Warriors are Ringing in the New Year 2010

Happy New Year Warriors!

It was great meeting everyone last weekend, I had a fun time even though it was freezing!

I do not plan on running WDW next year, but I will be running the DL 1/2!

I would love to stay a Warrior if you will have me...not sure how many miles I will post, but I'm always at the gym and active.

Have a great day! cheers

Marcia - you will come in 2010 if I plan on doing the FULL!! YOU WILL COME!

Here are the Warriors that made it for a photo op!

Sorry for the pop in Marcia you must come in 2011!

Tracy - I may be a volunteer for your first Marathon as I'm thinking Half!

Sneaks off......

Hi Warriors!

Well, my first trip to WDW was awesome! So happy to get to see a bunch of fellow Warriors too!

And I actually completed Goofy!:woohoo:

I can't wait for the DL half. My 2010 set will then be complete!

Happy training!

Hey hey everyone, just got home yesterday and still feeling very sleepy! Stupid atlantic between us :)

It was so fantastic seeing you all at the WISH meet and also getting to hold the elusive mickey dwarf. Now i feel special, ha ha. So I finished in 4:07:15 which i'm thrilled with. Had my shins taped at the expo and it made such a difference. Really couldn't recommend KT Tape any more! The run felt good til about 17 so Jim i totally hear you on the 17-20 blowout, although i'm not sure mine finished at 20 :rotfl: Was very strict with my walk breaks at the end (as you can see by Mike's post!) but feel disappointed that had to take them. It was awesome being able to run with such a strong and determined WISHer, I'm off to thank Mike now! Toying with the thought of a return trip next year..... oh dear. Mum even said the silly words of 'you could never do a goofy'....... sounds like a challenge!

Carrie you wouldn't believe how reassuring it was to see you on race morning so thanks for that!

Anyway- haven't had chance to catch up with all your times and how the race went for you guys, but you did it! Thanks so much for allowing me to have such a wonderful experience, both in the run up and the event itself.

Kate Just popped in to say I saw you on the marathon course--I think somewhere in the mile 4 or so range (although I don't really remember!) You were by me and then I realized it was you. I knew you were faster than me, and didn't try to catch up, but I wish I could have said hi (I didn't really see any WISH runners on course).

Congrats on your finish. Turns out I wasn't too far behind you--chip-wise anyway.

Maura- i just saw your finish time, you were hardly behind at all! So sorry didn't get to see you. I had just taken my bin bag off at that point, which i think made me more spottable than most! You did fantastically Maura, hope you're still very proud and smiley :) Thanks for popping by though it means a lot

Kate -

I hear ya' on the KT tape. On Friday I was hobbling around the Expo with my foot bothering me so much I was seriously wondering if I could even answer the bell on Sunday. I had taped my foot up myself without much real luck. I had researched & seen the KT tape on the 'net, but could not get any before the race.

Lo & behold I stumbled (literally) across their booth, with the simple appilcation of 3 pieces of tape my pain was greatly relieved & I could walk like a human again (well, mostly).

I told the gentleman that did my foot "if this works, I'm gonna' come back here & kiss you full on the lips", to which he replied "That's really not necessary, but I appreciate the sentiment".

LOng story short, it did not CURE me, but it gave me enough relief that I was able to make it (slowly) to the finish. BTW, I bought a roll from them & have 2 more on order.

Would love to be part of the Warrior team!!!!! I have registered for the 2011 Goofy...

Hey Warriors!

I'm finally getting back in the groove of things after returning from WDW on early Thursday morning. DH and I both came down with a nasty norovirus (is there ever any kind?) in the last few days of our trip, so it's taken me a few days to feel normal again. Oh well, at least it waited until after the marathon to set it, but I'm super upset that we had to cancel our ADR for California Grill! :sad2:

Well, the Goofy got done.... it wasn't fast, but it's there. The 5K was fun, but I'm not sure I would do it again for the price.

I ran into a group of WISHers - luckily, despite all the layers! - before the half, which was awesome. Tracy, it was great having you for company as we waited for port-o-potties. :goodvibes I ran the half just fast enough to keep warm, with lots of character stops and photos along the way. Rare (for me), I felt like I had a really fantastic attitude throughout the entire race, despite the horrid weather. I finished in 2:48, and then FROZE (like everyone else) on the way out and back to CSR.

On the morning of the full, DH and I again ran into a different group of WISHers waiting in the parking lot. Tim (timmac) was in the same corral as me, so we ended up sticking together for about the first mile of the race, before he took off. DH ran the whole marathon with me, which was unexpected but very nice. We also had chatted with a bunch of people at the CSR bus stop, and on the bus, and then again in the corrals, and we ended up running into all of those people at some point during the race! It was so funny! I was keeping about the same pace as I had for the half (with lots of stops for photos), which really surprised me. By the time we got to the AK, I was so excited, because I still felt fantastic, and was still having a great time. And then mile 20 came and it all went pear-shaped. My hamstrings tightened up, my ankle (that's been an on-and-off injury for over 2 years now) started twinging, and I started to have mild cramping. My doctor had warned that it would likely happen and if it did, I should walk until it stops. Despite this heads up, I was worried that I should quit. Thankfully, the cramping stopped by mile 21, but it meant that I walked the rest of the race. We finished in 6:23, which was 23 minutes slower than my "worst case scenario". :rotfl: Well, I guess my worst case scenario was not finishing, so it wasn't all that bad!

I'm so glad I got talked into the Goofy! I really want to sign up for next year, but I don't really think it's realistic to train for it starting a few weeks after giving birth. I'm definitely doing at least the half. I'll have to make the Goofy decision closer to when it starts filling up. I guess, I can always sign up for the Goofy and just run the first day, right? I'm not sure I'd be able to resist the urge to go out the next day, though! :lmao: *sigh* Now, I know how all you Perfect Goofy's got there!

Hey kids!!

I did my 1st post-Mickey cardio today. An easy 11 mile/45 minute bike ride. Can't run. My DW will kick my ever-lovin' behind if I do until the PF clears up. My legs felt fine & my foot ached just a touch when I finished. Ice & tape seems to be helping.

I am doing the ESPN 5K & Princess 5k & The Breast Cancer 1/2 M, all late next month. I probably will not run again until then. Ugh. Luckily I am not a "Runner's High" addict. In fact, I have YET to find the darn thing.

Been doing some weights lately. Trying to re-build my (long absent) core strength.

Tomorrow, bike to the pool & swim a bunch.

Hope you all are doing well.

CYA!!!!

Jim I'm so pleased that the tape worked for you too. I've been raving about it! I'm loving that your wife has you on an exercise fast :) Are you still using the KT tape? I was curious whether it's possible to tape yourself as well as the people at expo did?

Tracy as i said on facebook- you are amazing running so far so fast!

Stan hoping to welcome you asap!

Sarah so sorry your hamstrings got tight, but you did so well! I am so impressed by everyone of you Goofy's and have to admit to being a little tempted myself.... it won't happen tho. The Full might :rotfl: For some reason I'm not even sure giving birth would hold you back!!!! Very sensible tho, too sensible for a warrior:banana:

Me first run since marathon yesterday- 3.1miles and actually they went pretty smoothly. Some weird foot soreness from possible puffy bit, but i'm so pleased nothing else cried :) I've posted my thoughts on our team and really hope it continues as the support is phenomenal.

Kate - The "KT Guys" recommended that I wear the tape 24/7 for a few weeks, so I went over how to do it (2 or 3 times) before I left. The angle is a bit weird for me, but I am able to do it fairly well.

About 7 1/2 miles on the bike going to/from th pool today and about 700 meters swimming. First time in the pool since my hand surgery in October. Geez. I. Suck. At. Swimming.

But I want to get back into some Tri's, so no excuses (+ I can't run, so I gotta' do something).

Kate: Great 3.1 miles after Marathon weekend. And the Full may be tempting me next year, I'll have to wait and see what the podiatrist says regarding if I needed another surgery on my toe.

Jim: yep, you gotta get out there and do something so biking and swimming sounds good. I just hope the pool you are using is heated. I can't go in unless its about 78/80 degrees and evern then it takes time. First the feet, then down the next step for lower legs, etc, etc.

AFM: got out for a nice 4 miler after work, temp was 65!! Nice weather here! I have 1 week and 4 days to the ING Miami Half Marathon, hoping for the 2:45!!

Have a great Tuesday!

First run back in the islands today. 5 pm, 78 degrees. 1 mile into it, I was soaked with sweat. Welcome home bruddah! LOL.

6 miles, legs felt good for 3 miles, and then laughed their way home the last 3 miles.

Hey JimB. Any stats on how many people needed medical attention during and after the half and full marathons? I saw lots of people with early onset hypothermia.

It sounds like there's enough support to continue to the teams, in some form or another, this year. Lots of decisions to be made, though, so I'm hoping for some more input--specifically from team members:

For more, please see this post to the Teams 2010? thread, of which I've posted an excerpt here:

From what I understand, a (sort of) collective response to the teams seems to be

1) People appreciate the smaller, intimate teams, especially as WISH gets bigger, for team members of active threads, and new WISHers who want to get involved.
2) But people are concerned for about the effects of the teams on the WISH team as a whole, both terms of online activities (weekly/monthly thread, talking with other WISHers, getting more feedback outside one's team, the worries about emergent cliques & feelings of outsiderness) and at physical WISH meets.

It sounds as if the teams will continue in one form or another, whether as a challenge or more like a social thread (like the Bots, the Leaners, or any of the event-oriented threads like the Princess). They seem to serve a purpose for many people. But like others, I'd like to see the team aspect enable more interaction between all members of WISH. Best of both worlds.

Teams: To help facilitate this decision-making, I'd like all team members to take that extra step, go that extra mile (sorry, couldn't resist) to address concerns about the teams' effect. Talk amongst themselves, brainstorm, and have your representative make suggestions. Are you willing to be disbanded and reformed as a new group, starting new teams for an entirely new game with new teammates? If not a miles & minutes challenge, then what? People assigned to your roster or a join-at-will? What could you do to reach out to other WISHers? Etc.

Once teams have reached some sort of consensus, or a collection of ideas, could one person post them to this thread?

Easy 12.1 mile bike ride in 46 minutes.

Presently sitting here typing with an ice pack wrapped around my left foot. Fun. Not.

Jeff - We do not get any "official" stats after the race. Too low on the totem pole, I guess. But from what I saw, the medical issues were limited to cold & musculoskeletal problems. Heck, I came pretty close to frostbite myself while on my bike saturday. Combination of wet, wind chill, VERY absorbent shoes.

But, from what I found, fortunately there were no serious problems encountered (but I DID see where someone vomited up their on-course banana. Bleh.)
