Washington, DC Hotels/Williamsburg Hotels?

Hi! We are thinking about taking a family trip this summer to Williamsburg, VA for 4 nights, then on to DC for 4 nights! We are wondering if anyone can help with a nice family friendly hotel in a good location for touring in DC? We will be driving, but would like to do as much on foot as possible?? Would also like info on Williamsburg hotels! We are planning on doing Bush Gardens while there also! Anything convenient for both Colonial Williamsburg and Bush Gardens? Would love any input on DC attractions also (or Williamsburg)! Thanks for any Williamsburg or DC Help!

We have not been yet but my friend & her family just went to DC and stayed here
Embassy Suites in Arlington. All Embassy Suites are 2 rooms (1K or 2D w/ pull out sofa in living room), include free full breakfast (omelets, waffles,etc) and Manager's Reception, which is full open bar and appetizers from 5-7. Most have indoor pools too. They loved it

The Embassy Suites in Old Town Alexandria, VA is across the street from the King's Street Metro and really nice.

I recommend the DC for Dummies book and the Unofficial Guide to DC. It breaks things down be children age groups and prices and gives great directions for you taking the metro.

For the most part you'll have to take the metro or walk to everything you want to see. Driving in the city is impossible and can be expensive.

It is quite warm and humid here in the summer so drink lots of water and bring sunscreen.

In Williamsburg, most hotels along Richmond Road are central to everything. Also, we love staying in Alexandria--so close to the city, and beautiful in its own right.

For our trip to Williamsburg last summer, we rented a 2 bed/2 bath villa through Ken Price at vacationupgrades.com for the Wyndham Governor's Green. He rents to tons of dis-ers for the Wyndham Bonnet Creek Resort at Disney, but he can rent for other areas as well. The location was great, and it had an activities center, nice pool, mini golf, etc. I think I paid about $100/night. So much space for about the same money as a hotel room.

I can highly recommend the Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, VA. Beautiful accommodations (we had a one bedroom condo) and a great resort with tennis, biking, racquetball, pool, golf, etc. Next door to Busch Gardens and a short drive to Colonial Williamsburg.

We haven't been yet, but we booked the Hilton Garden Inn for it's location - across from a Metro station and w/in walkable distance to the White House. We are hoping for tickets to the WH and if we get them, you are allowed to take NOTHING in, not even a purse or water bottle. So, that means we will have to go back to the hotel to get our stuff and head out for the rest of the day. It also has a pool which was important to my kids!

We stayed at the Crystal City Marriott in January and were very happy there. It's a bit of a ride to the major tourist areas, but the metro was located directly beneath the hotel (didn't even have to go outside to get to it) so it was very convenient. There were also plenty of restaurants and shops beneath the hotel, which made it very easy to grab a quick bite to eat in the morning or after a day of sightseeing. It was spotlessly clean, and I thought the rates were reasonable. We paid about $120/night (AAA rate) including parking.

We've also stayed at The Holiday Inn Rosslyn Keybridge and it was okay. If you can get a good rate (we paid $89'/night) it's worth it. It's two blocks from the metro and parking is free:

Actually the Crystal City Marriott does have a nice indoor pool. DH, DD and I were the only ones swimming in it. Maybe it's a well-kept secret!
