Warm Chili Cheese Dip

One more version...

One package of Velveeta
Two cans of Chili with no beans - we like Wolf's brand
One can of diced green chilis

Some variations that make it more restaurant style - Add about 1/4 cup each small diced fresh green peppers and fresh poblano chilis - it gives it texture. If you don't like Velveeta you can use American cheese. My favorite Tex-Mex place in Austin swears that it should be Land O Lakes brand, that the others don't taste as good. I found it in the deli section of my Wal-Mart.

1 Can Hormel Chili (no beans)
1 Jar medium or hot salsa
8oz Velveeta
1lb ground meat cooked & drained (we use venison)

Put all in crockpot medium heat to melt, then lower.:thumbsup2

In New Mexico we eat Velveeta melted with chopped up green chile and small diced tomatoes. It's called chile con queso.

We get chile fresh here once a year and freeze it in ziplock bags (and eat it on everything!). You might be able to find canned green chile where the taco shells and salsa are sold at your grocery store.

We make one all the time that is super easy.

Bottom layer: Cream cheese
Middle layer: Hormel chili, no beans
Top layer: Shredded taco cheese.

Just microwave until the cheese is melted and serve!

Super easy & YUMMY!

Good luck!

This is the exact recipe that I use from my friend in NJ (we use HOT Hormel chili, no beans) ....so Chicago, NJ, FL and CT!! :) I've been known to serve it as dinner in a pinch!!

Thank you all so much! Some of these variations sound yummy - I might just have to try more than one of them!;) I hate to sound naive but has anyone ever used the chili with beans? Does anyone know why they are telling you to use the no bean variety? Thanks and Happy Holidays!

Brown 1Lb of hamburger, then add a packet of taco seasoning. After following directions on taco seasoning put mixture in a crockpot. Add a can of hormel beanless chili and a large block of velveeta. Add a jar of your favorite salsa and allow to melt.

Note:Mexican velveeta is really good for any of these recipes.

Mine is very similar:

Brown a pound of hamburger and add taco seasoning according to package directions.
Put into crock pot with one small Mexican Velveeta and 1 large regular Velveeta
Add 1 jar of salsa - your choice on what flavor

If you have ever had the Skillet Queso at Chili's - this tastes very similar!

I have made it with the Chili with beans since that was all we had, but it is way too chunky and its harder to eat this way -- the beans fall off the chips while you're eating it. Its not bad -- just messier!

My DMIL makes this too.. However between the layer of cream cheese and chili she puts a layer of green chilies..

This stuff is the bomb! Im planning on making it and bringing to our family gathering tomorrow night..

OK, confession time.

When I said "WE," I meant "DH."

I'll tell him that his recipe is quite popular across the country. ;)

He's making cream cheese, pickle, ham rollups right now for X-mas Eve tomorrow. Those are good too!

Welllllllll.... I say no beans because of the..."aftereffects" that beans have on some people. :rotfl:

We do the velveeta w/ canned chili & rotel recipe and it's always a huge hit. Wanna make it worse for you? Add a stick of cream cheese (cut it up in cubes w/ the velveeta) and let it melt in the crockpot with everything else. Makes it creamier :)

You could also just stir in some sour cream when it's all melted - same effect.

This sounds great! I think I'll have to try it for New Year's. Do you use one block of cream cheese, and one can of chili?

one block of cream cheese and one can of hormel chili = YUM! hope you enjoyed!!!! don't forget the cheddar cheese on top :) You need nice thick tortilla chips, too ;)

I was looking for something like this to take with us on New Year's Eve! Do you need to keep it warm or just warm it up once? If you do it in a crock pot, how long does it take? Do you leave it in the crock or put in a bowl? :confused3

Sorry, I over think things when I'm taking a new recipe somewhere!

The one that we make we take with us cold and just stick it in their microwave for a few minutes (until the cheese is melted). You can rewarm it later if needed. We put ours in a round, corningware type dish and just put some cling wrap on top.
