Hi everyone -- we leave for disney on saturday and it just dawned on me that we use sippy cups every day and at home, i just wash them at night or throw them in the dishwasher, but what should i do when i'm on vacation?

it seem so silly to pack dishsoap so that I can wash them by hand at night but i'm not sure what else to do... any suggestions?

thanks!

You can purchase the take along/disposable sippy cups for use on your vacation and just toss them each night, or you can wash sippy cups at night in your hotel. I've read on these boards that some people take sponges and put dishsoap on them, let them dry fully, and then cut them into small pieces so you can just use a piece each night and not need to pack liquid soap. Otherwise, you can just pack a little bottle of liquid soap to wash them. Washing a few sippy cups won't take long. Also remember that sippy cups might become lost in the parks and bring a few spares along.

I cut up a sponge and soaked it in dishsoap then let it dry back out. I have read on here that the sponge works pretty well.

I say disposable. When dd was 18 months we took her regular sippy cups, brought the liquid soap, the whole nine yards, and I still didn't feel they were ever clean enough. Used to the dishwasher, I guess!

This year, ds will be almost 1 when we go. He won't be off the bottle at that point, he uses Dr. Brown's bottles. Those can be such a pain to clean, many parts. I've already decided to look for some cheap packs of bottles that I can take and toss while there. I've already found at a local store a pack of 3 (with Disney Characters on them!) for less than $4.00. I'll pick up a few of those and be good to go!

Isn't there dishsoap & hot water at the food courts where folks wash out their refillable mugs? It's been awhile so I can't quite remember.

I have a very small refillable bottle that we fill with dish soap. We take it on every trip and clean out cups with it. Works great!

I just got back last week and I brought 3 sippy cups with me. I only put water in them and just threw them in the dishwasher each night(we were staying in a villa). I brought 2 packages of juice boxes with me and gave these to my 2 year old when he wanted juice... lucky for us he's not a milk drinker or it would get pretty gross.

I buy those thin clothes called "handy wipes" or something like that. It's the same idea as the sponge....cut them into smaller pieces...put dish soap on them at home...let them dry and pack them into a ziploc. Nice and easy and great to toss after each use.

I usually take a small bottle of dishwashing liquid and wash them in the sink - it takes only a couple of minutes, and just leave them to dry on a face cloth. A couple of times I have forgotten to take my "little bottle" and just used the hand soap from the bathroom - hasn't caused her any harm!! LOL.

Last year, we brought a package of the disposable sippy cups (they make them with Disney characters, too! Found them at WalMart). Every night, I would hand wash them in our sink. I took a travel sized shampoo bottle and filled it with dishwashing liquid. Then, just used a washcloth to clean it out.

It helped that as the kids would finish with their juice/milk, we would rinse the cups in the bathroom. No nasty, warm milk left to settle all day. Yuck.

Worked great.

I did the dishsoap on sponge and let dry technique. I cut the sponge up into 1 inch squares. I ended up bringing way too many as I like to be prepared, but the girl scout in me ended up having enough for 10 families. We also brought take and toss cups, but my DH really got on me for their lack of kindness to Mother Earth. I can kinda see his point, but they are handy. I ended up washing out take and toss cups which kinda defeated the purpose of the cups in the first place. Oh well.

I packed a small bottle of dishsoap and a bottle brush. Make sure to put the dishsoap in a ziploc bag in case it leaks.

I don't think so. There's some kind of contraption the mugs fit over. Sort of. I didn't buy one and obviously didn't pay enough attention. Definitely no dish soap, though.

In the grocery store they sell dawn pads. (Not sure of the name) They are small and will fit into a ziploc bag. They have a smooth side and a "rougher" side. They lather up in water and last a long time. They are easy and disposable. I use one for a couple days. They are sold in the dish soap aisle. I take them whenever I go away, I too have small kids and need to wash stuff. Hope this helps!

We take dish soap and wash them every night.

Sandra

Yep. Me too. Our first trip was when DD was 3 months old. I had to think ahead. I took an old conditioner travel bottle, or something, cleaned it out and filled it with dishsoap. I also labeled it. I'm still using the same soap, 15 months later.

And I use the disposable sippies because they stack. But I still wash them every night. I'm debating what I'm going to do for our Oct. trip because DD is moving into faster moving cups (straws and such). And those aren't stackable. I do have the disposables with straws. Maybe I'll just take those. But they are messy.

And as for clean--it hasn't hurt DD yet either. And like I said, I had to handwash at 3 months. We had two sinks in our hotel room. One I washed with hot water. Then I went in the bathroom for the cool rinse. Leave out on the vanity overnight and you're ready to go. Much less worried now.

It's easier than planning on how many cups to take along. Isn't it hard enough calculating diapers?

kinda off subject, but the sippy cups I have say not dishwasher safe. What kind do you all use?

That is a really good idea. I have never even thought about that before!

I cant think of the brand, but it is the kind that has a straw on it. DD likes this better than a cup, and it is still spill-proof. They are dishwasher safe though.
