Washing Machine advice please...

I guess that I should have chimed in with some useful advice in addition to my useless observation.

We've had the same Kenmore washer for 17 years. It has had two somewhat major repairs, but has for the most part been a very reliable machine. We had to have our doohickey replaced once (actually it was call a "wig-wag" switch). And we wore out the mechanical timer switch assembly.

But be forewarned. Not all Kenmore washers are created equal (nor do they all come from the same manufacturer). The first time we made a service call (to a non-Sears service organization), the repairman told us that we had one of the "good" Kenmore washers and that it would be worth it to spend the money to repair. I believe that ours might be one of the Maytag variety of Kenmore, but I don't have any evidence to support my belief.

I hope that shep is successful finding a new washer that is both reliable and not too overly expensive.

Had the washer not been leaking oil i would have considered fixing it....

I jumped ship and got a WHITE Maytag...
I Liked the price, the options and the name...
And I was so limited on my color(its now called bisque, my dryer is almond though...But they are behind a closed door..

What could I say...DW left it up to me....:o

I love Maytag products! Good Luck with your new Machine!

Approximately 2 years ago we called a repairman who, after we told him what it was doing, informed us that it was not worth fixing...it was leaking transmission fluid (I believe that is was he called it). Shep wanted to buy a washer then, but I told him I was using this one until it didn't work anymore.....well the time came. Who would have thought it would break right before a holiday:rolleyes:

At least it broke AFTER i had all the laundry washed and we won't be needing any 'good' clothes til next week...

Now, I hope they don't make too much of a mess taking the old one out... ..
