Make sure to put new batteries into your Pal before you take him back to WDW.

Last month I brought my Pal Mickey back to WDW for the first time. He had his original batteries and was working fine--until I took him through the turnstiles into Epcot for the first time. He started to vibrate--which is good--but would not stop and spoke gibberish when I pressed his hand.

Into the first gift shop we went. I was directed to the "Pal Mickey experts" who were so wonderful to us. (I am not a kid, just a "big kid"). The "doctors" thoroughly examined the "patient" in the diagnostic area. They decided he needed new batteries. They told me even if the batteries seem ok, Mickey uses A LOT OF POWER when he receives the new download upon entering a park. It took some work, but a wonderful CM declared "The operation was a success and the patient has made a full recovery!"

The two CMs who helped me were so kind and patient, and they refused payment for the batteries. I was so thankful to have Mickey well again and delighted with their very charming treatment. Lots of magic in WDW last month.

Thanks for the tip. I'll definitly change my Pal Mickey's batteries, what kind does it take, AA ?

3 AAs. We've already loaded our kid's matching Mickys with new ones for the next upcoming trip.

We have played with our Mickey so much since last year I had to change the bateries for the third time this week before I packed him. Do you think he will be ok in checked luggage or should he be carried on? Will the x-ray hurt him?

Pal Mickey does fine in your checked bags...except he might get a little claustrophobic, but he'll forgive you...at least mine did! :earboy2:

To the OP...have you noticed if he says anything new with the updates?? I'm probably going to leave mine at home this weekend...last trip he got a little repetitive. He was there in May and October...I think I know all his spiels by heart now....

Yes, he did say new things. We had a year between trips, so I was hoping he would have some new material, and he did. He seemed more talkative than last trip.

Thanks for the info. My husband would be crushed if his Pal Mickey didn't work right. We bought it for me...I never even got to hold him

It's funny that you mention that. We ordered Pal Mickey from the Character Warehouse right before we left/ Several people said he came w/ dead batteries so everywhere we went for the whole time we were there we brought extra batterines. Well, over a week of very extensive use his batteries did not die until we got home. Guess we got lucky.

I hope that V2 has batteries that are easier to replace. It did feel like I was doing surgery on the mouse!

He should be fine going thru the Xray in checkd baggage or the X ray machine for carry on bags. If they don't hurt computers, they won't hurt Mickey.

I also got mine from the outlet and he worked fine with the original batteries. Except that at MK he told me to visit Alien Encounter instead of Stitch. I was hoping it was just that he needed new batteries instead of being related to buying him from an outlet. Since that was our last night, I didn't bother changing his batteries, but will make sure to do so next time.

Oh, and on the bus ride back to AKL after MK closed, he told me the parade was starting in 30 minutes. Must have been a special parade a 1:00 in the morning.

We just got back. I changed PM's batteries right before we left and yet after we entered he had the same symptoms and had to have the nice disney doctors change his batteries as well. That download must take a lot so bring extra for your extra.

Wow, my Mickey has never spoken outside the parks (without a squeeze, that is).

We just got back from an eight day trip. DD dragged Pal Mickey everywhere and we didn't need to replace batteries once. We got him in August and he definitely said a lot more things at each of the parks.

It was cute. Everytime he buzzed our DD (4) would get so excited and hold him up to her ear.

For those that are in search of Mickey, I was shopping down in Miami and saw the Pal Mickey. It was only $27.99. When I asked, they said that this is the original version, the new one has Mickey dressed in his tux. Everything else is the same. Give them a call 305-592-5901,if you would like one, or if they're out you can try the Sawgrass store, 954--846-7161. They ship all over the states.

Everything Else is NOT the same.
Pal Mickey version 2.0 has significant additions.
He has sing alongs, more games, and many of the jokes are supposed to be replaced with trivia. He is also supposed to have newer attraction information.

I did NOT choose to buy a new version 2.0 on my recent trip. I used my versions 1.0 and 1.1.
I wasn't visiting long enough to make it worth it (to me) to have the newer Pal just yet. I will eventually get him. Maybe by then they will have version 2.1, and 2.0 will be on clearance somewhere.

Make sure you bring the batteries from home. We had to purchase them at the store by the TTC and it was $15 for 4 AAs! Ouch! After the minor surgery, our Pal Mickey worked great! :earboy2: ::MickeyMo

I LOVE my brand new Pal Mickey! He was a blast last week at all of the parks. He would not shut up near the back lot tours at MGM and everywhere in Epcot he went crazy (especially the World Showcase). The only thing that disappointed me was that out of the eight days that I used him, only once did he tell me something like, "The lines are short at the so-and-so ride" or "Princess so-and-so is over at the castle." I really wish he gave more info like that.

Also, his batteries went dead on my LAST day and they fixed him up with BRAND NEW batteries... FOR FREE! (@ MGM) :cool1:
