Warriors are HOT in August!

Hi everyone,

We just did our Sunday walk, we went out at 5am. This helps us so the sun :sunny:is not blazing on us. The humidity was at 78 and the temp 80. We did 6.05 miles and averaged 16.49 pace. I did a sprint at the end as if I was getting to the finish line of W & D and the pace was 13.14. Then we finished with an easy walk the remainder of the 1.2 miles to get home.
We need to work on overpasses because everything we have here is flat and I do not want to get behind on those overpasses. We are thinking next week to use the bridge over the inter-coastal so that we can work those muscles.

Good luck to everyone
Kathy

Oh my word what an exciting week you guys have had! I've said it already, but whoop to Callum. Baby warrior time :) Tracy- great to see you and Carrie you go to that school head up high and proud of what you've done- DESPITE the coach :)

Amy thrilled to hear you're on your way home!

kathy hurray for another 5am start! You are so determined to do well I know you will!

Jim hope you have managed to catch up on some sleep and the chair hasn't escaped from the living room yet, ha ha.

Lily hope you enjoyed your month off

Me got home at 4am this morning after a week in lanzarote! It was lovely and relaxing and perfect. Very windy and very hot- but we ran about 5k 4 mornings out of 7 so feel very proud of us. We have a 5k planned for 25th so trying to get faster. Booked physio for thursday to try to work out shin stress again. Looking forward to it, in a weird way!

Happy Monday Warriors!!!!!

Another fun-filled week has gone careening by too fast!!

AFM - I did NOT get my LR in last week. I completely FORGOT that we were taking my DS down to his new college in Melbourne last week. Kind of got in the way. But we DID spend 2 nights @ Disney's VB Resort as a result.

But they have pumped so much sand on the beach that it is "unrunnable" down there. Too much of a slant. So I broke one of Jim"s Rules of Running (number 3, I think), which reads as follows: "Treadmills suck. Stay off them.".

Faced with no choice, I did about 35 minutes each night we were there. But no lasting effects that I can find. But they still suck.

Busy day & night at work yesterday. Due to a lack of sleep & lingering back pain, I did a short 17 mile bike ride today. Going to TRY to get out for one last attempt at a LR prior to the DL 1/2, but it's still pretty warm. I'm pretty unsuccessful at getting up early. Maybe tomorrow will be a trend breaker.

You all sound like you are doing great! Keep up the fine work!

PS - Sarah, that is one fine lookin' young 'un ya got there!! Congratulations!

Hello all, just a reminder - discount codes for booking during Marathon weekend are out. I just made ressies for POP in January!! Passholder rates aren't out yet, the girl said they most likely won't be out until maybe November.

Did my LAST long miles before DL...12.5 - Hottest day in a very long time and by mile 10 when I was out of the development that had shade and into direct sun - I was SPENT. I pretty much just walked the rest. Got the miles in though and that is all that matters!!

Hi all

Tracy - So, your ready for taper madness to set in. I looked at next year school calendar and I'm off from school during next years DL half. So, I'm doing early planning for a year from now.

Jim - I can't stand treadmills either. Last winter I was "forced" into using it for my short training. 30min. was way too long.

Kate - Good to see you were able to keep up with your fitness routine when you were away. Good luck on the 5K next week.

Kathy - Sounds like things are coming together nicely. Those imprompu fartleks (where you pick up the pace for a short period of time) are a good way to start improving your speed.

Amanda - Have fun at Disney

AFM - I've done two 4 mileish workouts in my new shoes. I'm not sure if they are helping anything but there not hurting anything right now either. I'll need to wait until a week from friday and my 8mi before I know for sure. Monday's workout went fairly well but todays went very well. The workout ended up being a tempo or progression run for the run intervals. My first 3 run intervals were at about a 12:00 mile. The next 3 about 11:00 mile. Next 2 mid 10's and last Upper 9:00. My walk intervals inbetween were mostly in the mid 15:00 range. Also, according to my Garmin (and Sports Track) I ended up with a new unofficial 5K PR. I finished the 5K starting at 3/4 of a mile in (First 1/2 mile was warmup) 42:48 beating my official (race) 5K results of 43:39 and I wasn't pushing as hard. My average HR was 174 for the race (if you remember, I started too fast), and was 135 today. Even with all the setback and problems I'm still seeing improvement. Sorry for another long post.

ETA: I had another piece of good health related news this morning. My weight is new 299, I'm back out of the 3's. Knowing the way my weight fluctuates, I will bounce around 300 for a while but it was nice to see a 2 in front for a change.

Boy - When your clothes get wet they really stick to you.:laundy:

We started to take the van over to the bridges and the rain was just poring down. :sad2: So we decided to go back home and do the normal walk. We got about 1 mile away from home and the skies opened. This was the first time I walked in the rain. It was a good experience. We very rarely get rain in the morning like this. Oh well at least we still got our walk in.

Hope everyone else is doing well

Kathy

Happy Sizzlin' Sunday Warriors!!

I am now officially on my "heat induced" taper for the DL 1/2. Came home from work this a.m. and managed to get out onto the road by about 8:30 a.m.

By 9 a.m., the heat index was over 90º, by 9:30 it was 96º. So much for my long run. Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut, what the heck. If the temp in California is anything south of 85º, it's gonna' be a piece of cake. Maybe a SLOW piece of cake, but I'm just there for the bling and preferred seating at the World of Color show anyway. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

We are on our 48th straight day of 90º + temps. Bleh. I'm hoping the temperature breaks well before the Wine & Dine on Oct 2nd. Or before college football season starts (Go UCF Knights!). Or before my next day of work, Or before I go outside again today. How about NOW!!!!!?????

Boy - When your clothes get wet they really stick to you.

That's the flippin' truth!! And mine ain't stickin' because of the rain! I have been sweating my buttocks off!!!! High temp + high RH = REALLY sticky, soaking clothes!!

Warriors Rock!! Ya'll are awesome!

Good Morning Warriors!

Those of you getting ready for DL good Luck! I'm finally getting out and running regularly again- actually was outside for a run today felt ok- but slow! oh well hopefully I'll get quicker again. Stay safe in the heat and humidity everyone!

Officially I am in wk 20 training for January and the count down begins. Let the fun begin too.

Good luck to those DLers for the upcoming half.

Hey hey!!!!

Sorry life has been mega hectic this week- all really nice stuff but it's just all happened this week!

Jim so sorry the heat's taking it's toll! 90oF each day is craziness! Is it stormy too?

Kathy you are hilarious- why bother with clothes in the rain, we could just tape ourselves up like mummies and give the neighbours a proper good scare, he he he. Great work tho.

Tracy hurray for your last long miles- you're almost there. And AMAZING that you have booked for the marathon. I think I might have to keep my head down in jan as I'm going to have an attack of the green monster!

Lily Week 20! My work how those weeks are flying. Hope you're feeling good.

jeremy thanks for the good luck! How did the long run go on friday in your shoes? I hope they make some difference for you.

Pam well done for getting back into regular runs, the speed will come :)

Me did my 5k last night. It was a lovely race through country lanes and with some of the new members from the running club I help out at. The only downside is that there were loads of club runners. in fact most runners belonged to proper clubs. slowest time was 33 minutes and I came in with a P.B of 23:22! Shin niggled, but didn't stop me  Right on to training for the 10k next month!

So hard to get here these days. When I can, it won't let me reply half the time.

Tarining has slacked since Steelhead. Did another tri Sunday. yet another adventure for me. AL ended well, though.

Here's teh report.

I should not admit it, but I really don't want to start marathon training. We will tri train until Sept 11 adn then it's all marathon. I will miss my bike. Will continue swim class, but adding so many more runs just doesn't sound fun to me. hope the weather cools off enough for me to change my mind.

Carrie- party: Congratulation on your great finish.

Kate- party: Great job on the PR in the 5K. Last Friday's long run was a cut back week so today was the real test of the new shoes.

7 weeks until Columbus so I'm into peak training time. The 10K I was going to do as a "tune up" race was officially canceled for this year. So, I have a little bit of play in my schedule again.

Another pretty good week is in the books. Monday and Wednesday I did a little over 4 miles each day. Monday was an easy day and Wednesday I let myself go a quicker. Today was an 8 mile day. I got up early and tried to do a bit of a race day routine. I ended up starting about 7:30 after eating breakfast, drinking some Powerade and giving it time to digest. Everyone down south will hate to hear this but It was 45 degrees outside when I left the house. My goal for long days has been to work on starting out slow, and today was able to keep my run steps nice and slow for the first several miles before allowing the pace to pick up a little bit but still keeping it easy.

The knee hasn't been bothering me as much but still a little bit at times. I don't know if it's the new shoes or my legs/knees getting stronger that accounts for the improvement. I also picked up one of those hot/cold packs with some sort of seeds in it and have been using it after each workout. This time around, I also haven't gotten any blisters so that's a major improvement from last time.

Hi Warriors!!...

Hoping all is going well with everyone. Again, I have popped in to see what you all are up too, but sorry to not being able to post replies. Disneyland Half is coming up next weekend. Got my last Long miles in today and then two more days of short miles and then race day.
Having a hard time packing as their avg high while I will be there is my LOW TEMP. So, thinking I may skip the tank tops - hahaha!!

Take care everyone and keep up your training!!

Tracy

Good Monday morning warriors. Only 6 more sleeps until the Disneyland 1/2. Are ya'll as excited as me? Can't wait to get there. Leaving Wednesday morning, should be in SO CAL by 11:00AM!!!

Did an easy 5 miles this morning & will do a short tempo run tomorrow morning before heading to St. Louis to spend the night. Really excited for my wife, as this will be her first 1/2 mary. Can't wait to snap her picture as she crosses the finish line.

Hope to see all of ya there.:dance3:

Good luck to all the warrior running DL half marathon this weekend.

Whoo Hoo Warriors! It's Week 19 and training continues. Slowly, but at least something is finally happening here. Hot today and it was awful out there, but still better than TM.

Wishing everyone the best to those going to Disneyland.:cheer2:

We will be off in our new motorhome to Fort Wilderness for the weekend:cool1:. We will walk around the loops.

Good luck again and be safe while in Disneyland.

Kathy
