Hello!
I was wondering if anyone has any tourist info for Washington, D.C.
I am going down for two days for a reception at the Library of Congress.
An ornament I painted will be displayed on the tree there. Info about that is available here... http://countrycolours.homestead.com/libraryofcongress/welcome.html
The reception only lasts 1 hour so I was hoping to get in some sight seeing. Any suggestions?

The Smithsonian Museums are not only free but very, very interesting! We esp. love Air & Space, Natural History and US History. It's so much fun just perusing them! There's also a great spy museum nearby ... there is a fee don't know exactly how much.

The Holocaust Museum is ... I can't even come up w/an appropriate word ... just unbelievable. I don't recall the cost, either, but it is very interesting, haunting and so worthwhile.

The Vietnam War Memorial is another place to see.

Write or call your congressman for tickets to tour the White House. I believe it is once again open to the public.

Congrats on your achievement and have a great time!

If I remember correctly, the Spy Museum was about $12.00 to get into, but a lot of fun. You have to pay to park in the lot there as well.

The Holocaust museum is free, but you need to get a timed ticket in advance, and it is best if you do that the first thing in the morning. That is definitely a don't miss place. Right next door is the Bureau of Engraving and Printing which is really interesting as well. You need a timed ticket (free) for that as well. We got that at the same time as the Holocaust and just went to one right after the other.

We didn't use the Tourmobile, we used the Trolley, and that worked out great for us. You can transfer to another trolley that takes you to Arlington National Cemetary which is very convenient. We found that we saw almost all the major attractions in one day using the trolley. It was well worth the money.

If you have any other specific questions, let me know!

Mount Vernon would be nice to visit during the holiday season (I think its on those tour bus routes).

I used to love going to see the trees and museums when I was living in MD and No. VA.

You might want to book the time ticket entries now.
