WARNING--Mickey Soap is Ivory Soap!

One tip I like to do is buy some good smelling shower gel at Bath and Body Works. I use a certain flavor on vacation and then when I get home, and need a Disney state of mind, I use it and it feels like I am on vacation!

I do the same thing! Gives me a quick trip back in my mind ;o)

Thanks OP for posting this. I meant to post this very information when we got back from our trip in Nov and I've been too swamped. I'm also allergic to Ivory Soap and started washing my hands with my mickey soap without thinking (DS had arranged the soaps as soon as we got in our room)...familiar smell...UH OH!!! Rinsed as quick as possible and STILL broke out in hives. Thankfully it was just on my hands and I think I managed to nip the exposure quick enough that the hives healed relatively quickly. That'll teach me ...don't forget to smell my soap before I use it!!!! LOL

Me Too!!! My husband had flowers sent from the flower shop (duh) and tucked in the arrangement was a bottle of moisturizer, I think its called Elizabeth Bearden - reminds me of Disney World everytime I smell it. I am babying it now because I don't know if I can get more. Isn't it great for us smell-focused folks? Just sniff a cap and WHAM!! You are back in Florida at your resort, headed out to do something you just know is gonna be really fun!

Oh, I have mickey soap and a shampoo from our 2 trips in 2003 and 2004, i don't mind the soap, but the shampoo is the WORST for my hair. But I just can't resist reading the label. "Everybody squeaky clean? Then on with the show!"

Ivory soap is actually used since it normally has less reacations then just about anything else. (My MD put me on an Ivory soap test for my hives, made no difference! Soaps live Dove actually can irrate lots of people once again no difference I still had hives LOL!)

I don't like Ivory soap, but it has nothing to do with its cleaning capacity. I dislike it because it shrinks away so fast! Know why? It's whipped and it's full of air.

You notice, almost no one is on here saying how much they love Ivory. Actually no one used the word love. Come to think of it I haven't seen an Ivory commercial in a long time either.

I haven't seen an Ivory commercial recently, either. Perhaps they're doing private label, such as the Mickey soap? However, it doesn't say anywhere on the label what type of soap it is. I just looked at a bar of soap we brought back from a Marriott. It says Marriott, but the fine print says Dial. At least Disney should let you know what type of soap you have. I noticed it when I started to wash my face and recognized that smell. Fortunately I hadn't showered with it. The whole stay my face looked like I had a sunburn. I'll always remember to bring my own from now on!

I love Ivory!

My skin is both dry and sensitive. Ivory doesn't help the dryness but it is the only commercial soap I've found that doesn't irritate. I think it is because it doesn't have the perfumes that most soaps have. I don't use it on my face though which is dryer and yet less sensitive.

But I agree with Sammie...the new soap at WDW isn't quite the same as Ivory. It has the same color and a very similar texture. The smell is close enough to fool you but if you have a bar of each, you will be able to tell the difference.

I travel with Ivory for my body and Neutrogena for my face but ran out of my Ivory. For me, the good news is that whatever the new WDW soap is....I can use it.

this thread fascinates me, since I have really bad dry skin, usually cracks on my hands from frequent washing. Recently I ran out of our liquid soap for the bathroom and had a bar of mickey soap handy from our last trip and ripped it open. Smelled it and thought it smelled like Ivory.

Well, lo and behold, within 2 days of using that instead of the liquid soap, the cracks in my hands were gone and the dryness had started healing! I have been to the dermatologist for this and had all kinds of soaps and creams and lotions but amazingly, I never tried Ivory. I went out and bought some regular bars and while it is lighter than the soap weight wise that was the mickey face soap, it has the same effect on my hands.

It's fascinating how people can be allergic to different things, or helped by them! Great thread. My advice is if you have any kind of sensitivity to soap always take your own...don't risk having to buy the pricey stuff on property at the gift shops!

I'm allergic to practically every soap--I use Aveeno baby wash instead of soap (although on my hands I do use wonderful hand-made soap scented with essential oils, I wouldn't dare try it on my entire body!). I bring the Aveeno everywhere with me! On our recent stay at POP, I took one whiff of the Mickey soap (DH used it) and said "That's Ivory!" I hadn't smelled Ivory since I was a kid!

That may be the problem.... you haven't smelled it since you were a kid. It is certainly evocative of Ivory. But next time you go to WDW, take along a bar of Ivory and I'm sure you will be able to tell the difference.

Well, actually I guess that is silly since you don't seem to like Ivory so it would be goofy to buy it. But trust those of us who use both...it is not the same! Close but...

It might seem goofy to worry about the soap, but if you had a problem with Ivory soap (and it seems many people do) you'd appreciate knowing that Mickey soap is made with Ivory. Usually the times I've found it in hotel rooms its clearly labeled as Ivory. I almost bathed with it, but recognized the smell. Its not "goofy" to be warned about the soap. If one has a problem using Ivory it could ruin your entire vacation. If you've never experienced what Ivory can do to skin that is sensitive to it, don't call those of us who have a problem with Ivory "Goofy".

Oh for heavens sake! I was including myself in the goofy group. If you had read the thread before responding to my post, you would see that I do appreciate the warning. I'm just commenting on our mad detective skills that seem to be emerging from this discussion. I have very dry skin (as already stated) and my doctor told me to avoid Ivory. Not only that but my fiance is allergic to most products with perfumes and dyes and tried using Ivory because of the marketting (i.e. it's pureness, etc.) only to find out he was more allergic to that. As I've stated several times already, thank you to the OP for warning us. My last post was simply a silly observation and I'm sorry that it offended you.

My dh is a huge lover of Ivory soap. Yes, I know....no accounting for tastes. We just got back from WDW with a very nice supply of soaps. We took some out and they are not Ivory. More like Jergens. The Mickey soap doesn't dry my face the same way Ivory does!!! If you take a bar of Ivory and smell it and then smell the Mickey soap it just doesn't match. Mickey also just doesn't float. I really don't think that Ivory is making a 'sorta' Ivory soap for use at WDW. If it doesn't float it isn't Ivory.

I would suggest that any of you out there with sensitive skin should bring your own soap. I know I have to do that with shampoo. That's a huge headache but one I have to tolerate. I can't believe that anyone with sensitive skin would actually travel without the soap they would normally use. Way too big a chance to take.
