Washer & Dryer Advice Needed

Does anyone have one of those Laundry Centers (washer and dryer stacked on top of one another -- washer on bottom, dryer on top)?

We are looking for a new washer/dryer (after about 20 years) and we looking at these, as it will open up our small laundry room.

They are NOT the compact/apartment ones -- they are full size. In fact, the one we like is a Maytag Neptune. It's a large capacity washer and dryer. This particular one is about $1800 at Sears and Lowe's.

Any opinions?

My father in law has the same setup, large sized, up/down washer dryer...


He got his for about $1100 a few years ago. I want to say its a GE or a Whirlpool

We had a full size stackable by Maytag (the only one they made at the time which was full size) when we lived in a small condo in California. It was wonderful! Never had any problems with it & I think (let's see.....this would have been back in 1985/86), we paid about $900 for it. We sold it with the condo & I understand the person who bought our condo is still using it & very happy with it, nearly 20 years later! Now I have stand alones, by GE which are only 6 years old & I've had my washer serviced twice already! (I guess I was spoiled with my Maytag Stackable!) I should add that I was single then & now I'm married with 2 children & I do a minimum of one to two loads per day! So I'm getting my money's worth out of my GE!

I own the full size stackable by Whirlpool....actually just the dryer currently and I abosultly LOVE it....It is quite expensive but it is wonderful...
