Warning tiffins

Marikujawa- You have a great point. I think with me, I'm so used to hopping on here to lend out a helping hand or answer a question if I see somebody is in need of advice or answers (and I have it for them) that I automatically assume that's what most of my fellow DisBoarders are doing too when they post something like this, you know?... just trying to help others. I know that no matter how many times I have visited, I sure need help too myself sometimes and am so grateful that others are eager to respond. I see that you are a long timer here on Disboards, so you probably notice your share of people who just want to complain or argue. I do too. I won't shame him for how much he hoped to eat though.
Of course, you're right. The title of the thread is what set me off. The needs of linebackers and bodybuilders aside, many restaurants serve very large portions of food. Disney finally puts a restaurant in its theme park that serves normal portions of interesting food and someone slaps a warning label on it lol.

I think those with larger appetites will appreciate the OP. That you find it so offensive that you have to continue to post ad nauseum is quite comical. You like the food and portion sizes, good for you, some people find the portions too small.

I think these are "realistic" portions that one should be eating for a large portion of people. This does not include those that are larger then average, are athletes, or the like as they fall outside of the "normal" range. Most people think they need to eat more food then they actually need. The potions at most Disney restaurants are HUGE so when one sees a "realistic" portion it looks small.

For those of us that plan one big meal a day if we are doing a signature ($$$$) if that had been my husband's plate of food he would have done exactly what OP did. OP posted a warning for people who might not have considered that fine dinning means "smaller portions" or that you should have budgeted for an app, entree, and dessert. Thanks OP. We'll keep that in mind when planning out meals.

Okay, let's go the other way, then. My husband may be 6'5", but I am 5'2", and because of a medical condition I can't eat much food all at once. At restaurants I always wind up either sharing my food or taking home a doggie bag. And *I* think those portions look small. If I think I can finish it quickly, then it's a really small portion.

My mom and I are trying tiffins for the first time in August and we are always curious about portion sizes because we are very small eaters, so i think tiffins will be a good fit for us. Im sorry it wasnt a perfect expirence for you guys maybe it will be better for you next time :)

I think upscale restaurant portions are designed to allow people to enjoy a multi course meal. Mid level ones have appetizers that could feed an army... like nachos at margaritaville or a blooming onion at outback.

I love an app but only order one at an upscale restaurant. One scallop isn't enough for a table to share but enough to give me a taste and still have room for my entree

My DH and I tend to have Appetizers with our meal so when the actual meal comes it's usually more then enough.

I realized that part of the division of attitudes might be dining plan vs. cash customers. With the dining plan, you get an appetizer and dessert as part of your meal automatically. But when you are putting cash on the barrel head, you feel like you shouldn't have to buy a $15 appetizer and a $10 dessert in addition to your $40 entree just so you feel fed.

Not speaking to Disney dining just dining anywhere. Upscale places are designed for multi course meals and portioned as such. Nothing to Do with dining plans

You don't get an appetizer on the regular dining plan.

We ate there in September and left stuffed. We both had the Waygu beef, no appetizers. The desserts were tiny, but I was so full I didn't care.

This is why I look at a lot of pictures. There are some signatures that serve large portions and some that serve smaller portions. I think I would enjoy both but just like to know going in. If it is a large portion place such as yachtman or Narcoosses then we don't order apps. I think at tiffins or California grill it just leaves you the opportunity to also try an app or soup as well. Price point really is irrelevant.

I can't really agree. We live near one of the best steak places in the world (IMNTBHO), and you can order just the entree and feel like you need to crawl to the car. We have never gotten an appetizer there. We do get dessert, but that is because they have a separate section of the restaurant where you go to eat dessert. They make it an experience. Their dessert menu is longer than many places' wine lists. We always take doggie bags home from both the meal and the dessert, because the servings are so generous. It's not cheap, but we've never left hungry.

I stand corrected on the regular dining plan. We've never used it, since we live nearby. I was told by a relative that their plan included apps and dessert, but I just went and looked at them at the Disney site, and see that they vary quite a bit.

No offense intended to anyone, but those responding about leaving full after having an appetizer, entree, and dessert really aren't really on topic here. We're discussing entree size...not how full you were after multiple courses.

I have not eaten at Tiffin's, so all I have to go on is that one single picture posted. Given that, it's a very small entree.

I agree completely! If you have to order all the extras to to be reasonably satisfied, there's something wrong with that picture! We don't typically order apps and dessert with our meals as we like to eat dessert later. This would be a real bummer! Thanks OP for the warning!!

Paying these prices, we would have been 'very' upset! Guess we will skip this place - pics don't lie or exaggerate!! :sad2: I don't want to feel stuffed, but I do expect to leave satisfied!

The entree portions we were given were more than adequate for us. Not talking about multiple courses. Just entree portions. Seriously, how much do people need to eat?

Tiffins, like all signature restaurants, is not about "food piled on a plate for the price."

With all the information, including menu descriptions and prices online, I doubt anyone would confuse Tiffins with Golden Corral.

I reread the original post and it doesn't seem the OP was confused as to, or ignorant of, the type of dining experience Tiffins provides. So I don't understand the "warning."

Do you think we might have gotten what you really meant???

Dh & I are small people that don't snack all the time, so at meal time we actually do want to have enough to adequately satisfy us - signature, or not! Most people probably realize we are 'not' at Golden Corral!! :P

Agreed. Most American restaurants serve inappropriately large portions. I like when a place has an amount similar to what I'd have at home.

I appreciate this heads up. For the price, that certainly isn't a very big entree. Shoot, I would expect a bigger entree for half the price. Glad you posted the pic. Thanks!

Not in all cases, we never do the dining plan and while more often than not we will share an appetizer and a dessert we don't always order one and are always satisfied with the entre.
