Here is couple of other ideas...
If you keep going south on Old Lake Wilson past MDunes and Indian Ridge you will come upon Reunion. This billion dollar developement is one of the top new golf communities in the world. It is really something to just drive by. There are 3 courses all signature form Watson, Palmer and Nicklaus.
Not sure if anyone can play them in the summer. In the winter they are limited to members and guests at the resort. You could tell them you are interested in a tour and ready to drop over a million for 4 bedroom home or 1/2 million for condo and they might let you play...I would call the club house and see if they have a summer special for non owners and guests...It is absolutely stunning golf.
If you go to past Reunion and turn right at the stop light it will be about 2 miles to Champions Gate. This is the David Ledbetter Academy...You just might see Michelle Wie or one of famous students on the practice tee.
CGate will definately have summer rates...2 courses, the National and the International...They will HOT as they are flat and few trees...I have heard the National is the better and little easier.
Not sure how far you want to drive or if you want to make it a full fun day and see a neat area while he golfs, one of our favorite golf courses is called Deer Island. It is about an hour drive north up by Mt. Dora. Mt. Dora is quaint little tourist town with lots of shops, small restaurants and a beautiful view of Lake Dora.
The golf course is on a island that was built to be a private club with very high end homes...well, that did not go so well because it was such a long drive to the grocery store so they are now public with more modest homes going in...This a a great Florida course with white sand, lots of water, and surrounded by Lake Dora. Lots and lots of big gators sitting out sunning and a really nice layout. Here is the website.

The drive takes you through horse country that few people visiting Florida get to see...
Finally, best deal could well be Southern Dunes in Haines City...
http://southerndunes.com/ This is a great links type layout with huge greens, great holes, and always in great shape.
Easy drive down Hwy 27 10 miles to Haines City...turn just as you hit town at the Wal Mart and big Southern Dunes sign. From Winsor Hills take the new I-429 to I-4 to 27 south...
From WHills turn Right...go past Mdunes and Indian Ridge and look for Sinclaiir Ave..turn right about a mile and hop on 429 south...have 25 cents ready....take the short trip to I-4 and then the short trip to 27 south..
Be sure and stop at one of our favorite non Disney restaurants, the PUB just a mile south of I-4 on 27 on the right side....great Fish and Chips, Shepherds Pie, and other British fare plus good American choices....
Those are places that would match Celebration and Orange County if he want a new experience....
Enjoy...Ted
