Hi Everyone, Last Tuesday I left my 300 M at the Chrysler Dealer for repairs on Wednesday. I told the service department that I would either pick up my car late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning. As my DH and I drove into the lot, I saw my car! Up on four milk cartons with the wheels missing! Apparently there is a market for chrome wheels on 300Ms. When I investigated further, I learned that this is the third such recent theft. I think I should have been warned or I would have gotton a ride to the dealership to pick up my car before dark! Be careful where you park and consider locking nuts.

Yikes. Good tip. I would have thought that high priced whells like that would have come standard with locking nuts, but I suppose when people are pros at stealing, nothing will stop them. Things like locking nuts, laptop locking cables and such are only for preventing amateurs and the casual, opportunistic thieves. One redeeming thought, the dealers insurance will pay all, your insurance would have had a deductible. Hope the repairs are good. :) And have a good week.

Dan, That is the killer. I have been going toe to toe with the dealer with regard to liability. HE parked my car there. HE didn't disclose that he had a theft problem. Just by having a night key drop box implies some level of safety at both ends of a service visit. He is pushing me to put it through my insurance, I am refusing. We are at an impasse. I have told my insurance adjuster to play hard ball with him. I don't care if he has my car for another week. It can't look very good up on jacks in the lot! The wheels really "MAKE" that car...if you know what I mean.;) Any suggestions?

Dawn,

Sounds like they need to hire night security.

I would go back to the dealer and politely request that he file claim with his insurance. Tell him the next time you have to come in, you will be bringing the local media with you. I doubt they want the bad publicity.
Another route is to go above the dealership level. Contact Chrysler's regional customer service in your area.

We've had the "polite" conversation and I almost had him agree. The next step, my adjuster calls him Monday and asks for his insurance information. Chrysler regional customer service may be next. Good idea.

How terrible for you!! Unbelievable at a dealership!! Sorry, but I disagree with the dealer and having had it happen several times before, why did he not call the police? If your car was being worked on at the dealership, it seems they should be responsible, not you. Why should you claim it, possibly raising your insurance, when it was on their property?!

My daughter has a 300M and has never had a problem wherever she's parked. Guess she has been lucky! Hope it works out and you get your car and beautiful wheels back soon.

The car was in his "care, custody & control" --- terms straight out of his garage keepers liability policy. Tell him to go read it!!!
