Warriors Irish Eyes are a Smiling

Hi all! I wanted to come introduce myself as a new team member. My name's Amanda. I'm 38 and have 3 little ones at home. I work full-time and love to use my kids and my job as an excuse to NOT exercise!!!
I've been working on the C25K since the first week of January. I finally made it to w5d2. My DH and I decided we needed motivation so we just registered for the Disney half-marathon in January. I think we're a little insane since neither of us has ever run a race but I'm pretty excited to do this!
We were without power 5 full days this week (just got electricity back last night) so I won't get caught up with everyone here yet but I'm excited to join!

Amanda

Welcome Amanda! Glad you've joind in here. You will definitely have fun doing that Disney half!

Pam, Subbing in a HS PE class. :worship: That is something fun.

Kathy, we'll see you in FL for WnD. DH and I are also doing the relay. He gets the 5 and I get the 8.

Carrie, yay for signing up for Martian. I look forward to a mini meet for sure. I will do my best to take it easy with the b2b half weekends pledging to try to keep at the back of the pack and praying that means there is a back of the pack!

Have a fun training weekend everyone!

I got 6 miles in on St. Patricks Day and it took 1hr/15mins, so I was happy with my time. Glad to read so many took part in the challenge. Next up for me is the Biggest Loser Resort on April 25th.!:cool1::thumbsup2

Happy Celebration Saturday Warriors!!

Spending the day down in "O-Town" for a winterguard competition that my DW is in. I got in 10 miles this morning. I am trying to make sure to stay hydrated while out, making sure I carry some water with me. Seems to be working.

My low back pain is another matter entirely. It's becoming extremely acute during my LR's. Any Dr. consult has invariably drifted into the "spinal fusion" discussion, which I quickly quash. No major cuttin' on my backside. Soooooo, I have manmaged to get an appt. with a new Dr up north this friday. Hopefully there are other less invasive options. Chronic back pain really (insert bad word here)!!!

Not much else to report from here. It's warm!! FINALLY!!! (hydrate hydrate hydrate!!!!!)

Hey Carrie - I'm not trying to hide from you. Really. But unfortunately I am not the most outgoing guy, & I really find it somewhat uncomfortable to go up to people I have never met in person & just strike up a conversation. It's a flaw on my part, but I promise to try to crawl out of my shell in the future!! ;);)

Hey Warriors, how are you all doing? I've been finding it difficult to get here to post but I am REALLY going to try to do better. I promise Carrie! ;-)

I have been training for the Flying Pig on May 2 and it's going well. Today or tomorrow I will be doing 8 miles. I did pull a muscle last week so I took a week off to let it heal. I am trying to decide if I am crazy to want to squeeze another 1/2 in before the Flying Pig. It's a half in New Hampshire and I don't have a NH medal yet. I'm not getting any younger and I would like to do it now, not later. I will decide after I do my 8 miles.

I finally hit 70 pounds weight lost. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and it feels great. During this journey I have come to realize exercise will have to play an important part in my future if I am to keep it off. That's why it's going to be very important to come here for inspiration. I MUST do better!

Have a great weekend Warriors!

Good Saturday all you lovely Warriors...

With most of my races complete (Halfs that is) until September's Disneyland Half, I have just taking it easy. I do come by and read your posts so don't think I am not paying attention Warriors.
I see we have more members being added and of course that always makes it harder to keep up. So now I think there is 18 Warriors. I know not everyone is posting and some have not come back at all, so not sure if they are still interested in posting.

Erica: Glad you so enjoyed your first Disney Race at the Princess. Nice race for a first and I did really like each corral starting 7 min apart as I think it helped to thin out the crowd of people (even though it was still a bit packed but less than Jan). Princess is a different feel thanthe big Marathon weekend that is for sure. Hope you shredded quad is doing better.

Lily: Good luck with your racing and yes, take it easy

Kathy: I will see you at the W&D, most likely doing the whole thing 13.1 miles. Are you thinking of doing the Half in January? My sister and her husband adopted from China. They got a girl and when they went to get her she was 9 months old and now she is 4. COngrats to them!

Jim: Nice job getting out in the 56 degree surf - COLD!! But, never to fear, then warm temps are just around the corner. Spinal fusion??? YIKES, I hope you get an answer and get to feeling better.

Pam: You are ever so consistent with your workouts, great job!

Amanda: :welcome: Glad we will be seeing you in January for the Half, I will be there at the Half again! It is a great race for doing your first Half!

AFM: I did the IWISH 5K on TUesday and just trying to "take it easy" and do miles that I feel comfortable with. I just don't want to get "burned out". Next Half isn't until September and then one in Oct and possible one in Nov and then Jan is just around the corner again. So I really do want to work on joggin more and speeding up my time. I am hoping to get my 2:45 at DL and then maybe even a 2:44. heehee. Foot is better and the tendonitis in the foot is much better. ITB is better and hammie is doing better. Just want to let those have a break as well.
I finally made it back to the dump!!!! :cool1::rotfl::woohoo:. I am now again Mount Trashmore Girl and I posted photos from my 3.50 miles there from Thursday night over on FB. Again if you are on FB, feel free to friend request me - Tracy Goggin.
Tricia (from the DDDs) and I are going to do a 10K in April, the gumbo limbo turtle trot or something like that. It's in Boca Raton.

Monte?? Hi!! Have you been placed on the Warriors?

Have a great one all!!!

Racey Tracy

Thanks for the welcome! I'm reading everyone's accomplishments and feel a bit overwhelmed. :worship:
My exciting news is that my MIL is lending us her treadmill so I can train. (She doesn't use it and she wants to get an invite to Disney in January!) My DH picked it up today and it's fully functional and sitting in my basement playroom. This will make it SO much easier for me! I can only get to the gym 2-3 days per week and now I can train at home the rest of the time.

Amanda

Hi Warriors

Lily: Congrats on your half today! It's always such a surprise to see what state you're in each weekend. :goodvibes

Amanda: Yay on the treadmill! I totally can't use one for more than 3 miles or I go batty, but I can understand how they're helpful. :rotfl2:

Tracy: :bday: !!! ITA on the not burning out between events, thing. I just had to take 6 weeks off after the Goofy because I couldn't even stand the idea of putting my shoes on after 20 weeks of hardcore training. Sometimes I think it's best to take a mental break as well as physical break if you don't have an event immediately scheduled!

Jim: :goodvibes Ugh, back pain is never good. I hope your problem solves itself without any need for cutting!

Kate: How are you feeling? Aren't you heading to WDW in a few weeks, now, you lucky little thing? :rotfl:

I had one of my favorite long "runs" ever yesterday, even though most of it was walking. My Joints in Motion training team (for the Arthritis Foundation) met in downtown Redmond (the Microsoft capital of the world, and about 12 miles east of Seattle) to run along a gorgeous river trail. I was not doing much running at all, as I couldn't keep my heart rate below 165 while running, but Sasha and I did a fantastic 6 miles along the river, with the spring sunshine and the daffodils blooming and the birds singing, and some wonderful JIM people to hang out with. And then I got a Starbucks Dark Cherry Mocha (full-fat milk, yes I would like the whipped cream :rotfl:) afterwards. :cloud9: It's runs like that that remind me why I get up at 6:00 on a Saturday to go out there... even if I'm not really running so much anymore.

I'm so much less worried about my running now, after having my ultrasound this week. I was concerned that I wasn't putting on enough weight (because I've only put on about 5 lbs so far) and that the running could be causing problems. But the ultrasound confirmed that my baby is right on target as far as size goes, and that it is a "jumper" as the ultrasound tech put it. :lmao: On the flip side, I was also frustrated by my inability to run at all, after having just finished the Goofy in January (at 11 weeks pregnant). Now, it's really hard to care either way - I'm going to get my miles in on my own time, and I'm not going to break any speed records along the way. :rotfl2:

And, if anyone is interested, here's the little future-WISHer. :lmao: Gender is still a mystery (on purpose, though I think the tech saw it and might have let it slip by accident! :confused3 ).

What a cutie! Congrats Sarah!!!
I listened to the Dis podcasts while I run so that I remember why I'm doing this! :lmao:

Amanda

Yes Tracy I will be doing the 1/2 in January and also the 5K. The Wine and Dine should be interesting also. I am only doing the first half of the relay and then DH will do the rest.

Just did 5.1 miles over at my mother -in-laws before the rains came. We walked along a canal by Coral Springs, Fl. It was a great quiet walk.

Kathy

Weird week on tap for me so I'm going to try to get my long run in this morning before a half day subbing at one of the elementary school! - Just have to get to the Y early!

Sarah of course we would want to see your ultrasound- that is absolutely amazing!!! So so pleased everything is going well and hope this relaxes you a little bit. Oh my word it's so exciting!!! I think you're attitude to run/walk is perfect right now- if you feel it great, if not you can rest up. Yep off to WDW on 28th April for a week and can't wait. The sun will be amazing!

Amanda Welcome!!!! It's lovely to meet you and believe me there is nothing better to motivate you than a Disney race- my very first was the minnie marathon 15km. At that time I would never have dreamt that i could run a marathon so believe in yourself and I really do think that you can achieve anything :)

Barbara!!!! it's so good to see you again and you have done brilliantly with that loss!!!! What an inspiration. Hope the muscle's holding up and your training goes well. keep us posted.

Pam and Kathy I can't believe how consistent you two are! Fab!

Tracy very happy to read all of your injuries are starting to sort themselves out and you are once again a trash monster! :rotfl:

Jim eek on your back- i'll keep my fingers crossed that the next dr comes up with a good alternative. Oh and i totally relate to your shyness at events. At each WISH meet I've been to I've managed to sneak in for a photo and then sneak off- this year was back to the expo for more shopping  it would be fab to see you one day!

Monte another newbie? Either way well done on the virtual race- they really are perfect aren't they.

Lily did you have a wonderful training weekend?

Me Finally shaken off evil tonsils so feeling a whole lot better thanks. Work is still difficult, but currently enjoying a day off so not going to think about that! I've done 2 more 3.1mile runs outside including a fairly decent hill right into the centre of Chester (the city where I live). It's funny looking back a couple of years i would rather have died than have anyone see me running, especially in tights! Trying to increase miles very slowly to prevent any more injuries so may do a 4 at the weekend. ergh. bye bye for now :thumbsup2

Good morning Warriors!

The 8 miles I had planned for last weekend turned into 5 but they are done and I felt great.
I won't be doing the 1/2 in New Hampshire, 3 weeks prior to the Flying Pig, after all. My husband took me to drive the course and there is too much of a risk for injury. 3.5 miles are on gravel road which is hilly and full of potholes, not a smooth stretch anywhere. The next 3.5 miles are on a paved road with one hill after another. If it was after the Pig I would go for it but I can't risk turning an ankle or pulling a muscle. Bummer.....maybe next year.
Today I have 45 minutes of cross training planned.
Keep up the great work everyone!

8.9 miles total today. 1.5 during a Dr's appointment (the Podiatrist put some new insoles in my shoes & said "go try 'em out, but make sure you come back"), & then another 7.4 this afternoon.

MAYBE my feet are getting better, but the back still s****. Hopefully answers are forthcoming.

I'm running in a "little" 1/2 in 3 weeks up in Ohio. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. Long range forecasts are not encouraging yet, but hey, I ran at Disney World this year. I can run in anything!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Hi Warriors! Took a rest day yesterday and today. It was a great half event. Tomorrow I'll hope to walk t stertch things out a bit.

Tracy, glad you are catching your breath here and there. Hope you're feeling good with what you are able to get in and that it is pain free.

Sarah, seems to me that you're not losing weight so that must be a good thing and little Pudge is growing so that must be a good thing. You will have a small baby and gaining "only" 5 pounds can't be something to worry too much over yet.

Kate, so the tonsils are better. You still have them?

Jim, sorry about the back. Hope you can good info from the next opinion.

All the rest of us Warriors, keep at it! Forgive me for not acknowledging everyone.

Take time to enjoy.

Hi my fellow Warriors!

I am here and reading along. Just haven't had too much to say since the Princess. Still sad that it is over. Looking for a new goal. The Wine and Dine looks like a GREAT race. But I may have to talk my husband into it. We'll see. I'd love to do it with girlfriends again, but not sure the rest of my family will tolerate me going to Disney AGAIN without them! :rotfl2:

Jim--hope those feet are holding up. And hey, if you are REALLY willing to run in *anything* come on up to Maine! I ran the Frozen-as-a-Popsicle Half. It was 9 degrees! NINE!

Sarah--Oh! That brings back memories! So wonderful! Enjoy this time.

Barb--good call on the NH race. I am not doing it either. I have three friends who have injured themselves on various runs in that area.

Hi to all our new Warriros! WELCOME!

AFM--I PRd a 15k on Sunday. It was the first time in MONTHS that I really had a good, pain-free run! 91 minutes and change. Felt wonderful! And gave me back some confidence. My Princess timess was horrific, which I knew it would be as I was doing it with friends who were walkers, but still, I had a slower time than I even anticipated. I am looking to PR it next year.

My short term goals are to PR a 5k this Spring and then get a good qualifying 10k in the Fall to set up me up for a good corral placement for either the Wine and Dine or the Princess. I don't think I'll be doing anything greater than 10k for a while. But you never know...

Good Morning Warriors-

4 miles after school today then a local 5K saturday. I hope my back feels up to it after standing all day Friday baking pies for the evening fish fry (where I'll also be standing in all probabliity.0 Stand is so much harder on my back than running or walking.

Amanda - Welcome!!! Love teh WDW podcasts during trianing. WDW was the only thing that could get me to run a amrathon. BTW, I started from zero here 5 years ago and have now done 5 full marathons, 11 halfs ans 5 tri's. The key is, though, I started at zero. NO need ot be intimidated. Do you haave a training plan? I highly recommend Marathoning for Mortals by JOhn Bingham.

Pam - Ugh, standign all day is teh worst! Hope it's not too hard on you!

Barb - 70 pounds? You are amazing!!! Can't wait to wsee you at Pig!

Lily - can't wait ofr our Minnie meet! Martian has no time limit on teh half so there are a lot of walkers. You will eb fine. (Hope I'm not harping on you about the races, I just worry)

Jim - While I really do want to meet you, I love giving you a hard time! ;) After my first marathon, I got my dh to agree to go to 1 WISH meet. OMG, scheduling a social event durign WDW timen was unheard of and he is not social. However, he loves IWSHers and al lteh fiends we made now. Talking about your passion for runnign and DIsney has completely changed him. I do hope you'll givve it a try.

Sarah - Awesome pic!!!!!!! Thasnk os much! Your attitude on running is great. Just do what you can.

Erika - Woo hoo for teh pain free run!!!!!

Kate - SO glad you are feeing better! Glad you are not ashamed ot be out in tights these days too! :upsidedow

Kathy - SOUnds like a beautiful place for a work out!

Tracy - Hoping that not having a half until fall will help you heal! :goodvibes

DId 5 Friday. My legs don't feel like they work any more. Maybe it's teh core adn swim adn my body adjusting. Maybe it's teh new orthodics. Maybe it's my weight. Ugh. Hope I figure it out soon! DId ok Princes, although slow, but a half seem sa long way right now and I am 3 weeks out.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome and the inspiration! It is SO helpful to hear that many of you started where I am now and you've gone so far. Amazing!!! :worship:
I managed 2.3 miles in 35 minutes today. It was painful and I felt like quitting but I did it. My legs are really hurting this week! 3 more weeks of the couch to 5k and I get my new sneakers. I think I can...
I may have found a 5k to start me off. I picked up a postcard at the gym for a 5k at the Bronx Zoo in about a month. I need to check the calendar for that weekend and decide (with 3 kids and 2 working parents our weekends tend to be hectic!).

Amanda

Good morning Warriors from here in soggy rainy Bloomington. I was supposed to run 4 miles this morning as I continue to train for my May 1st marathon. Hopefully I will be able to get it done after work. This Saturday is big test for me. I have a 21 miler on my schedule. So far this month I have run 92 miles.

Hope everyone is doing well and healing from their injuries. Congrats to all who finished the Princess 1/2 & I looked forward to meeting some of you at Disneyland in September for the 1/2. Anyone here considering buying the new annual pass for both parks? We are considerng it, but have not decided as of yet.

I hope everyone has great day and good luck for whatever event you are training for.
:yay:
Stan
