right now people are sitting in the middle of the interstate cleaning off their windshields.

OK, as I am typing he is back on I-95 near Lorton, VA. It has been plowed but is still very dangerous. Still very sleet covered.

Anybody that has to be on the road, PLEASE be careful!!!!

ETA....He is on the Prince William Parkway in Woodbridge. It has been plowed and is mainly slushy.

Thanks for the report... I think. My family and I are leaving this afternoon to drive from FL to VA, and I'm a total wreck about driving in the bad weather.

Not sure where this bad weather begins, but if you get in any, just take it slow and steady. Hopefully, by the time you hit this neck of the woods, the roads will be in better condition!!!

Take care and drive safe:thumbsup2

Thanks! :) You guys be safe, too. Hope your husband makes it home with no problems today!

Thanks for the report - we live just a couple miles north of Lorton, and the neighborhood roads are a mess. They don't plow in our neighborhood, so it's snow glazed with a layer of ice. Blech.

DH just left for work a few minutes ago (two hour delay), and he takes I-495 (the Capital Beltway) to work. When I got up at 4:45 this morning, there was already a four or five car pile-up on his route.

I'm just glad that the kids' school closed - I wasn't looking forward to driving them in this morning.

They delayed us .We do service from the Pa line to Southern MD. Mostly around the 2 Beltways (495 ,695).
I can count on my hands the times we have closed in my 22 years of work.

I live on a main road that most of the city salttrucks have to use to get from their yard and we still have an inch of sleet / slushy mix on the road.

They have had a few 18wheelers jackknife already on 95 and a big salttruck overturn.

Thanks for the report.

That's what DH is driving, an 18 wheeler. Right now he is probably on the beltway headed for the dairy. Not sure where that is, I think it is right off the beltway near Tyson's Corner. I always worry about him when he drives in this kind of weather. It is such a relief when I see him pull in the driveway!!!

DH just left about 5 minutes ago for work. He has to go from D.C. into Maryland. He has 4 wheel drive but it doesn't help in ice. :(

I'm supposed to go to the first day of a three day class this morning. So far it's been delayed from 8 to 10, and then to noon.

I can understand that they've already brought the instructor in, and they can't compress it into 2 days...but honestly, I can't imagine that ANYONE is going to be able to get there at noon except the few people staying at the hotel right next to the class! (Most of us are local.)

Thanks! What are the weather reports for tonite and tomorrow in the DC/MD area? I fly into Reagan at noon tomorrow and will be driving to the Aberdeen area either tomorrow nite or Friday.

I'm not scared to fly in this weather but the driving on the roads terrifies me!

Hope your DH stays safe!!

Only going by the Weather Channel, show showers through later tonight, supposed to be clear by tomorrow. BIL just called me, there is only a rare vehicle out on the roads!!!! I know I am not going anywhere. I even forgot to get DH a Valentine's card and I will not risk it to go to the store. I printed him one off on the computer:cool1: !!!!

DsF was a long haul trucker he had his own rig then started to drive for others. Did Ny city runs all the time and Mass. he would leave on Mon and we wouldn't see him again until Fri.

Now he drive local doing 3rd shift lot work sometimes moving trailers from one plant to another for SOHO or sweetheart cup ( name has changed so many times).

He came in this morning around 6:30 saying how bad it was overnight.

i'm in pg county, md and our local roads are terrible. they haven't even plowed them around here yet. i saw on the news that the bay bridge was closed in one direction because of an overturned truck! :scared1:

OK, DH is back on the DC beltway, it is just wet with slush on the lines. But it is still not safe. He just saw a Bronco hit the slush and go sideways, almost got T-boned!!!

I guess I will get a call from my office manager in 10 minutes as to whether my office will open this afternoon. I'm not sure if I will go in even if it opens. DS just called, he plows and salts for the local businesses as a side job, he said that the roads definitely are not safe!!!!

Our road (a popular county one) is slushy and partially clear but has little or no traffic. Right now we are in a lull with gusts of wind up to 30 mph expected this afternoon. Power crews are on standby thank goodness!

Tomorrow the temps will not get above 23 degrees so nothing will melt! Yikes!

I work for the power company and just drove from the beltway in Springfield to Fredericksburg and the roads are just wet. We are working hard to get the power back on. Thank goodness I get a lunch to get away from the madness and get some sanity from the DIS.

I guess some of your busiest times are when Mother Nature is showing her bad side. Here's a big thank you to the people that keep our services running during the times the weather is the worst. It's no fun being without electric.

What she said.
