Over the years, Lauri and I have framed some of our pins. Not a lot, though -- a set here, a set there. We keep meaning to do more but never get around to it.
One set I have been wanting to frame are my patriotic pins. Even before the tragic events a year ago, I quietly collected pins with a patriotic and Americana theme. Heck, the first Holy Grail Lauri and I had was #1106 of the individually numbered 2000 WDW Fife and Drum pin (our wedding anniversary, November 6).
I had ideas over the years of how to do the patriotic pins that I considered and rejected. A few months ago, an idea came to my mind of how I wanted to do it.
And with tomorrow being the first anniversary of 9/11, I decided to share this pin set with everyone, in honor of all the men and women who have served and sacrificed for our country over the years --
The second pin from the left on the top is the aforementioned Fife and Drum pin. The American flag in the display has special meaning for me, though.
My father, Donald H. Davis, served 30 years in the US Army and saw combat in Korea and Vietnam. He passed away January 28, 1991. The flag displayed in the frame is from a flower arrangement from his funeral. There were two flags in the arrangement and I kept both of them, never really knowing what to do with them. After 9/11 last year I got them out and Lauri and I displayed them in our cars. I've put one away for safe-keeping and decided to incorporate the other into this display.
