My family and I happened to be vacationing at Disney during the gay days....we had no idea this even went on....i was just wondering if anyone else thought it was a little out of hand.....for example, the sexually explicit shirts??

Get ready for flames! I specifically avoid Disney those days- the first week of June (of course, when only 1/4 of the country is out of school and the very best week to go of the entire year for my family).

Really annoys me, which I am sure is so not politically correct, but that is fine with me.

I have small kids, and I don't want to have to explain it. So we pull ours out of school in September instead.

there's a really disturbing video on you tube....showing gay men in sexual positions and disgusting shirts....all at disney.....just made me wonder

We went last year, and it was fine. We never saw anything that was promiscuous, and my kids didn't notice a thing. We were even at AK on their designated day there. My DH and DS (7 at the time) rode Primevil Whirl with two gay men, and my DS thought nothing of it. They were just two nice guys. I can't remember what we were going to say, but we did have something planned if either child asked.

I heard the gay days are a lot of fun. I'm straight but I would still love to go sometime. I would imagine disney would ban overly offensive shirts, I may be wrong but I would hope so, no one should be wearing offensive stuff. But the fact that they're gay and there having a good time shouldn't damage anyones vaca.

I have never been during gay days either, so anything I have to say is only an opinion, not observation. I have, however, seen offensive t shirts, numerous times, worn by heterosexual people., at disney. seems there are obnoxious people from all ilks of life. (why would anyone walk around with a tshirt with a blatant swear word on their chest? when worn at the bar I work at, they are told to leave, or turn their shirt inside out)
I have friends who are gay who never behave indecently, but I know a heterosexual couple who can't keep their hands off each other in public. decent people keep their bedroom antics in private, and others don't, no matter their sexual orientation.
I would venture to guess that indecent behaviour is no more rampant during "gay days" than at any other time. I can't believe how often I hear people (hetero couples) blatantly swearing (you know, the really "bad" words) with little children around.... or... in front of their OWN children!
all you can do is raise your own children to be respectful, and teach them that, in this world , they will encounter those who do not behave properly, and point out how foolish they look or sound.

I went in 2003 and didn't even notice in was Gay Days.

The only time I did notice was when me and my brother went to a Nightclub in Pleasue Island and it was full of guys dancing together.

It was that night that I decided to "come out" to my brother :) He was so cool and just said "tell me something I didn't know!"

So I have very happy memories of Gay Days, even though I didn't know they were on when I arrived.

We were there this year during Gay Days and didn't notice much of anything. Our last day in Disney was Saturday, June 2nd and we had to spend it at the MK. :goodvibes Just couldn't leave without seeing the castle one more time even though we were there 11 days and at the MK for four.

Anyway, that day happened to be their designated park day for MK. We didn't arrive until after 11 because we had an early breakfast at Chef Mickey's and then we had to return to the hotel and finish packing. By the time we returned, it was very busy. My kids never noticed anything and we saw lots of red shirts. Some were just plain red shirts with no writing, some were "official" gay days shirts but with nothing offensive. Now, we did see several red shirts with very insinuating meanings. Mind you, it wasn't anything "bad" but the adults knew what the shirt meant. My kids, 11 and 6, didn't have a clue.

It never occurred to me to "report" anyone to Disney as being vulgar. I guess if we had seen something really obscene then we would have. Luckily my kids were so into the rides and everything they didn't notice what was going on around them.

There was this really nice guy who lived locally that I talked to on the way from the TTC to the monorail. When we were waiting in line for the monorail he even made sure that we knew that we could ride in the front. I was too embarassed to tell him that I already knew. :rolleyes1 When we saw him later that day, my DS said, "Oh look Mom, there's the new friend you made this morning."

Anyway, we've traveled during this time before and I think it's a great time to visit.

We were there this year. While we did notice one guy in a very short skirt, that was the only thing that I really paid any attention to. DH was very uncomfortable the entire time, but that's just how he is. DD7 didn't notice a thing. She did read the "Zip a Dee Doh" that was written huge on some shirts, but she didn't know to read the back that said, "Zip a Dee Gay!" Honestly, if DH wasn't so uncomfortable, I don't think that it was any big deal.

Not really. If you ever go to Disney during senior week, when all the HS's around the country send their senior to WDW for the senior trip, you see much more inappropriate (IMO) behaviour. I've had to tell quite a number of young heter couples in the pool to "get a room" because they were just about having $%x in the pool. I won't even begin to go into the language we heard while standing in line.
I'll take gay week over that week any time. My kids don't read tee shirts but they definitely understood all the 4 letter words flying out of teenagers mouths.

My fiance and I went last year and the only shirt we saw that was border line had a picture of a rooster and a lollipop and if you are creative in naming these two items you can figure out what it meant. Actually I forgot it was gay days at one time and put on a red shirt when it got cooler in the evening and although I was treated differently by some of the women, I did not even feel uncomfortable. I thought it was one of the best times of year that we had been to the park and would love to go back again. I have to agree with what someone said earlier, that the behavior of teenagers is more blatant and offensive than any of the people we saw during gay days. They were respectful, teenagers do not often tend to be such.

From everything I have heard and read about Gay Days I understand that there is not much to worry about.

Most folks report that the out community visiting Disney during that time frame are simply happy to be there with their friends and family and the behavior is tame.

I've seen some lovely  groping done by teenage boys and girls that made me uncomfortable as a parent.

Remember that Disney does nothing to sponsor "Gay Days" - its just like any other group getting together and deciding to go to Disneyworld. Its your decision if you want to share your space with people at Gay Days, obviously you don't need to go - it isn't a hidden event and its big enough that - even as an "unofficial" event its listed in a lot of guidebooks.

I was down there, but not in the parks, I was at a conference, and I've been there in previous years. Some of the conference attendees were at "Gay Days Hotels" and some of them were not at all comfortable. But it was more of their problem than the gay people creating a problem. They couldn't point to "naughty" behavior - it was the existance that was making them uncomfortable.

Personally, I'd go over Gay Days before I'd go when the cheerleaders are there. Gay Days when I was there was a peice of cake - not terribly noticable, a few people perhaps "acting inappropriately for public" and perhaps a few more doing what I believe is appropriate (holding hands in public) but you may feel is "too much." The cheerleaders was filled with unsupervised, underdressed teenaged girls with their boyfriends hands up the back of their shorts, teenagers smoking, and foul language. I'd rather explain to my kids why two grown up men have given each other a kiss than why that girl who isn't a grown up is smoking and why that boy has his hand up her shorts.

We were there during Gay Days this year. We didn't see anything inapproriate. The most appalling thing I saw was two men holding hands... One of them wasn't wearing shoes!:cutie: . I couldn't believe someone walking through the parks with no shoes on. That just freaks me out. Other than that, there was no inapproriate behavior.

My family and I were also there during that week this year, and I agree that we hardly noticed...except everyone we saw had shoes on! :lmao:

I was there during Gay Days this year, and while I didn't see any behavior that was any worse than we've seen on any other trip, I did see some fairly offensive shirts. Some of which had such bad language I was shocked that they were still in the parks. The shirts were from both sides of the issue, though. In fact, some of the most offensive ones I saw actually had ANTI-gay sentiments on them.

Other than the huge number of red shirts and a larger number than usual of suggestive saying on shirts (most of which would go right over a child's head) the only way I could really tell it was Gay Days was Pleasure Island. It was much different than usual. The humor at the Adventurers Club also seemed to reflect the theme of the week moreso than usual.

I would probably avoid Pleasure Island during Gay Days in the future simply because it was much more crowded than I have seen it before. Of course it may be crowded often and I've just lucked out and hit the less crowded times in the past.

How bad can these shirts be?? I bought a shirt at the Disney Store that says TRAMP in big red sparkly letters. In very small print it says "he's a" before TRAMP. Could this be offensive to some? You need to be very close to me to read the other words but you can see tramp from a mile away :)

I'd love to go during gay days one year and I would most definitely bring my kids!

I went years ago with my Mom during Gay Days and didn't realize it until it was almost over.

I agree that I'll take a park full of happy and excited adults over happy and excited teens ANY day!

Didn't see inappropriate behavior, but saw 2 disgusting shirts. I won't say what they said, but needless 2 say my sister had to try to explain to her 6 year old daughter what they meant.
