Was your garage sale ever a COMPLETE bust?

Had my garage sale yesterday and today. Yesterday, I didn't do too bad. Today, not ONE sale. Not a penny! Oh well, it's all off to the Goodwill tomorrow.

The one I had after my Mom died was a COMPLETE bust. She lives in a deep cul de sac and we had hardly any traffic. I spent more on the newspaper ad than I made at the sale!

I ended up putting ALL of the stuff up on eBay and made a FORTUNE! :bounce:

Yup we have had that happen or else they want to get things for nothing and just walk away....:(

I have tons of stuff that I would love to sell on E-bay...I just don't have the time to sit down and do it. I'm going to be off work for about 2 months for foot surgery in September....maybe I'll get to do it then!

We have a big block sale every year and I usually do pretty good...my worst year was about $75.00. My best year was almost $500.00. This year was a slower day and I made about $225.00. I actually get people coming back every year to buy my kids clothes. This one lady has been coming for years and her daughter loves the clothes she gets from us.

Yup, I'll never to another garage sale (don't like being nickled and dimed) and I just don't have the interest in doing Ebay. I just got back from our Salvation Army Thrift Store where I brought a car load of stuff including DD's crib and book/toys/clothes she's outgrown. I figure it helps those less fortune as well as us (tax writeoff) at the same time.

Once. I hardly made enough to just barely cover the ad. Alot of hard work for nothing. We also live deep in the development and I heard someone say, oh it was so hard to find this place. Also I heard some "nice" neighborhood youths had torn down our signs. I did have a huge success at my moms when she passed away. It was well worth it. I also help chair our school sale once a year. People know me well. I never bargain until l pm. Usually the principal ends up frustrating me as usual by practically giving stuff away. I stick to my guns and the school does very well. We are now in the process of cleaning out fil house. We dont know if we will have a garage sale. More work for us, traveling to another state, staying in hotel etc. The antique guy already came and took what he wants. DH is thinking of asking tenants to do the sale and split it 50/50. Its nothing I would care about so it might be a possibility. I can't imagine getting more than $100 than I would have to subtract the ad. $100 would also be their share. The hotel is $100 a night so its not worth our time etc.

My sister had her first garage sale last fall. It ended up raining all day and only a few people showed and no one bought ANYTHING! She even lost about $20 that she had for change. So, she actually came out BEHIND!

Well... not a complete bust, but had one on May 18 either last year or the year before (getting old, memory failing:p )..... anyhow, snowed that day!! That's surprisingly late snow, even for NH! Think we earned (for the church) about $200 that day.... our previous yard sale earned over $1000!! And to top it all off, we froze all day!...................P

Mine was rained out and I made $2. (Total sales was $32, total expenses, $30.) I'm all for eBay instead!

Our last one was a bust...no sales the first day and only one sale and a bee sting on my tongue the second day:eek: We should have learned from that one last summer but we're getting ready for another one in a couple of weeks.

YES!! Would you believe that I've only had one garage sale, and didn't sell a thing! LOL A couple of friends and I got together and held one.. we chose a bad weekend, plus it was a bit rainy and chilly.. rather funny now. But hey, we had a good time hanging out and chatting! ;)
