Hey you guys, I came back from DLR yesterday and over in tommorrow land i noticed this track with a gold rail i saw it all over Tommorrow land and at the monirail station...was this the people mover? or is this something out?:confused3

It was the people mover and then rocket rods :)

Oh Rocket rods, what a short life you lived. I have heard Rumors, they are bringing the people mover back only it will be the egg shaped cars from the incredibles and also incredibles themed which I think would be neat ;)

that would be AWESOME!!!! I really do wish they'd do something with it :confused3

me too tommrowland looks so empty with nothing up there

Ohhh that would be fun! Incredibles.....I like it. :) I miss the PM, we youtubed it a few weeks ago, the kids thought it was neat but since it was so slow they said they would only ride it a few times. We wached the RRs too and they thought that one would suck. LOL

That would be great! We sat in an original People Mover car at the studios during our ABD. The Rocket Rods were ok for a VERY short ride after a VERY long que area..I think Peter Pan is longer than Rocket Rods were.

Would it provide mimosas? ;) :lmao:

Its Only a rumor at this time though sources say there are plans but have not been budgeted. and with the bad economy, i think it isnt gonna happen any time soon.

Rumor is also that The Orbitor is going back to its original spot.

Disney has magic and great power with various people and agencies but even the mighty Disney must yield to Federal, state, and local government rules, regulations and laws.

For one thing, the tight clearances inside the tunnels and passageways the PeopleMover track passes through would never meet the criteria the DOSH inspectors now use for establishing a safe "ride envelope" for people who might stick their hands or arms outside of their vehicles. The sides of many of those PeopleMover tunnels are are load bearing exterior walls, and there's simply no way to rebuild them without demolishing many existing Tomorrowland structures. If an adult male can reach his arm out and touch something from a PeopleMover car, and there are plenty of places along the track where that is possible, then DOSH will never allow Disney to reopen the ride. Your tax dollars at work here folks.

The only way for the track can be used is if guests are prevented from sticking anything outside the vehicle thus has evolved the Incredibles theory. Some people are pushing for the return of a ride on that track using an Incredibles type of pod that would enclose guests and thus get past the rules. When the Rocket Rods were opened then the old grandfathered clauses and stuff went out the window and Disney had to abide by 1998 laws. Now that Rocket Rods are history they have to abide by current laws.

The Astro Orbiter will not be moving. First and foremost is whether the structure can safely hold the weight of the Astro Orbiter and meet safety stuff including earthquake safety. It left thus it has to meet current guidelines. Also the current ride meets ADA requirements and one ride vehicle could be redone with a side panel that can be opened to let disabled guests transfer to the ride vehicle thus making the ride even more disabled friendly. Why spend all that money to move the Astro Orbiter and have to pay all that money on elevator monitors, repairs, maintenance, permits, etc when they can have the existing ride refurbished. The existing ride could easily be fitted with flying carpets, flying elephants, flying saucers, or semi trucks instead of rockets.

A Peoplemover that traps you inside pods ala The Incredibles sounds boring as heck, IMO. Part of the novelty of the original is that "open air" feeling. TTA at WDW seems to be accomplishing this just fine without any guests getting their arms ripped off.

Also if they were fully contained, that would mean individual air conditioning units for each pod. Not very practical.

First of all the TTA has been in active service since 1975. That means it can be grandfathered or whatever based on the 1975 codes. It does not have to abides with some modern laws because it is still an active ride.

Second the Incredibles pod was one suggestion and there are other suggestions out there. Based on modern laws of 2010 the ride would have to have vehicles that keep guests from sticking anything outside of the ride vehicle at all times. If a guest can reach out an arm and touch the walls then it is considered not safe even though limbs are not removed. DLR cannot widen the tunnels as often they are part of the building.

I hope you can find an open air vehicle that meets the requirements of the laws in existence in 2010 so that we could get that peoplemover back

Don't laugh at me, but.........WHAT was the people mover? I have always heard of the infamous people mover at DL, but I have no concept of what it was...I picture just a moving sidewalk of sorts. Just curious:)

I think that is silly about the wall touching rule. Idiots ruin things for the rest of us. Those silly jerks that think it's "cool" to touch the walls, try to hop vehicles, throw things at people etc...they make me sick and uber annoyed!! Seriously the ride is fine...people just need to learn to sit and behave. It's not hard...my 2 yr old can do it! :)

As far as the astro orbiter is concerned I heard they were closing it. They hope to move it however either way it will be closed and dismantled? ADA or not right now the ride is MUCH better on the roof. Who flies a rocket three feet above the ground? I think that is why the ride in WDW is quite a bit more popular...I never understood why they put it down there to begin with.

My vote is for an open air people mover like at WDW. Its a classic attraction that deserves to be at Disneyland in a classic format.

It's funny how such a slow simple ride is missed so much by so many (Myself included). In a way, it was kind of like a futuristic version of the skyway that was on a track instead of a cable and complemented the skyway nicely. The loading area concept was always a bit exciing to me as a kid since you and the peoplemover were in motion while boarding and exiting. The way that the cars weaved in and out of the different ride buildings always gave me a bit of a behind the scenes feel that helped make it special. Being able to see the inside of Space Mountain was a cool way to preview the ride. All in all, it really fit nicely in Tomorrowland and really needs to come back in one form or another (My vote is for the Incredibles Pods that have been discussed :thumbsup2 )
