warning-don't get out of seat if ride breaks

I do not want to appear dumb, but why do they drain the whole ride on Dudley Do-Right if they find the missing person?? I can understand it if they are afraid the person might be in the water, but if the person is visible do they still drain it all...thanks... :sunny:

Listen most of the time when someone tries to get out of dudley do right they stumble or place their foot in the water. This person getting out will now be stuck in that scene. As a safety procedure they must stop all cars and then drain all of the water so that each person can get out. Then the whole ride has to reboot and they must cycle the cars through before accepting any further passengers. This does seem like a little much, but a theme parks top priority is safety.....well usually.

Last year the MIB ride stopped just as our car was in front of the "too bad you won't remember any of it" part. Lost count of how many flashes went off in our faces......over, and over, and over... That would've been a good picture because all of us had our heads down to block the flashes!

Just to let you know that isn't where the picture is taken on the MIB ride. The picture is actually taken in the ambush area after the alien says "six against one, eh?" Then there is a flash in the top left corner of the wall. This is partly because they need to get a picture of people actually playing the game and holding their alien zappers.

Sometime ago, I was on the bridge by 'The Olive', watching the rafts for Bluto's Bilge Barge (or whatever it's called) go by. One raft went by with about 4 people, unbuckled, running around the raft trying to stay dry. They didn't even hold on to the center railing. I thought to myself, 'This ride's gonna stop', and sure enough, almost immediately the ride stopped and was drained. Once drained, you could see how dangerous it would be for someone to fall overboard, as there is a lot of stuff below the water. They escorted people off all the rafts, and emptied the queue line (which was about 20 minutes worth of people). The offending party was greeted by a host of security and park personnel. Eventually they were escorted out the front gate. However, Universal must not be all that serious about kicking people out of the park for stupid stunts like that, because I saw them later in the day at Universal Studios.

It's possible they got back in after that stunt but usually, they are escorted to Guest Services where their tickets are voided so they can't get in again before they are escorted out. Annual Passes are also deactivated.

Possibly, they just waited awhile and bought new tickets at Univ. Studios and didn't go to IOA again that day so no one was the wiser.

I don't think so. I actually watched them get escorted out. They never were taken to guest services. They asked if they could keep their tickets (I assume they were multi-day multi-park tickets) and were told they could. They even were allowed to get hand-stamps.
After I saw them at USF, I went to guest relations and filed a written complaint, but never received a reply.
Immediately after the incident, I was talking to an IOA employee, and they actually thought that these people were going to be arrested, that's how serious she thought it was!

That is definitely not the way it is supposed to be handled. I'm glad you went to guest services. Even though you didn't get a reply, I am pretty sure that the security officer was told that he handled it wrong. They do follow up on complaints and more than likely they contacted the ride operators to find out who the security person was and all the details.

When I was at grad night at Disney back in '89, a guy I knew lit up a joint and right away the ride stops. I couldn't see what was going on since it was a few cars ahead of me, but he flicked the joint off into the ride somewhere and the worker found it. They took him and his partner off the ride. What was funny is that the ride worker "lost" the joint, so they let him go.

So yep, they are watching you!

Reminds me of my teen years riding POTC at DL in the late 70's :cloud9:

Thanks UF, I know that's not the picture point........just saying it would've been a funny one. My 80 yr old mom did buy our picture from MIB last year because she looked "professional" shooting at aliens!! Love how the pic shows our scores too.

Yeah when I maxed out for the first time I bought the biggest picture because it displays your scores in larger font. I just wish that I didn't have a stupid look on my face. :sad2:

My reaction when reading this was the same as Phamtons. What were you thinking? That cell could fall out of your hands and really hurt someone.

I want to say it was 2 summers ago, a girl was hit standing outside the entrance of Dueling Dragons because someone dropped their cell phone while on the ride. Luckly it just stunned her since it got her in the arm rather than the head. It was quite nice to see the cell phone laying on the ground in pieces.

That's some form of aim. GEEZ. The entrance is YARDS away from the actual coaster.

Sorry. By entrance I meant the one for path by FOTL. I've never gone through the regular line since I always used an Express Pass or FOTL, so in my mind that is the entrance. I believe the coaster goes by you on that path if my memory serves me correctly. If not, someone must have threw their phone while walking on the path and hit her since I do recall it sitting on the ground in pieces.

That scenario may seem unlikely, Notatourist, but it is a fact that every year several patrons are hurt - some seriously - at parks around the country by flying cell phones or cameras. Those hit are usually seated behind the phone-using moron on the ride ...

Doesn't have to be '89. Witnessed a lady today walking towards the entrance of Ripsaw, very openly smoking a joint. We smelled it yards away. Stared at her and then my DH looked at me and said "did you see what I saw?" Don't know what she was thinking. :confused3

Being hit by someone's hat in the past and knowledgeable to Physics, I know. My point was more tongue in cheek, seeing that the location mentioned originally would have been physically impossible, considering that the drop would have had the track going over the patrons heads that were walking up to the coaster.

The path to walk up runs alongside this coaster. Where the original poster was mentioning is NO WHERE NEAR THE COASTER, therefore it's not physically possible for the cellphone to have fallen like that. Now, if you're on the exit path (which this person was in their next post) it's slightly possible.

Thank you.

If the ride vehicle is going around a curve fast and someone lets go of an object, the object may land some distance from the ride track.

Simple example: The coaster makes a right turn as the person loses his cell phone. The phone will travel "straight" forward at the speed of the vehicle at the moment of loss as it drops to the ground. For you math gurus, if the coaster was going 30 mph and it took one second for the phone to hit, the phone would have "flown" forward something like 45 feet, the length of a large bus.

Disney hints:

Someone fires a gun sort of up in the air but far from straight up. The bullet comes down and injures someone. Even though the gun was aimed far from anyone, the bullet still has most of its forward speed which is what causes the bullet wound.
