I just washed a load of good clothes with an ink pen, which of course broke. Any ideas? Papermate's web site recommends Amodex, has anyone used this before. Amodex's site says don't put water on the stain, it can set it.Well, it's a little late for that. I know someone on this board has the answer for me, you guys are the best. Help me save my clothes, please. :guilty:

I am not sure what to do with an entire load of clothes, but when I had ink leak onto one of my shirts, hairspray got it off.

Thanks Shagley, I've read that this works sometimes and other times it actually sets the stain, I don't know why. I'll give it a try though if all else fails. They are some of my favorite clothes. :sad2:

I had great results with Carbona Ink remover-you can find it in the laundry aisle. I also have used goo gone with some success. Good luck.

There's something at Wal-Mart in a package that removes ink. I think that it's near the RIT dyes. You may be able to run the whole load of clothes through the washer with it.

Never tried it on a whole load of clothes, but, incredibly, I've had good luck getting out ink stains with Prell shampoo!

Wouldn't run that through your washer though (SUDS!!)

This will work to get the ink out. Put 1 cup of baking soda and 1 cup of Calgon water softener into your washer and fill the washer with warm water. Agitate this mixture for 2 minutes. Add your clothes and allow them to soak in this for 30 minutes. Then add your usual detergent to the machine and run the clothes through a wash cycle.

Thanks for all the replies. I can't get the store today, so I'll just let these air dry and pick something up tommorrow that will hopefully remove the ink. If anyone else has a suggestion I'm all ears :listen: . Thanks! :sunny:

OHHHH the dreaded ink pen in the wash...YUCK!!!

Dh left an ink pen in his shirt pocket and it exploded on a whole wash full of clothes but I didn't realize it until I dried them all.

After I threatened his life ...I got some hairspray (BIG SEXY HAIR) and soaked each stain with it and let it sit for about an hour. Then I washed them again as normal and it all came out!!!

He was sooooo happy to see it worked as I WAS NOT in a good mood and he knew he was in TROUBLE!!!!

spoonful--I'd be sure to keep these wet, even air drying is drying the fabric and might set the stain even more. I recommend the Calgon water softener/baking soda combo, it has gotten ink off my Mickey apron from a pen I left in the pocket! :teeth:

I was thinking the same thing. Good luck on getting out the stains whatever you wind up trying. One stained item is annoying but a whole load of clothes is a real patience stretcher...ugh. :guilty:

Hairspray will work, but I prefer rubbing alcohol (same solvent, but no sticky lacquer to deal with). It will even work on permanent markers (i.e Sharpies).

I've never had to deal with a whole washer load though....Good luck!

also try Resolve in the aerosol can - got out the sharpie permanent marker that someone threw at my daughter & landed on her hoodie. sprayed & washed & it came right out - wasnt pen ink tho but I do use resolve on all my laundry stains & it works wonderfully.

ouch, I feel your pain. I've used hair spray in the past for ink stains.

DS left crayons in his church pants. I washed and dryed a load of Sunday clothes with the crayons. My dryer sheet looked liked it had been tie-dyed! We were able to scrub out each spot with spray-n-wash. I can laugh about it now. I do a better job of checking pockets now too.

I was also thinking the same thing. Somtimes washing the clothes over again really helps. Use cold water, and let the clothes soak for a bit.
I've been able to get out lots of stuff (like berry stains) by putting the detergent directly on the area. I've also soaked stains with the oxy cleaner stuff.

Two other products that I've used (primarily on carpet stains, but also on clothes) are Nature's Miracle and Spot Shot. Nature's Miracle needs time to work on tough stains, but it is environmentally friendly (at pet stores). If that doesn't work, I have yet to meet a stain that Spot Shot can't remove. It is a strong chemical though, so I use it as a last resort. Nature's Miracle works best though if it is not diluted (i.e. on wet clothes).
