Wash or No Wash?

Hi,
I'm going to put some iron on transfers on some new tshirts. Should I wash and dry them first? And use a fabric softener? Thanks!!!

I wash mine before applying the transfers : No fabric softener

the shirts my family and I have made before were always washed before hand so when you washed thm after they had transfers on the transfer colors wouldnt bleed out onto your shirt or crackle and come off it always worked so I suggest you wash them beforehand.
