My DW Shirley and I did a 2 nighter/3 dayer down in Washington DC the last few days. The weather was unreal.
We took our 5th wheel from PA to DC and stayed at a National Park Campground 12 miles outside of DC. The park was called Greenbelt. With our Senior Pass the rate was only $8 a night ($16 if you are youngins).
Wish we had more time, but we LUV DC and this was our first go at dry camping. Good way to experiment and flush out the bugs, dry camping. We learned a lot, but we still have a zillion questions.
There are 2 private campgrounds around DC, but their rate is high $60s, low $70s per night.
After we settled in, we went 2 miles to get on the Metro (Green Line), $6 apiece that dropped us off 3 blocks from the Space/Air Museum. We hit the museums all the way out to the Monument. Worked our way back to 7th and Pennsylvania, just enjoying the day and got back on the Green Line, and back to the the campsite.
Today Sunday, we packed up and headed west on the 495 loop to the new (2003) Air and Space Museum around Dulles airport. Parking is $15 whether you have a car or a pickup, towing a 5th wheel. The admission is free. If you are fascinated with airplanes, this is VALHALLA. I bought a hat there for $18 bucks.
Not including gas, snacks and the hat our cost came to $16 at the campground, $12 for the Metro and $15 to park out at the Dulles Air and Space Museum. Total $43 for a super time.

PS: We did spend another $6.50 apiece, on Friday night, to see the movie Secretariat. Almost as good as the movie Seabisquit. Sooooooo, add $13 to the $43-----Grand Total $56.00
