War hits home -child's death

As a bereaved mother, I have no claim to how to deal with a child's death - and when things hit home (like a war death), I feel at a loss.

Jarred Black, 26, died Friday - an Army soldier, a Peru, IN native, and a schoolmate to my son. His brother Brandon was also an Army soldier in Iraq.

His parents, Jane and Bill, were there for me when my daughter Kayla died - and I am at a great loss right now knowing that even though I lost a child, I feel empty and at a loss for the words, actions to comfort them.

So if you could just take a minute to say a prayer or have a kind thought for Jane and Coach Black - it could help them get through this horrific loss.

Jarred leaves two toddler sons, and a pregnant wife.

I think it's time we bring our men and women back home.

I took a very, VERY unfavorable position when we went into Iraq -although I am pro military, I was very much against the war. I still am.

I am not privileged to sit in with the President or his advisors, but I did sit beside my daughter as she died, and have sat with bereaved parents of all ages - there is nothing noble or special about losing a child. It hurts and the longing NEVER goes away.

Yes, we learn to deal with the loss, some better than others, some are great at masking their pain/grief or working for causes that bandaid the loss - but there will always be children dying and parents grieving.

Thank you all for your kind words and especially your prayers/thoughts for Coach, Jane, Brandon, the widow and two surviving sons. I can deal with my feelings but for these survivors, only God can be their comfort now.
