Those who haven't experienced Dis simply can't understand the fascination that the vast majority of "fanatics" such as ourselves possess. And those who have been and have had a bad experience, for whatever reason, also shake their head at the prospect of us returning again and again. And guess what? My care factor is roughly zero. Que sera sera...
I've got a mate who has been to Bali 14 times over the years. Me? I'd rather stick bamboo into the quick of my fingernails. But good luck to him. He loves the place and it's his right to spend his hard earned in whichever way it gives he and his family most pleasure.
Which is exactly the way I feel about My WDW adventures....

I gave up a long time ago. We visit family in Canada on a regular basis and it always includes Disney. They just don't get it. I haven't even told them that my upcoming solo trip to visit them includes a stopover at DLR on the way home.

My friends here just asked in wonder "what will you do there on your own?" They definately don't get it.

I'm certainly not a Disney fanatic - next year will be my first visit to Disneyland in 24 years. I do love Disney in general though and I am loving planning my holiday with everyone on the Disboards. I'd never give anyone a hard time over where they wanted to holiday (heck my Mum is going to Zimbabwe as part a holiday she's currently on and I'm a weeny bit concerned about that particular country). I think people like to knock the fact you go anywhere more than once. I say if you like something that brings you great joy you go as many times as you like. Somehow I know we'll be rebooking onboard the Disney Wonder for our next Disney adventure... just won't tell hubby.

I have this too with my step mum.

This is the 5th time i am going to the usa and she says the same thing.

sometimes i feel like telling her what i think!! Arg it bugs me.

And anyways she cant talk anyways she has been to NZ about 10 times in 5 years!

I hear this too. And since I love America in general, I always hear my fellow Aussies knock it, which I find funny since most of them have never been.

My father passed away suddenly last year, so my motto is now to live life to the fullest. My dad was always waiting for the right time to do things...So yeah, if it means we go to Disney every year or two and I get my American fix, so be it....

CraftyMama, I so know what you mean! We're just starting to plan our 4th trip to the US since 2005 and I am just waiting for the first "You're going to America AGAIN!!??" You are so right that a lot of people make judgements who know next to nothing about the place - so many Aussies seem to think the USA is Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and New York and have no idea how much the rest of the country has to offer.

The strange thing is that when our kids were little we went to Queensland year after year...and nobody ever said anything about that!

We have been to a couple of other ( wonderful!) places in the intervening years but on our last holiday I just couldn't get past the feeling that I'd just be that bit MORE excited if we were travelling in the USA....

DH has had a cancer scare this year so as far as we're concerned everyone else can just stick their opinions - we're going to do what we love and we're going to enjoy every single minute.

Ah, the ol' 'you're going AGAIN?' talk

At least my Disney fix this year is Disneyland Paris, and it's apparently more acceptable than WDW, though I've not really pointed out that I'm spending 3 days in DLP and only 2 days in Paris itself.

I like going to America because it is soooo easy, I have a job that is pretty mentally draining most of the time and when on holidays I like the brainless don't have to think about anything aspect that going to America allows, no language issues, Disney/Universal everything is familiar but always something new, so many timeshares in Orlando means upmarket accommodation is ridiculously cheap outside of any US holiday season. Flights plus accommodation in Florida for 2 weeks usually is around $2000AU, this 3 week UK/Europe, just the main flight is near $2000AU, probably another $1000 on trains/flights/cars, and then accommodation on top of that!

this will be our first trip to the usa, and our first DLR trip, but I got 'the talk' from my parents... 'why are you spending so much money to fly over there, why not just holiday here, or in NZ, why are you doing 'kid stuff' at DLR and Universal?'

my response was that if I put if off, it'll never happen cause life gets in the way, and that this is my dream. they have been to thailand and a bunch of other places cause that's their dream, but mine was to see Disney. my mum is still trying to talk me out of it.

plus, i explained that 3 weeks in america is cheaper than a 3 week holiday here in australia, the only difference is airfares, and that's not really part of our 'holiday budget'.

we leave in less than 2 weeks and i think my mum still thinks she can talk me out of it, but we're booked, we're packed and we're excited

OK - my thoughts are that these people generally only make these comments to make conversation, its like "when are you getting married?" "when are you having kids" etc -its the only input they can give

Usually they are not at home stewing about where you are going on holiday.

For me, we have been to WDW now, although it is a great value holiday, once you take out the airfaire - I dont think we will go again there are too many other places in the world to see -

i think that until you have been u dont understand. my partner is similar but i am hoping that the magic will overwhelm her when we finally get to go in 4 years with the kids.
