War Post- Innocent Iraqis

I SURE hope that all civilian Iraqis had a chance to leave Bahgdad. They are bombing the doodles out of that place right now!

Or, do they all have bomb shelters in places like that?

If there are bomb shelters, I'm sure Hussein isn't giving access to average, innocent citizens.

They are targeting the presidential palace/elite areas. Of course, there could be servants, etc. who get caught. War is terrible but at least we try to avoid killing innocents or using obscene materials like biological/chemical weapons.

Pre-war reports on Bahgdad said there were around 30 air-raid shelters, but that they were reserved for the Baath party members and their families. The good news is:

1) A large percentage of the general citizens of that city seem to have heeded our 48 hour warning and "gotten out of Dodge".

2) All indications so far are that we are hitting military and governmental targets. As one reporter noted today, the electricity is still on in the city and it looks like we aren't hitting infrastructure targets there yet. This should make the lives of the citizens there a little easier.

Rumsfeld was just on describing how the accuracy of these bombs is not even comparable to those used in WWII. Great care is taken in picking out the targets and using the weapons that are as precise as possible. Even down to picking the time of day when innocent lives would be least at risk. Of course, mistakes can be made but we are trying.

Remember, we are not going after the Iraqi people. We are going after Saddam's regime. One that has already killed hundreds of thousands and would not be so caring in selecting U.S. targets to hit.
