Warriors Bouncing into Spring

Good Morning Warriors,

Thanks for the ideas on the shoulder- Chiropractor pounded me back in to shape but I'm not sure the cure wasn't worse than the disease (at least for the next 2 days). My heating pad has been my friend. I did get runs in on Wednesday - regular 4 miles and a local 10 K yesterday (who ever said Indiana was flat hasn't run this 10K). More hills than Country Music half in half the distance. Although I hear the pig is hilly too so maybe it's a good thing. I have another visit with the chiropractor tuesday after school hopefully that will be the end of it. I'm concentrating (as much as I can when I run- I tend to be alittle ADD while running for some reason) on keeping the shoulders down and it appears to help.

Jim- so sorry for your news- Good luck with the plan
Sarah Rose- congrats on the new house- I'm glad the tub is coming in handy although sorry you need it. (I saw several years ago - so don't know where anymore- a "running girdle" for pregnancy maybe something like that would help with support)
Amanda- congratulations- you CAN do it- even with sick kiddoes- sorry the kiddoes were sick
Kate,TigerLily, and the rest of the Warriors- thanks for the ideas on the shoulder have a great week!

Amanda ergh sick and stuff is not nice! Great job getting your longest run in!

me looks like mum and dad won't be flying out tomorrow unless a magically large wind comes along to help us out! Looks like a reschedule but no idea what that will mean yet.
Went for a run yesterday on tired legs- whoo it makes a difference.... or i could blame the ash in the air :rotfl: no really can't!

How is everyone else doing? Just saw Carrie's leaving WDW :( boo.

5.6 miles yesterday. Did not feel that bad. Not great, but not bad. I had some water rescue training on Saturday that kinda' pounded my back & legs, so that was the cause of my discomfort. Today, no problem.

What's going on Warriors?

I've been keeping up with my low miles training up until a couple weeks ago and my long runs have went to 7 and 9 the last two weeks. I think I'm going to end up doing a half Marathon if it doesn't sell out before I attempt 11 this weekend.

Kind of late in the game to post in April, but wanted to stop by and say hello!

Hey hey, popping in to report I'm slowly managing to change my hate for mornings! Went to an early morning spin class yesterday and oh my word it was good. Although who on earth thought it was a good idea to do a pressup on a bike?!?! need to have a word! Off to run with the beginner group later.

Also looks like my holiday's back on- mum and dad flew out of manchetser yesterday after a 7 hour delay as the plane was broken! Nothing to do with the ash.... apparently. I did not sleep a wink until got a text from them saying they had landed!

Anyone here run in Nikes? I've been advised to try Structure Triax but have always had Asics. Any opinion?

Anyone here run in Nikes? I've been advised to try Structure Triax but have always had Asics. Any opinion?

I run in Nikes! I don't know the Structure Triax (I don't pronate AT ALL so I wear the most neutral shoes I can find!) but I have worn the Moto Max and now the Pegasus for the last couple years. Nikes tend to run narrow (which is why I prefer them - I have very narrow feet) and I find that the arches seem to be a bit farther back than a few other brands - I think Asics and Nike are similar in that, though. I also find that my Nike shoes don't last nearly as long as Asics, though. Mine start to go right before I hit 300 miles, and are definitely done by 350. But, at least the models I wear, they are a bit cheaper than the Asic Nimbus (by about $50 at the store where I get my shoes) so it seems to balance out in the end.

I'm still getting in my long runs on Saturday with the Arthritis Foundation (including a punishing trail run up a mountain last week!) and getting in some miles during the week. I keep thinking that I'm not doing ANYTHING during the week, but then realize that the 45-60 minute walk that I do with the dogs 3-4 times a week counts now that I'm primarily walking! :lmao: I also get in a few speed intervals twice a week, when the girls I coach decide that they need to race me around the track. :thumbsup2

Alright, and now I have to get moving. Shower, dogs to the park, haircut, housework (we have a housewarming party on Saturday and there's still unpacking to be done!) and then off to coach!

Happy Thursday Warioirs!!!

A great, warm, sunny day in NE Florida. Perfect weather to watch a rocket launch this evening !

I have slowly been trying to get back into some systematic training regime. I have kinda' fallen off the last few months, but since I just got drafted to do the Goofy next year, I have to train with some purpose, not just do "whatever" and hope it works out.

I ran about 5.5 on Monday, biked about 29 yesterday & ran 6 this morning followed by a swim interval workout. Once again I can confirm that I officilly SUCK AT SWIMMING. But since it is now part of my job description, it's something I really need to work on.

Later on today, core exercises to help strengthen my defective back, then a picnic with my lovely bride on the beach to watch the missile launch. A big ole' Atlas 5. Should be pretty!

Good afternoon Warriors,

Beautiful sun filled afternoon here in central IL. Headed off to Louisville tomorrow to run the mini marathon on Saturday. Looks like I could get wet, but hey I ran in the sleet & snow in Florida in January so a little rain ain't gonna hurt me. :)

The following Saturday is the big day, my first full marathon!!! I am really excited about running it.

Have a great weekend everybody!!

Stan

Jim, sounds like a heavenly day!

I have Nikes Vomero 4 model. It is a neutral shoe and I basically use it for some of the halfs or shorter runs. I still like Mizuno cushioning for the longer events and training.

Chris, glad to hear from you. Hope your 11 goes well.

Kate, good to hear the holiday is back!

Pam, glad to hear things are improving. I'm

Leaving for KY tomorrow. Yep, another half. Actually I do miss the other trainig that is being sacrificed by my clever idea to train like Wendy. I don't know how she does it. I definitely sacrifice my training with this method. Glad I didn't decide to try this at the Goofy training portion of the season.

Have a good weekend Warriors!
The sickies have finally left our house but took quite a toll! I had a decent work-out today but I wish I were making more progress. I know. Time and persistence will pay off. I'm happy to read everyone's amazing reports!!!

Amanda

Lily,

Are you running the 1/2 marathon in Louisville on Saturday? I will be there running it rain or shine.

Hi all! Even a quick trip to WDW seems to get me way behind. Of course, it was quick enough tha tI wonder if I was really there. I'll know for sure when I get teh cc bill, though. :rotfl: DH's first F&G. Was great to see his reaction. :goodvibes

OK, 23 mile bike Tuesday. Swim class last night (seeign great imporvement, yay!) and a 30-min power core class this am. It was short on tough because our instructor over slept. :p (It's free, so I can't complain)

Kate - Funny, I hated mrning work outs, but it feels so good to have done so much early.

Jim - :grouphug:So sorry about the back. Hope the extra swim time helps the swimming. :goodvibes

Sarah - you are amazing!

Chris - Good to see you!!

Amanda- Way to go!!!

Lily - DOn't know how you do it. Even good weekend travels can be too much after a while. hope you have a fun trip!!

Stan - have fun at the mini!

Amanda - Way to go!!!!!

Pam - Ouch. Hope you are feeing some relief on that shoulder!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Carrie i love reading the distances you cover on your bike- 23 miles is nearly a marathon! So pleased your hubby loved F&G- i think a little bit of disney disruption is ok.

Amanda whoop whoop for the sickness leaving you!

Jim how was the launch? Great work getting back into things- does swimming hurt too? Your work must keep you the most super fit thing ever.

Lily how did the half go? Hope it was wonderful. Yep, you really are following a puniching routine!!!!Hmm i'm picking up a few Nike wearers, may try them out when I'm over in florida on wednesday!!!

StanYou're first full next week!!!! Please give us all of the details. I was virtual cheering for a couple of friends in the london marathon today and will do the same for you next week! What was the deal with the mini-marathon? The only one i've heard of was a 2.62 mile race- was this the same?

Sarah Happy housewarming clean up day! Did you have a good party? How lucky are you with no pronation at all.... not jealous.... honestly.... :rotfl:

Me ran 5.5 miles yesterday morning and probably walked 2 miles later on delivering election leaflets that mum was meant to give out- but forgot! Also did about 4 miles with the beginners group- i'm going to struggle staying up with them soon, pushing me to work harder tho! OH and I'M PACKED! At university monday and tuesday then fly out wednesday. I'm so ready for this break.

Hi Everyone
I've been posting on the Wish board for a while an finally decided to join a team. Maura suggested I join up with you all. I'll start off telling you a little about myself. I'm 41 years old male and currently single. I teach college part time at a local community college where I teach Accounting and Business Math.

Right now, I'm training to complete the Cleveland 1/2 marathon on May 16th in the walking division. I'm using John Bingham "Marathoning for Mortals" walking plan with a couple of modifications. The biggest one being I started a few weeks early out of fear of bad weather, not being able to progress as quickly as the plan called for. I had only missed 1 week because of weather. So, I ended the plan with two 9 mile walks between the 8 and 10 weeks with a 6 mile week in between. So right now, my longest weeks have been an 8, two 9's, and just last Friday a 10. 10 miles ties the longest walk I'd EVER taken. The last time was probably when I was 8 or 9 years old and did a walk-a-thon for hunger. So, right now, I'm sort of in taper mode with an 8 mile walk this Friday and 5 next Friday before Cleveland. My goal for Cleveland is between 3:30 and 3:45. 3:45 is what McMillan think I should complete in and 3:30 is what I need for Disney, which I'm planning long term for 2013 when my teaching schedules changes and I should have marathon week off. By then I hope to be under 3 hrs. so I can enjoy myself and be able to take pictures and not be worried about being swept.

I did my first 5K almost 3 years ago, it was a walk/run to support a local christian radio station. I finished in about 55 minutes. I didn't compete again until I did the same 5K 2 years later (I missed the one in between because of counseling church camp). I had cut my time down to 47:01. About the same time, I had driven a friend to Cleveland so he could run the 1/2 marathon. I had assumed he would run again this year so I signed up for the one this year while the price was only $40 (early bird rate). To work on getting prepared I signed up for the 10K at the USAF Marathon. Completed it in 1:37:07.

I think I"ve caught the bug and I'm trying to decide what to do next. After Cleveland, I'm doing a 5K (the same one for the third time) the following weekend with no expectations for time. Then I need to decide what to do in the fall. I'm trying to decided between USAF again or Columbus or a half marathon if everything goes well this time.

Sorry for the long introduction and hope to get to know everyone.

This weekend is "moving in" weekend for my DW's new business, so there is a lot of scut work in my life right now, I have escaped back to the house for a little while, but will return in a bit.

I managed to get in 6.25 yesterday. It was slow (even for me), but complete and successful. I'm going to try to get in a short bike ride this evening, but the weather is not looking promising at this point.

Kate - the launch was very nice. It was launched to the southeast, so it was not as bright as the space shuttle launches which come up the coast towards us. But it was a nice quiet time w/my DW. The beach was pretty empty where we ended up. Still kinda' chilly around sunset too.

MY back is sorta' holding together. It was a bunch of lifting & twisting yesterday, & I was down on my knees painting parking stripes today, so that did not help either. I am still leery of the pain meds, so it's slow going there figuring out what the effective dose will be without taking too much.

And thanks for the compliment, but I am FAR from being "super fit". Wish I WAS, and hopefully with some intelligent training I can get better, but that's a bit off. The swimming is fine for my back. In fact it helps me learn to keep my body in more of a neutral position.

Welcome Jeremy! I'm pretty new, too. Almost done with the C25K and training for the Disney 1/2 marathon in January. Good thing I have lots of time to train! :lmao:

Amanda

goofyGood Morning Warriors!

Welcome Jeremy and good luck in Cleveland.
JImB~ I hope you back is feeling better-- sounds like a rough training plan- Good Luck
Goofy57 and TigerLilly ~ how was the race in KY? I heard they ended up shortening CMM this year because of weather.
smileyK8~ enjoy your trip and break!
Carrie~ shoulder is much better Chiro put me back again on Tuesday last week and it's been great since.

Training takes a major taper this week as it's only a few days now until the Flying Pig. I leave for Cincinnati on Friday morning to meet some old (and hopefully new) friends. I'm waiting for the weather to clear up (we still have intermittent rain showers) before heading out for my 40 minutes- (which lets be honest will probably turn into 4 miles). No school today as DH's car died and he has mine. We hope to be buying a new used pick-up this afternoon.

Jeremy! Welcome to Warriors! lol. I just finished posting ot you on the monthly thread. can't wait to hear about your race, though!

Pam - Yay for the shoulder! SO good to hear! I do hope to see you this weekend. Will be pretty tied up, but hopefully we can meet up before the race. Dh and I will have our WISH gear on.

Kate - yay for vacation! lol. I know how you feel about being pushed by beginners. that's how my biking was. Funny, dh and I said teh same thing about our bike rides. How we had almost done a marathon. MUCH easier on a bike, though!

Jim - Hope the moving didn't hurt your back too much! Good luck ot your DW's new business!

Lily - Racing this weekend or is it a rare weekend off! Hope you make tiem for some fun!

Amanda - You will be fine! You do have plenty of time to train. I think you are already ahead of teh start of MfM training and it doesn't officially start until October, I think.

Sarah - hope you are still hanigng in there!

Tracy - Miss you! :grouphug: Hope life gives you time to check in soon!

Hi to all I've missed! HOpe you are doing well!

Have slacked a bit this week. Calling it Pig taper and making excuses. Must get in gear soon. However, did have a great swim last night! Doing so much better so much earlier in the season this year! Yay! Of course, you have to do that when you set MUCH bigger goals! :upsidedow

Happy Thursday Warriors!

I'm trapped at work today during an absolutely gorgeous NE Florida Day!!

No workouts today, but I got a 39 mile bike ride followed (some hours later) by a 4.1 mile run.

I was REALLY tired during the run. There is much work in my future still to be done. But I am always a work in progress!!

You guys all rock!!!!

Good Friday afternoon Warriors,

What a beatiful day here in central IL. Tomorrow is the big day, my first full marathon. I am so pumped & full of energy I can't wait.

I had a blast running the Kentucky Derby mini marathon last Saturday in Louisville. Ran it in 2:14:28 which is a new PR for me. Ran the 1st 5 milies in on and off rain, but after that the sun came out and it warmed up nicely.

I ran mile 13 in 8:35 which is really really fast for me. Still had some energy left at the end, so all of the training for my full mary has really paid off. I sure hope I'm saying the same thing tomorrow afternoon :)

Hope everybody has a fantastic weekend and if you are racing run strong!!!!
