Something snapped in my brain and I'm considering adding 200 pts. to our current 160 BLT points. This would allow us to stay in a 2 BR BLT during peak season every year. We just became DVC owners last month. Please tell me I'm not crazy. Please tell me 360 pts is "normal".

And, if you've done other things, aside from WDW trips, with your membership, what did you do? How was it?

Thanks!

DH and I became DVC members in Feb 2009 and have added on twice. We have a total of 360 pts. Our initial contract of 160 at AKV, 100 pt add on AKV in May 2009, and 100 pt add on at VGC June 2010. Get what works for your family :thumbsup2 Haven't used points for anything other than WDW and DL so nothing to report there.

I know what you mean. We just became members this spring with 200 SSR points and I still keep looking at resale contracts. But just a small one at BWV or BCV for F&W. DH says no way until we see how we use our points for a few years. I know he's right, but it's so fun looking!:goodvibes200 points is a lot more and a big financial commitment - not just the initial cost, but even more importantly the dues. We waited to buy in for 5 years and are cautious by nature, so I would hold out a little while longer to make sure I really needed them. I'm sure I'm probably in the minority here - you would have a lot of fun with those 360 BLT pts!:cool1:

Personally, I think you should go into borrow-debt first, then add-on if you need more points for a desired trip. In other words, buy the points when you actually need to use them.

Could you borrow points from next year to meet your needs? Then you wouldn't need to buy points until your next trip.

You're not crazy! You just neglected to read the fine print on your DVC contract that says with your DVC membership you get complimentary cases of terminal Disneyitis - I'll have it till I die, obsessive Dis planner disorder - it NEVER stops, and addonitis - once you have some points the urge is ALWAYS there to add more. These are are all extra bonuses the guides forget to mention! We have not used our points for anything else but trips to WDW as we never tire of going there (see above reference regarding Disneyitis). :cool1: These are all afflictions from which I hope I NEVER recover! Welcome to the wonderful world of DVC membership. I hope you never recover either! :goodvibes Also, don't let any of your family, friends, or associates try to convince you that you have lost your mind just because you are now Disney obsessed!!! :rotfl: You now have a whole new family of people who feel just like you do - feel free to gather strength and support from the rest of us!! Again, Welcome Home!

Ann

What he said. I ran the math on our 200 points because I wanted to start staying in 2brs instead of 1brs and established that I could do so by borrowing for the next five trips and wouldn't need more points until 2015. By then, things may have changed for our family so I am holding out and putting the cash in savings. (Mind you, we stay in low season so the points go a lot further.)

Also, I would recommend adding a little at a time (buying 50 or so at a time, whatever gets the incentive at the time/you can find on the resale market). Smaller contracts are easier to sell resale and are easier to swallow financially in the short term.

I would not recommend anyone doing an addon to DVC until at least a year after being owners and taking at the min. at least one trip.

Unless you have expendable cash that is alot of extra maintenance dues to carry year after year.

I definitely would not recommend it unless you are paying cash.

You may feel you want them now, but are you going to want or even need them 20 years from now.

If you are considering adding on in order to use the points to take trips outside of Disney, I would never recommend that. You can get much better deals paying cash than trading out of Disney.

Funny post - the bug has bit me too! I have the sudden desire to add 60 pts. to make 360 and the first two posts revolved around 360 pts. Maybe this is a sign:rotfl2: We've had 300 points for about 7 years now - our first contract in 2001 was 225, then added 50, then added 25. Right now I have 0 points available until Feb. 2012 due to hosting a large family gathering this year and using 3 years worth of points! Once I got home, I just couldn't stand the idea of not having a trip planned - and can't even plan one for a long time. I started looking into renting; buying resale and even buying straight from Disney. It was an uncontrollable urge. But, I didn't act on it and now I'm better. Don't get me wrong - I still want more points, but it's not consuming my mind at all time. I would probably agree with previous posters to get a few trips under your belt before adding on. My kids are now 17, 14, & 10 and the two older kids are fussing about too many trips to Disney and asking for us to not go as often. Once DD17 begins college, she'll either not be traveling with us or we'll only be able to go during summer break. It won't be long until a 1BR will be all we need and thus less points. So, I'm trying to fight the urge.

We have owned for a month and just added on 75 points to come to 275 at VGC. We really wanted to stay in a one bedroom on our trips and also have enough for a week at Aulani in a one bedroom. I don't want to borrow every year...we had the cash now so we bought now and got our use year and full 2009 points before sell out. VGC requires a lot of points IMO.....I believe we now have plenty and should we choose to bank...will have enough to do two trips or bring others with us and book a two bedroom.

Ummmm.....
My name is Adminjedi and I am addicted to DVC!

We have added 8 times since our initial 280 pt contract in 2006!!!!! And STILL we want more!!!:rotfl:
All trips have been DW, except one recent trip to DL. 1 time a year with all our kids (and sometimes their friends) and once or twice a year just the two of us.

I am also a member of this group. We purchased BLT direct in April, added on via resale at BWV in May, negotiated three small BWV contracts in June to give as graduation gifts and to my parents (two have passed ROFR... waiting for results of the third), and then added on at Aulani on opening day for sales there. We've only purchased at the places we want to stay, and have waited for opportunities that fit our budget at those resorts. I think that add-onitis is done for a while... until DVC opens a resort at National Harbor! ;-)

OP - do it. You will get nothing but support from DVC obsessors. ;)

Heck I have 400 and am jonesing for more, so forgive me for jacking the thread a moment but if i find a suitable low pt 50 contract SSR listed at $75 pp, what would a fair offer be? Anyone know what the addl dues would run me here? I would be a lot happier with $68, should I offer and see what happends? Am I overthinking this? You can be honest!

I would love to add on at the GCV. :cloud9: Right now we have 3 pending bar/bat mitzvahs over the next 5 years and those will be spendy so there won't be any adding on for a while.

I bought into DVC In 2005 with my best friend for 200 points (SSR). That means 100 points each, each year. And usually we take turns and/or small trips and have never run into a problem! I love having 200 points! And maybe when we have children that will change but we will see! For right now its perfect for friends and DH's and family.

Well i am in the 360 point club. We bought 200 pts at AKV and then 160 at BLT. We bought in 2008 and have taken 4 trips and have one scheduled for this October. I already want to add points at BCV but luckily my budget is keeping me from adding on.

I only have 155 points.... but would really love to add on 75 at VGC before it sells out!

Heck I have 400 and am jonesing for more,

I read addonitis and started Post-ADR Anxiety Disorder, but not seen jonesing for DVC points - good one;).

We did a contract at SSR in 2008 and added there this year. Now, we have enought points for 2 studio trips a year. I want to buy at BLT. I enjoy SSR - relaxed, boat ride to DTD, golf course, but wanted to buy near MK as well. Perhaps to have enough points for a 1 bedroom at each resort. We are going to WL in the fall, but BLT is even closer than that and the contract end date is much further out. I am waiting for 2 things - a June resale contract and the money to do so.

We are just shy of 1000 pts (yes, that is killing us!!), but we have what we need for a 2wk 2br villa with our 5 kids (and their significant others or another family joining us in a studio), and 2 8-14 day trips just the two of us per year. We have calculated that as our kids marry and have kids, we need to add 300 pts.

I always want more points. There are never enough! :confused3 I keep looking and wondering and planning. Aaaahhh!!! Adonitis is really, really bad
