Was I in the wrong?

You were fine. I see random coupons on cat litter. Milk. Salad dressing. Of course. Same brand but not the style I like. I remove the coupon, read it to make sure it works with the one I do want and if it does, use it.

Sometimes, whoever slaps those coupons on, slaps them on the first few that are in the front.

You did nothing wrong. Given the season, who knows if this woman was having a bad time, and things escalated to the point of blowing up over a coupon.

You can’t tell people not to respond. That’s not how the internet works. But whatever you got your dollar off. Congrats or whatever. You got a few pats on the back.
You can't tell people that they can't tell people either, Donald!

"Have a nice night, Donald!"
"You can't tell me what to do!!!"

Editing to remove. Somehow my response to another post ended up here!

I've seen stockers putting coupons specifically on the ones that are getting closer to expiration date or aren't selling for whatever reason, if that's the case with your item then by taking the coupon off of the other cheese ball you have now made it less appealing to someone else, which invalidates what the coupon is for but NOT a big deal and nothing to scream over. I'd assume that lady was having a terrible holiday season and decided to take it out on you. Sorry.

if store staff was putting coupons on things, that is a totally different scenario than the OP. The type of coupon she is referring to is called a ā€œpeelieā€ and is put in by the manufacturer before shipping the stuff out to the store. The store will then send the coupon back to the manufacturer after it has been redeemed and will be reimbursed. Since the OP bought the item specified on the peelie, she did nothing wrong. I feel pretty certain the cheese balls with the coupon were just from a different run at the factory and the coupons have nothing to do with the expiration date.

Oh good grief. I asked a legit question to something I initially felt I was right about, but dwelled on it and had second thoughts. I was verifying that it was acceptable to do what I did.

Of course I cannot tell anyone not to respond. I said why respond when you have already said reading this and responding was waste of your time and energy? That is totally not the same as telling someone they cannot respond. If you don't see that, then we will have to agree to disagree.

I wish you a good evening.

Please don't worry about that poster. He seems to enjoy picking at people.

You did nothing wrong at all. The older woman was completely wrong.
It frustrates me to no end when people get up in other people’s business. I absolutely hate it! Before Covid I’d get random people (usually men) at the store telling me I needed to smile. That never put me in a good mood, I can tell you!

Yesterday a woman came up to my sister in law to ask why her daughter wasn’t wearing a mask. Her daughter is 10 months old and was in a stroller. She can’t even walk, and she’s supposed to be wearing a mask?!?
I have many other examples, but my point is strangers need to mind their own business! Unless they’re coming up to give a compliment or a kind word, they need to keep their mouths shut!

People have lost their minds. You were correct to not engage with her. Just quickly state your case, like you did and move on. Anything else would have resulted in a scene.

I had a lady yell at me in a drugstore because I picked up an item, read the label, decided I didn't want it, and placed it back. She yelled that I "touched it" without gloves and put it back and that I was spreading germs. She was trying to embarrass me. I just smiled and told her I had recently sanitized my hands when I walked in the door, then I walked away. Not worth the energy it would take to argue.

Ok, I am feeling better. The way that lady let into me was such a shock. I haven't had that happen to me since I was a kid.

I stood my ground. But if you are dweller, like I am, your mind plays the scenario over again and naturally I started second guessing myself.

You are fine. I would have said if the person was a man, it could have been my dad. I swear sometimes he goes shopping just to be aggravated!:rotfl2:

I've done what you did many times. As long as the coupon matches, no problem.
